00:00Roads washed away, bridges collapsed and streets engulfed in water.
00:06These are the worst floods ever recorded in Brazil's southern province of Rio Grande
00:10do Sul.
00:11In this small town, entire homes were gutted out.
00:14I need a lot of help.
00:17We have nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat.
00:19We have nothing.
00:21Triggered by torrential rains in the south of the country, the floods have killed dozens
00:25of people, left many more missing and displaced over 70,000.
00:31My father-in-law is still missing and there are other people we know who have not yet
00:34been rescued.
00:36I almost drowned.
00:38The guy who saw me pulled me into the boat because I couldn't resist the current.
00:42Brazil's federal government has sent aircrafts, boats and more than 600 soldiers to boost
00:47rescue efforts and deliver much-needed aid.
00:50So far, roughly a third of displaced people have been brought to shelters set up in public
00:55facilities.
00:56We demolished the canteen and the community hall to make housing.
01:00This house was transformed to meet the needs of those displaced by flooding and we did
01:05it all in about three hours.
01:08Located between polar and tropical atmospheres, the state experiences extreme weather events,
01:13made more intense due to climate change and the El Nino phenomenon.
01:17Five days in, the rainfall shows no sign of a spike.
