The new Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA) is running smoothly, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister told reporters on Friday (May 3) that the operations and enforcement carried out by MCBA will be further strengthened through the tabling of a Bill at Parliament for the setting up of this new agency in July.
Saifuddin added that when the Bill was passed, MCBA would become a large enforcement agency and play an important role in the country with the goal to have one single agency manage the borders.

00:00I'm sorry, I have a question about the PM's announcement about the border agency.
00:06Where is the agency's headquarters?
00:09First, the idea of establishing a single-border agency is not new.
00:14It started back in 2019.
00:17At that time, I was a member of the administration.
00:20But I didn't live in the country.
00:23I was a merchant at that time.
00:25I took care of the price of onions, onions, vegetables.
00:30It started from there.
00:32Under the state constitution, a team was established.
00:37We called it the Nucleus team.
00:39To make all the preparations.
00:43And when the government was formed in November 2022,
00:49I saw that after a long time,
00:52all the information needed was enough.
00:55So, the Prime Minister announced through the budget.
00:59Then, I handed over the Prime Minister's paper.
01:02So, where is the source of power?
01:04The Prime Minister's paper that has been accepted by the Cabinet.
01:09So, the source of power is the Cabinet's decision.
01:12Okay.
01:13On the exact date,
01:17I handed it over to the PM in April.
01:22April.
01:23Okay.
01:24That means,
01:26I have to pass the state constitution.
01:30Because it will become a new agency.
01:33So, my plan is,
01:35if all the process of making the constitution is completed,
01:40including approved by the AGC,
01:43then I will propose to pass it in the July session.
01:49In the July session.
01:51That's in terms of implementing the state constitution.
01:53But in terms of parameters and scope,
01:56all aspects of the border control,
01:58the first is to facilitate people's mobility.
02:02When people come in, tourists come,
02:05and when people leave,
02:07the second is to improve the delivery system.
02:11So, it can't deal with dozens of agencies
02:14who are on duty at the border.
02:16The third is to address the issue of integrity.
02:22And the fourth is to ensure the achievement
02:27when the country's revenue increases.
02:30Okay.
02:31That's why MCBA will become a new agency
02:35whose role is very big and important.
02:38But when we deal with the border,
02:41we only deal with one,
02:44compared to now, we deal with 20 or 24 or 25.
02:48So, in terms of governance, it becomes easier.
02:51Thank you.
