00:00Thank you Mr. Chair. I want to go back to the National Security Supplemental. When President Biden gave his remarks after he signed the bill, he mentioned that the bill didn't have border security and that he was going to continue to fight for that border security proposal that the Senate, that came out of the Senate.
00:16Are House Democrats interested in losing political capital to try to get that bill, start the debate on that bill again, or do you think that that's an inefficient use of time?
00:28We're interested in solving problems guided by our values that meet the needs that the American public have.
00:36And clearly there are some concerns at the southern border. We acknowledge that. We address that.
00:43We want order at the southern border. We want a process to work.
00:48And so to the extent that there are conversations, we are happy to engage.
00:52But what I want to see right now out of House Republicans and honestly, Senate Republicans, is do they have a willingness to engage here or will they just, you know, again, bow at the altar of Donald Trump and do his bidding?
01:08He has said he wants this as a campaign issue. He does not want a legislative solution.
01:13As you have seen with the National Security Supplemental, as well as government funding, as well as, you know, everything that we have been able to accomplish over the last year, it takes bipartisan consensus to do anything around here.
01:26And so we are waiting for Republicans to indicate that they want to be partners to address this in a meaningful way.
01:36If they have a willingness to do that, we will, because it will meet the needs that the American public has consistent with our values.
01:44If they don't, would you support the administration putting forward an executive action to use, you know, whatever President Biden has to kind of curb the issue at the border?
01:55I've said before, executive action is not a way to solve this alone. These are issues that Congress should deal with.
02:02I said that under a prior administration. I would continue to say that.
02:06But we stand willing to work with the administration, as well as with our colleagues across the aisle, if there are meaningful reforms that can be done legislatively or administratively.
