00:00The local government of Muntinlupa announced that face-to-face classes in the city will be suspended from Wednesday to Friday due to the hot weather.
00:10The Department of Education also gave President Bombo Marcos a more aggressive recommendation to bring back the school year.
00:18Witness, Dano Tingcunco.
00:21We can still see here that in both stations, in Metro Manila, we can still see that during the month of May, their heat index values are higher.
00:32That is what Pagasa said when the Senate heard that the entrance to the school should be back in June.
00:38If they will do that, the hot weather will be avoided every April and May.
00:44However, that will be due to the rain.
00:46Even though it will only last for a few days, it will be very strong.
00:49The Department of Health said that the rain will be avoided.
00:53But the heat is felt everywhere.
00:56But it seems that there is no need to worry because yesterday, the DepEd said that they submitted to the President a more aggressive return to the previous school year
01:05because he has the power to make that decision.
01:08In the new plan, the entrance of students will be reduced by 15 days.
01:12This can be done by Saturday classes.
01:15This is a result of a previous survey where the answers were not really hot.
01:21The position taken by the Department of Education and the gradual reversion to the April-May school break was based on the following.
01:28Number one, it is the preference of majority of the general public as reflected in the surveys conducted on the matter.
01:35And second, the significant economic impact of summer breaks as a tourism drive for local destinations in the country.
01:42Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the decision of gradual revert to April-May school break was not brought about by climate or weather considerations.
01:53While that is not yet there, school administrators have the power to suspend classes or shift to alternative delivery.
02:00That is why they asked for a more detailed heat index from Pagasa.
02:04May I suggest to Pagasa to come up with a location specific, if possible, with technology
02:11so that our principals and LGUs will be guided on what actions they will take.
02:17In order for us to estimate the values of temperature for a particular location in the absence of a sensor, for instance.
