Former Clippers J.J. Redick and Matt Barnes discussed LA's 2015 collapse to the Houston Rockets.
Transcript
00:00 In the wake of the LA Clippers' historic collapse at Denver Nuggets, the second round of this year's NBA playoffs,
00:05 there's been a lot of talk among fans about how similar it felt to the Clippers' 2015 collapse at the Houston Rockets.
00:10 Not only did both teams blow 3-1 advantage after coming one win shy of the franchise's first ever West Carolina Finals appearance,
00:16 but both were pushed by Doc Rivers, who recently signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after his outstanding in the franchise last week.
00:21 When former Clippers guard JJ Redick joined Matt Barnes and Steven Jackson on the All the Smoke earlier this week,
00:27 the group broke down what it felt like to live out the meltdown to a negative team, saying,
00:31 "We won that free fall versus Houston. You could feel it happening," Redick said.
00:35 "That game, how many times have you thought about the fourth quarter of that game? Just the different plays that happened.
00:40 Josh Smith hitting three threes, Corey Bird hit a couple threes. I remember that game seven. I was so tired.
00:45 I think we underestimate how much that San Antonio series took out of us."
00:49 Redick also said he felt like this team would lose its mental toughness at times,
00:53 which suddenly seemed to be an issue for this year's squad as well.
00:56 There were multiple times during LA Series nuggets the team seemed defeated, even before their elimination.
01:01 After blowing double-digit leads in games five, six, and seven, the Clippers didn't believe they knew how to recover as a group.
01:06 Instead, the offense got ISO heavy, with the ball ending up in either Paul George or Kawhi Leonard's hands on almost every possession.
01:12 While that's not a bad thing, they were taking a lot of the shots as well.
01:15 And while that's not a bad thing, there was just no movement or flow to the offense. It just seemed very disjointed.
01:21 And Denver didn't have Corey Brewer or Josh Smith, but it did have Michael Porter Jr. and Paul Millsap.
01:26 Plot the charge for Denver looked like all hope was lost.
01:29 As awful as the 2015 series was, one could easily argue that this season's collapse was much worse.
01:35 LA should have dominated the Nuggets. The Clippers were favored to win the NBA title almost all year long,
01:40 but instead it ended in very familiar fashion.
