00:00Phillips first interception yesterday, I didn't have a chance.
00:04It wasn't a good one.
00:05It was not a good throw.
00:06Is that just a bad decision?
00:07He kind of just floated the ball.
00:08I don't know what he maybe saw there.
00:11He never saw the safety in the middle of the field, you know, and it happens sometimes,
00:15but he would love to have that throw back, I'm sure.
00:20And then the one, the second one to Mike on the sideline, is that just an underthrown
00:25ball there?
00:26You know, it was a situation where we're trying to push the ball down the field, and we probably
00:32forced it a little bit there.
00:33What do you guys talk about, you and Phillip, I'm assuming you guys go over these.
00:39When you see that, what do you say to him about trying to correct it?
00:43Well, I mean, it's really obvious, you know, you don't want the turnover and, you know,
00:47but you try to ask, what did you see?
00:50You know, how can we, because you want to know how you can help a player, you know,
00:54that feedback determines, you know, maybe the plays that you call for the rest of the
00:58game or whatever, but, you know, that's all you can do at that time is just, you know,
01:04tell me what you saw.
01:05So is this something where you just wait until the end of the season and you put a reel together?
01:10Because a lot of them have been similar in terms of the turnovers that Phillip has, in
01:14terms of the interceptions.
01:15Sure.
01:16Do you try to correct it over the season?
01:18We make those corrections, yeah, we do at the end of the season, but we try to do that
01:21during the season because we don't want the same thing from week to week.
01:25This is, this year has been worse than other years, I can tell you that, but, and it's
01:30a lot of different reasons.
01:31Sometimes it's a receiver may have, may fall down, sometimes there's pressure on the quarterback,
01:35but I mean, he knows that he can't turn the ball over and that was, you know, that was
01:40just a bad throw, the first one.
01:42The ones at the end of the game, you know, we put them in some situations to try to push
01:45the ball down the field into some tight coverages that we never would have done that under different
01:51circumstances, but that first one was, you know, he would like to have that one back.
01:55Phillip has said that some turnovers are worse than others, he kind of devalues those at
02:01the end of the game because you got a couple touchdowns back and maybe they're not as impactful
02:07as the ones that are happening earlier.
02:09Sure.
02:10What's your take on that?
02:11I don't devalue any turnover, to be honest with you, but I understand what he's saying.
02:16You know, at the end of the game, when you're trying to push the ball down the field, the
02:20checkdowns just won't cut it anymore, then we put you in some situations where you may
02:26throw an interception or two.
02:28That happens.
02:29It happens on every team.
02:30Is that a mentality, like a switch that you can turn on and off for him?
02:34He can take more risks in certain situations?
02:36Well, I mean, I believe he was fourth in turnovers my first year here and last year he was like
02:40tenth.
02:41He's been pretty good in that area.
02:43So this year, he's just not as good.
02:46Why do you feel like that mentality has resurfaced?
02:48Because like you said, when he took over in 2017, it looked like he turned a corner
02:51as far as protecting the football.
02:52Why do you feel like that has resurfaced, that part of his game has resurfaced?
02:55Well, I think some of it may have not having his tackles, his right and left tackle at
03:00different times.
03:02That can help speed the game up on a quarterback, any quarterback.
03:06And some of it is just you got to be more careful with the football, just period.
03:09Yeah, I mean, I'm not trying to make any excuses for him and he wouldn't want me to make any
03:14excuses for him, but we just have to do a better job to encourage football.
