00:00Looking back at the season, how would you rate your season overall?
00:05It wasn't a good season for me.
00:10My expectations, 600 yards,
00:14no touchdowns, cool, but it's not what I was aiming towards.
00:20So this season, it feels short, right?
00:23It feels like I just started, and now it's over and back to training.
00:27So it sucks, but next year, hopefully, I get a full year to play.
00:32With the season behind you now, does focus now shift to what's gonna happen
00:38with you, your contract, where you might be?
00:40Yeah, that's where we are now, it's just a waiting game.
00:43Let's see, just sit and wait, see if I'm gonna hit the market or
00:50see if they're gonna rework something out.
00:52We have so many jobs to try to re-sign.
00:56I kinda hate to be the guys upstairs, it's a lot of guys,
01:01a lot of key guys in this, that make the identity of this football team.
01:06Their contracts are up, and we all waiting.
01:12All of us in the locker room are kinda waiting to see what's gonna go on.
01:16I know we all wanna be here, but ideally, I don't know if we'll all be here, so.
01:22Does your strategy change from coming into this season to where it is now,
01:27this offseason, does this change?
01:29I know you said last week you wanted to be here, but as far as the contract wise,
01:33does it change, your strategy change with the negotiations?
01:37I don't know, I don't know, honestly, I don't even know what to say.
01:46I'm just, I hit up my agent still, and they said that,
01:51obviously, they weren't gonna say anything until the season was over.
01:55And probably in a couple weeks, we'll probably hear something.
01:59I don't know yet, but hopefully, we figure something out, so
02:04we don't have to go through all this, I can just show up and be ready to go.
02:09So we'll figure it out, but I'm gonna check, as far as my training and
02:12everything, start a little earlier this year, like I did last year.
02:17And just get back rolling, and just stay ready.
02:19Are you going back down to Florida with the group down there, training it?
02:22Yeah, I'm gonna stay out here for a little bit, just to wait to see what's going on.
02:28And then I'll just try to train out here, probably go,
02:31they go and train with Chad Durkin a little bit.
02:35And then once I figure things out, or towards probably,
02:39towards February, towards Super Bowl, I'll probably head back down to Florida.
02:43Melvin, do you wanna continue being an LA Charger?
02:46Yeah, of course, they dragged me in and changed my life.
02:49They took a bet on me, took a chance on me,
02:55when 30 other teams could have and passed me up.
02:58So they're like your first love, so to speak.
03:04So yeah, I wanna be here, man.
03:06I got a great relationship with everybody around here.
03:09I love everyone from in here to the people, the staff in the training room,
03:14to the equipment guys.
03:16I got a relationship with everybody around here, not just the guys in here.
03:19So hopefully, we can work it out.
03:21But like I know, like y'all know, and like everybody else knows, it's a business.
03:25And we just gotta figure out where things go.
03:27I'm just really just sitting back, man.
03:29I'm just open eyed to this whole thing, and I'm a little nervous.
03:34As everybody is, that contract is up, but hopefully it works out for the best.
03:39Looking back at your time as a Charger rookie year,
03:40you start off zero touchdowns, struggling.
03:43And now it's like you average basically ten touchdowns a year.
03:45How do you kind of see your time as a Charger?
03:49It was cool, I think.
03:51Injuries kind of took back what could be a great career thus far.
03:56Great years kind of got taken from me towards the end of the year.
04:03Going 997 with like three or four games left.
04:07And having that stellar season last year and it being taken away and
04:12trying to come back with two braces.
04:15So it's been some, it could have been a lot better.
04:18But I'm not hanging my head down towards what I've done thus far.
04:23But recognizing how tight this running back's room is, what was it like for
04:26you personally to see the year that Austin was in, and
04:29to see your guy Derrick being in the first alternate, the pro bowl, and
04:32having a year he had to- It was dope, man.
04:34It was dope.
04:35Austin almost getting 1,000 yards.
04:36I know he's sick about that.
04:38I think he had 994, he said.
04:40I was like, I know you're paying.
04:41And I had 997 rushing, so I know exactly how you feel.
04:44But he had a stellar year, man, 10 plus touchdowns, super happy for him.
04:50So I'm excited, man, he's grown every year.
04:53Justin has grown, and Watt got his first touchdown.
04:58So I was happy about that, that I got to be here while he had that.
05:00So it's been a crazy year, man.
05:03We've all been improving, getting better, and we only gonna get better from here.
05:08What do you anticipate the market's gonna be like for any of you?
05:16I don't know, I don't know, I really don't know.
05:19People want to look at Bill.
05:24Coordinator, I've just seen that video with his coach.
05:27It don't even sound like he won him over there, and he's on a tough team.
05:33It's hard, and Todd had a decent year,
05:37not the year that he's usually having, and David Johnson.
05:41Zeke's having a good year, I think.
05:44But I don't know, I don't really know what the market's gonna be.
05:47It's a lot of backs, a lot of good backs that are up.
05:51Hopefully, I know Alvin Kamara and them guys, probably contracts probably aren't up.
05:56But hopefully they can be there, it's their third year going into their fourth,
06:01so they can restructure or something.
06:04But I don't know, I have no idea.
06:08But it's cool, though, I'm not asking to be the top player.
06:12I wouldn't mind it, you know what I mean?
06:14But it is what it is.
