NBA players have more on their plate than ever before, and Lou Williams gave us a hint of what it's like.
Transcript
00:00A week ago, the NBA almost came to a complete shutdown as players boycotted the shooting
00:06of Jacob Blake.
00:08It resulted in a very intense and emotional players-only meeting where players found themselves
00:14discussing all different types of social issues, and Lou Williams gave us a little bit of a
00:18sneak peek at what it was like, and he simply said it was an overwhelming time.
00:23He said, we're expected to entertain you guys, save the world, speak up on issues that are
00:27very personal, that hits home for us, we're overwhelmed.
00:31And when you think about it, NBA players have more to deal with right now than they've ever
00:35dealt with in their entire lives.
00:37No one is looking at what baseball players are doing, no one is looking at what hockey
00:42players are doing, football players, but everyone is looking at what NBA players are doing.
00:47And granted, that's the responsibility they put on themselves when they decided to no
00:51longer shut up and dribble, but it's still unfair at the same time to demand that much
00:56out of them.
00:57He said, you know, people are telling us to play, not play.
01:01He said, you know, it's not play, put your career in jeopardy, put your futures on hold,
01:05how you make a livelihood.
01:06A lot of people are quick to say, why don't you guys stop playing and just protest?
01:11And those same people are going to work the next day.
01:13And when you put it in that perspective, it makes a lot of sense in terms of what they're
01:17going through.
