00:00More than 100 Chinese militia vessels were monitored in the West Philippine Sea.
00:08When will the Balikatan Exercises be held?
00:12Ian Cruz is on the scene.
00:18At the start of the Balikatan Exercises yesterday,
00:20the Philippine Navy monitored 110 Chinese militia vessels in the West Philippine Sea.
00:28That's more than double the number of Chinese militia vessels that were monitored in the West Philippine Sea last week.
00:33And the number of Chinese militia vessels that were monitored in the West Philippine Sea last week is far from its average number in the past few months.
00:37We have been monitoring their presence for the past two months since I became the PNS Boxer of the West Philippine Sea.
00:43And like what I said, it's a fairly constant number.
00:46From a low of 33 to a high of 69 on a weekly basis.
00:49This upsurge is out of the normal.
00:53The Chinese Coast Guard and People's Liberation Army Navy have also monitored 11 Chinese militia vessels in the West Philippine Sea.
01:00As the rotation and resupply missions in the West Philippine Sea intensified,
01:04the Chinese Coast Guard and the Chinese militia vessels helped to block the Philippine ships heading for Ayungin Shoal.
01:12Although they were not alarmed, the Philippine Navy did not want to think that the increase of Chinese vessels was due to the Balikatan Exercises.
01:22Where the group sail of the Philippine ships America and France is expected to be.
01:28Before the Balikatan Exercises started, several maritime vessels were spotted near the mainland of Palawan.
01:35Westcom and Naval Forces West were monitoring them.
01:38And Westcom dispatched a Coast Guard vessel to intercept them.
01:42However, when the Coast Guard vessel got to their track, both ships were gone.
01:47Meanwhile, a Chinese newspaper published a plan to sink a ship as part of the Balikatan Exercises exercise in the northern part of Ilocos.
01:57This is the non-active Philippine Navy ship BRT Lake Caliraya.
02:02The allegation of the statement is that the ship is Chinese made.
02:17The vessel has been used in the Philippines for a long, long time.
02:23So any attachment, if ever there is any, doesn't matter at all.
02:30It's an old Navy vessel which we decommissioned.
02:33And just like in any sinking exercise around the world, they use old vessels as the target of the exercise.
02:46And the same thing we are doing with Lake Caliraya.
02:50For GMA Integrated News, Ian Cruz, Nakatuto, 24 Horas.
