00:00 People often overlook the existence of vending machines until their stomachs growl and their
00:06 throats dry up.
00:07 But there is one particular vending machine at University Technology Mara's Kelantan
00:11 Brunch that students have taken a liking to.
00:13 Little do they know, their overwhelming support has helped transform the life of a B40 family
00:18 for the better.
00:19 The housewife makes between RM13,000 to RM21,000 a month through the vending machine, depending
00:35 on whether the students are on break.
00:37 After deducting the cost of raw materials, she is still able to make a profit of at least
00:41 RM5,000 a month, a princely sum compared to the RM500 she used to earn from selling kueh.
00:47 Anasikin is one of the many participants of the People's Income Initiative, a short
00:50 and medium-term intervention measure that the government created to eradicate hardcore
00:54 poverty.
00:55 There are three pilot initiatives, the Farming Entrepreneur, INTAN, Services Operator, IXAN
01:00 and Food Entrepreneur, INSAN.
01:03 Since joining the INSAN initiative in October, the mother of four whose husband works as
01:07 a bus driver has been working tirelessly to make sure the vending machine never runs out
01:11 of food.
01:12 One Asikin also chooses to fix the price of her meals to under RM10, since her clientele
01:29 is mostly students.
01:30 Right across the east coast at Penang UITM, Amin Afifi's monthly profit has increased
01:53 to RM5,000, five times more than his previous income when he operated an online bakery with
01:59 his wife.
02:25 He called for more assistants to help young entrepreneurs like him, hoping to venture
02:29 further into the food and beverage industry.
02:53 Although one Asikin and Amin are strangers to one another, they are united in their goal
02:57 of providing the best for their families.
03:00 The IPR initiative has given them a lifeline by giving them a platform to do business while
03:04 the rental and electricity costs of the vending machine are covered.
03:08 Now it is up to them to chart their own success.
