00:02 - All right, Joe, this next Met is something
00:07 that the Mets need, a pitcher.
00:08 You talked him up last time out.
00:10 You can make jokes about his name,
00:12 but right now it looks like Jose Butto
00:13 is going to be an ad.
00:14 His availability, my gosh, 31% rostered.
00:18 So a seven out of 10 leagues is available?
00:20 - Seven out of 10 times, it works all the time.
00:24 Yeah, Jose Butto is still available
00:27 and a lot of people were concerned.
00:29 Well, even after that good start that he had last weekend
00:31 against Kansas City, he's got the Dodgers this week
00:34 and he had the Dodgers yesterday.
00:35 And guess what?
00:36 He still came out relatively unscathed.
00:39 So to me, if you can survive a start,
00:42 I know he didn't get out of the fifth inning,
00:43 but still after some trouble, he got out of it
00:45 and still gave you some strikeouts.
00:47 If you can get past the gauntlet
00:48 that is the Dodgers top of the order,
00:51 then you're okay in my book.
00:52 But let's look at the bigger picture for Jose Butto,
00:54 which is the Mets need starting pitcher.
00:56 Cody Senga is still not back yet.
00:58 You look at Butto's stats so far for three starts,
01:00 a 165 VRA, 16 innings, 21 strikeouts, a 1.04 whip.
01:05 Matt, those are tremendous numbers.
01:07 This was a pitcher that I watched personally
01:08 in spring training work.
01:10 And I was impressed every time.
01:12 He worked fast, he attacked the strike zone,
01:15 throws strikes, he's a bigger presence kid.
01:18 He's 6'1", 200 pounds.
01:19 He's not like a slight guy.
01:21 This is the kind of pitcher that really has made
01:23 a huge leap year over year.
01:24 We talked about Christian Scott a few weeks ago
01:26 on the show, right?
01:27 In the down on the farm segment.
01:28 Between Butto and Scott, there's a couple pitchers now
01:30 in this New York Mets system that have
01:32 kind of came out of nowhere,
01:33 that all of a sudden you're very excited about.
01:36 And there's nothing really keeping these guys
01:39 out of this rotation.
01:41 Jose Quintana has a decent sized contract.
01:43 Senga, you hope at some point is gonna be back.
01:46 After that, everything's up for grabs.
01:48 Mania is a pitcher that has worked in the bullpen before
01:51 with success, even just as recently as last year.
01:53 So you can move Mania to the bullpen.
01:55 You can move Adrian Hauser to the bullpen.
01:57 Those guys are just band-aids.
01:59 Those guys are not permanent solutions.
02:01 But Jose Butto, Christian Scott,
02:04 these guys are long-term solutions.
02:06 And the Mets organization would be doing a disservice
02:08 to the current roster and the fan base
02:11 if they don't let these guys pitch
02:13 and Christian Scott sooner than later.
02:15 Because Butto and Scott are both two guys
02:17 that right now you can start to get some major beginnings.
02:19 Next year, if you wanna go chase some big free agents,
02:22 you're getting Ronnie Mauricio back.
02:24 All these kids that you have in the system
02:25 are gonna be another year older.
02:27 All of a sudden, the Mets are starting to look
02:28 like a team with a very bright future.
02:30 But Butto is a guy that, again, available in 70% of leagues.
02:35 Maybe he gets sent back down at some point.
02:37 I don't see it.
02:38 I think Butto's gonna stick in this rotation
02:40 for the duration because so far,
02:42 he has not shown you any reason
02:43 why he does not belong there.
