00:26 In today's segment, we will be talking about Coimbatore and its transformation into an ideological battleground.
00:32 Dating back to the 1980s, the communal tensions between the Hindus and Muslims
00:37 heightened with the bomb blasts of 1998 in Coimbatore.
00:41 ALUMMA, the radical Islamic organization, allegedly carried out these blasts.
00:47 It was also Coimbatore where Prime Minister Modi held his first rally after assuming the office in 2014.
00:54 And in March 2024, he paid floral tributes to the victims of the 1998 blasts in a makeshift memorial square in Coimbatore.
01:02 Emphasizing on linguistic pride and regional autonomy, the Dravidian parties DMK and AIA-DMK
01:09 have emerged as the dominant parties of Tamil Nadu.
