00:00 Yeah, maybe there was something in it that shouldn't have been.
00:04 Riley Strain's mom is shedding light on her last conversation with her late son.
00:10 Nearly one month after the 22-year-old's body was recovered from Nashville's Cumberland River,
00:16 Michelle Wadid is recalling the final messages she received from her son before he went missing.
00:21 She says this during an interview with NewsNation on April 16th.
00:27 He had sent me a text and said that he had ordered a, he was drinking a rum and coke and it didn't
00:33 taste good. And I said, well you probably shouldn't drink it then. He goes, well it tastes like
00:38 barbecue. And I go, well that sounds awful. And he said, well it sounds good but it's not.
00:46 When a rum and coke normally tastes the same, I mean that's not something that you really
00:50 normally taste any different. Right.
00:53 It has a very consistent taste. Yes, yes.
00:57 And that's why I'm like, you probably shouldn't drink that then.
01:00 Do you think that could have something to do with what happened?
01:04 Yeah, maybe there was something in it that shouldn't have been.
01:11 Michelle goes on to say this about Riley's Delta Chief fraternity brother's reaction
01:17 the night that the 22-year-old went missing.
01:19 The fraternity brothers had not gone to the police when they called you?
01:25 Not that I am aware of.
01:27 Were you surprised?
01:28 Yes. Because why wouldn't they?
01:31 Why wouldn't they have called the police when they got back at 3.15 in the morning
01:38 and didn't see him then? Why wouldn't they have called the police? I don't know.
01:48 So seven or eight hours had gone by from the time they got back to the hotel to when they called you
01:55 do you have any idea why they didn't call the police until then?
01:58 I don't. I don't know.
02:01 The messages are just the latest update in the case of Riley's March 8th disappearance
02:06 during a night out with friends in downtown Nashville.
02:10 After reports surfaced that a witness had come forward as the last person to speak with the
02:16 University of Missouri student that night, a spokesperson for the Nashville Police Department
02:22 tells E! News on April 12th that the unnamed person recanted their statement
02:27 after alleging that they had not seen him but someone else.
02:31 The spokesperson continues, "The case remains open and unclassified," pending the report from
02:38 the medical examiner's office, which is awaiting toxicology reports. Until now,
02:44 there is no tangible reason to believe that there was any foul play involved.
