00:02Machine Gun Kelly opens up about some traumatic family history.
00:07The musician, who now goes by MGK, sits down for the August 5th episode of Bunny XO's Dumb Blonde
00:14podcast, where he dives into his family's generational trauma stemming from when his
00:19dad stood trial for the murder of his own father at age nine.
00:24And the story that was told to me was always that, you know, the dad dropped the gun and his
00:31head essentially blew off. And so that all happened in the room with my dad at nine years old.
00:38And so him and my grandmother were tried for the murder. They were both acquitted.
00:42While the 34-year-old explains that as he's gotten older,
00:45he understands how the incident impacted his father long-term.
00:50I always used to get so mad at him when I was a kid because if I scared him or he heard a
00:54loud boom or a loud noise, he would freak out, like gnarly freak out. And I would be like,
01:05you're supposed to be like, you're supposed to be a man, dude. Like, why are you acting like this?
01:09And I would, we would, you know, it just made me hate him. And then you sit there and you think
01:16about a kid who was on trial at nine years old for the murder of his father.
01:23He also shares insight into how his father's traumatic experience was passed on to him.
01:29I've projected myself to be somebody who has the stamina to endure
01:38things that come with fame and criticism and hate because I
01:46fought back with all those traumas by becoming what I always wanted my dad to be,
01:51which was like tough and, you know, shake everything off and just
01:57fight anyone who, you know, comes at you.
02:00Just now fixing myself and I don't have the energy to be the image that I was.
