03:33 Happy birthday!
03:35 Is it okay?
03:40 You look so handsome.
03:42 If I'm going there, am I gonna get back to grandpa?
03:45 Grandma, grandpa, grandma
03:48 So handsome.
03:51 Bryan was only six months young
04:02 when he first arrived in the Philippines
04:04 in his grandfather's hometown, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.
04:07 But Bryan's father, Ben, did not expect
04:10 that their return to the country
04:12 would open wounds again
04:14 that he thought were healed
04:16 over time.
04:18 Oh, no.
04:20 Bryan is really sleeping.
04:21 He's not waking up.
04:23 Oh, he's not sleeping.
04:24 Okay, eat up.
04:26 Ben, what were you saying?
04:29 Rose is looking for a job
04:32 in a meat shop in Hawaii.
04:33 She'll be here for two weeks.
04:36 It's a waste of money to work there.
04:38 If you're going to work hard in America,
04:40 it's impossible that you won't get a promotion.
04:42 Really, Rose?
04:44 After I graduate, I'll be the only one in America.
04:47 Of course.
04:48 You'll get a job there easily.
04:50 And the nurses there are not that good.
04:52 You'll make a lot of money.
04:53 Really?
04:54 Maybe I'll get to see my future husband there.
04:57 Wait, you're getting married?
04:59 I'm just kidding.
05:00 I just want to go to America.
05:02 You're crazy.
05:04 Did you think that would be easy?
05:07 Rose,
05:09 when you return to Hawaii,
05:12 will you bring my grandson?
05:14 Not yet.
05:16 He'll stay here with Ben
05:19 so that I can concentrate on my work there.
05:22 And then?
05:24 That's for now, Father.
05:30 I asked you that
05:32 because I want to know
05:34 what your plan is to get married to your family.
05:37 Father,
05:40 I want to continue my plan to build a bar.
05:44 Bar?
05:45 Here in our country,
05:48 it's only 8 o'clock at night,
05:50 and people are already asleep.
05:51 Who will go to your bar?
05:53 The people here,
05:55 the people of the country.
05:58 This is your burden, Jai Eli.
06:00 I'll find a job.
06:03 Think about it, son.
06:05 If I were to follow you,
06:07 I don't want to grow up in America.
06:10 There are a lot of people who can make a living here.
06:14 The only problem with our countrymen
06:17 is that they don't think enough.
06:21 When they're in trouble,
06:23 they go abroad right away.
06:27 That's not the only thing they regret.
06:30 You can be sure of that.
06:33 There are a lot of people who don't have a job.
06:37 Life is better abroad.
06:40 I don't believe that.
06:42 Look at us, your parents.
06:46 Sometimes,
06:48 we don't think about the other countries.
06:52 But look at us.
06:55 Somehow, we still survive.
06:58 For me,
07:00 going abroad
07:02 is the work of people who are not content
07:05 with what they have.
07:08 You're so funny, Oscar.
07:10 You're embarrassing me, Rose.
07:13 You're embarrassing me.
07:14 Ben,
07:17 if you only listened to me,
07:20 if you only finished your studies
07:23 and you didn't get tired of it right away,
07:25 you would have a better future.
07:30 You wouldn't have to go abroad
07:34 to America.
07:36 Oscar,
07:38 times have changed.
07:40 You shouldn't judge people so easily.
07:44 People have their own reasons
07:47 and their own ways
07:49 to make a living.
07:51 Anyway,
07:52 I want
07:55 my grandson to grow up here,
07:59 not in America.
08:01 Although there was tension between Brian's grandfather and father,
08:06 it slowly faded away.
08:08 The attention of the whole family
08:11 to Brian's childhood was not enough.
08:13 He was just a child
08:14 when he was attracted
08:16 to his grandfather's love for boxing.
08:20 You can't do that!
08:21 You're an uppercut!
08:23 You can't do that!
08:25 You know that!
08:27 You're a beast!
08:29 Grandpa?
08:30 Yes, why?
08:31 Why are they fighting?
08:34 Are they going to fight?
08:36 No,
08:38 that's how boxing is.
08:40 Watch closely.
08:42 Look.
08:43 That's what you do.
08:47 This is what you do.
08:48 This is what you do.
08:50 See?
08:51 It's hard to fight.
08:53 That's how strong you should be.
08:57 Huh?
08:58 Go ahead.
09:01 Go ahead, Mom.
09:03 My dad might see you.
09:05 He'll get mad at me.
09:06 What if I see you again tomorrow?
09:07 I'll leave it to you, Iwan.
09:08 Go ahead.
09:10 [car engine]
09:12 [music]
09:16 [baby crying]
09:18 Jasmine,
09:22 I told you,
09:26 I don't want to see you with that man.
09:30 He's a good-for-nothing, a liar!
09:33 Dad, he's not like that.
09:34 He's a good man.
09:36 Good?
09:37 What's good about him?
09:39 That's enough, Oscar.
09:40 What's your problem?
09:41 What do you mean?
09:42 What do you want?
09:43 Your son will explain.
09:45 Jasmine, remember this.
09:48 The time I catch you with that man,
09:52 you won't leave the house for a week.
09:56 Dad, I'm not a kid anymore.
09:58 I know what I'm doing.
10:00 Why are you still answering?
10:02 Because I'm not doing anything wrong.
10:04 Shut up!
10:05 Enough, Oscar.
10:07 What's your problem?
10:09 [music]
10:11 Aunt Jasmine,
10:21 drink this.
10:23 You haven't eaten yet.
10:26 Thank you.
10:28 Come here, you're tired.
10:32 Aunt Jasmine,
10:38 are you mad at Grandpa?
10:40 Huh?
10:41 Me?
10:42 Mad at Grandpa?
10:43 No.
10:45 I'll make him understand.
10:47 Grandpas are really like that.
10:50 Grandma said,
10:53 strict.
10:56 Strict.
10:57 What does that mean?
11:00 Strict?
11:02 Strict means,
11:04 strict.
11:06 And,
11:08 disciplined.
11:10 Grandpas are really like that.
11:12 Why is he like that?
11:15 Because,
11:17 he's my father.
11:19 That's how fathers are.
11:21 They know what's good,
11:24 and what's bad for you.
11:27 Don't be mad at men.
11:30 That's bad.
11:33 You're really...
11:34 Come here, let me hug you.
11:37 I'm so tired.
11:41 There are a lot of fruits near the river.
11:52 Yes, I want to eat mangoes.
11:54 It's delicious.
11:55 It's like, delicious.
11:57 And the water is delicious.
11:59 Yes, it's fresh.
12:01 Yes.
12:02 Let's go back tomorrow.
12:03 I'll say goodbye to your dad.
12:05 Hey, what did you get?
12:07 It's hard to explain.
12:09 It's ours.
12:10 It's ours.
12:11 We got it.
12:13 So, it's ours.
12:14 Go away, you're a bad boy.
12:16 You're a bad boy.
12:17 Bad boy.
12:18 Bad boy.
12:19 Do you think I'm a bad boy?
12:22 Bad boy.
12:24 You're not allowed to teach here.
12:26 Bad boy.
12:31 Hey, what's that?
12:33 What's that?
12:35 Don't go there.
12:36 Why are you making the kids lose?
12:42 Because there are only two of us,
12:44 there are three of them,
12:45 and I'm still small.
12:47 That's not the reason why you're making them lose.
12:50 Even if you're small,
12:53 you can still win.
12:56 Remember that.
13:00 With his parents' support,
13:02 Bryan's interest in boxing grew.
13:05 He loves boxing.
13:08 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
13:12 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
13:15 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
13:18 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.

13:51 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
13:55 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
13:59 Bryan's parents' support helped him to be successful.
14:02 Hurry up, I'm going to be late.
14:04 Why?
14:05 Please.
14:08 How many more?
14:11 Hurry up!
14:14 We won't bother you anymore.
14:17 You're a coward.
14:18 Coward?
14:19 We're not cowards. We're not afraid of you.
14:22 You're the cowards.
14:23 You're a coward.
14:24 Hurry up!
14:30 I'm going to be late.
14:31 Hurry up!
14:32 You're so slow.
14:34 Hurry up!
14:35 Hurry up!
14:40 I'm going to be late.
14:41 You're so slow.
14:44 The winner is, Bryan Viloria!
14:49 You're so slow. I was so angry with you.
14:57 Bryan, where are you?
14:59 Wait, why are you so late?
15:01 Where did you come from?
15:02 What happened?
15:03 What did your father do?
15:05 Don't worry, Brother Ben.
15:07 He just beat up the kids who were teasing us.
15:10 They all lost in the first round.
15:13 There were three of them.
15:14 Daddy, I was so good at kicking.
15:17 I hope you're there so you can see me.
15:21 Grandpa, I defeated all my opponents.
15:26 Even though I'm just a kid, I can defeat them all.
15:31 Grandpa?
15:33 Grandpa?
15:35 Grandpa, why?
15:40 Bryan, our visa has been approved.
15:48 We're going back to Hawaii.
15:52 We're going to leave in two days.
15:56 I'm waiting for you.
16:00 Your mom is waiting for us.
16:02 Grandpa, what about Grandpa?
16:06 Why are you sad?
16:11 Aren't you going to be with us?
16:14 You won't be with my grandson.
16:17 Let's not fight this anymore.
16:20 Ben!
16:21 You teased me once.
16:24 You won't be with my grandson.
16:28 I won't let you ruin his future.
16:31 You have no right to tell me what I'm going to do to my family.
16:35 I'm going to take Bryan to Hawaii.
16:38 If you don't want me to, then I don't care.
16:40 Let's go!
16:41 [♪♪♪]
16:45 [♪♪♪]
16:49 [♪♪♪]
17:16 [♪♪♪]
17:19 Grandpa?
17:29 Yes?
17:31 Why?
17:33 Are you mad at us?
17:35 Yes, why would I be mad at you?
17:39 Because we're leaving.
17:43 I won't be able to see you anymore.
17:46 Grandpa is not mad at you.
17:48 He's just sad.
17:51 Don't be sad.
17:53 I promise, I'll be back.
17:56 And when I come back, I'll be a world champion in boxing,
18:00 just like Muhammad Ali.
18:02 But promise me that you'll wait for me.
18:07 And you have to see the belt that I'm going to bring home.
18:11 I promise.
18:14 [♪♪♪]
18:17 [♪♪♪]
18:22 Don't be mad, okay?
18:24 My son.
18:26 Don't be mad, okay?
18:29 Bryan.
18:30 Yes?
18:31 When you come back, be strong, okay?
18:36 Okay, Uncle.
18:43 [♪♪♪]
18:46 Come on.
18:55 We're coming.
18:57 [♪♪♪]
19:01 [♪♪♪]
19:26 [speaking in Tagalog]
19:30 Bryan, eat your dinner.
19:49 Don't starve yourself.
19:51 Don't talk to him in English.
19:53 He doesn't understand you.
19:56 Bryan, eat your dinner.
20:00 Maybe he lost his tongue.
20:02 Have you lost your tongue, Bryan?
20:05 That's mine!
20:09 That's mine!
20:11 This is mine!
20:13 Stop it!
20:15 This is mine!
20:17 Bryan, get out!
20:19 What's the matter with you two?
20:21 [♪♪♪]
20:23 Bryan, where are you going?
20:26 [♪♪♪]
20:29 Bryan?
20:38 Gaylord?
20:40 Bryan?
20:42 Gaylord?
20:44 Bryan?
20:46 Bryan?
20:48 Bryan?
20:50 Bryan?
20:52 Gaylord?
20:54 Hey, guys.
20:57 Hey, come here.
21:02 Show me something.
21:04 Put it here, son.
21:06 Yes, Dad.
21:08 From now on, kids,
21:10 if you're angry or have a bad temper,
21:13 you'll go to this garage.
21:16 Yes.
21:18 And you'll pour your bad temper in this punching bag.
21:22 Do you understand me?
21:24 Gaylord?
21:26 Bryan?
21:28 Okay.
21:30 Bryan?
21:32 Bryan's interest in boxing grew.
21:35 When he was younger, his father brought him to amateur and inter-school boxing matches.
21:41 Bryan showed his potential.
21:44 This was also a way for Bryan to stay away from the influence of his brother.
21:50 But as they grew up, they grew more afraid of their brother.
21:55 Fight!
21:58 Fight!
22:00 Fight!
22:02 Fight!
22:04 Fight!
22:06 Fight!
22:08 Stop!
22:10 I said stop!
22:15 Bryan's difference from his brother became more prominent.
22:20 He was well-educated and his son was obedient.
22:24 He was subtle and rebellious.
22:28 Hey, that's my shirt.
22:33 I said that's my shirt. Take it off.
22:41 No. Are you crazy? This is my T-shirt.
22:46 Look, Mommy bought this for me. So take it off.
22:53 Take it off!
23:04 Take it off!
23:10 Hey, stop it! What's happening?
23:14 What's happening here? Bryan, Gaylord, stop it!
23:18 Let me go!
23:22 Hey, stop it! Stop it!
23:25 You two, stop it!
23:27 Stop it!
23:29 You two, stop it! You might end up as siblings.
23:33 Your father is so full of himself.
23:38 [thunder]
23:41 [music]
23:44 [sobbing]
23:48 [sobbing]
23:52 [music]
23:56 [sobbing]
23:59 [music]
24:04 [music]
24:24 [music]
24:27 Gaylord.
24:47 [music]
24:54 Despite their parents' support,
24:57 the siblings remained distant from each other.
25:01 Meanwhile, Bryan managed to pass his studies and boxing.
25:07 He also met Mabel, the first woman who made his heart pound.
25:12 Hey.
25:14 Hi, Bryan.
25:15 Well, I just thought that you might need assistance
25:18 for your future school project.
25:21 Huh?
25:22 There. You know, Bryan, I already finished it.
25:25 I'll submit it later.
25:27 Oh, is that so?
25:29 But, thanks anyway.
25:31 You know, your inputs really helped.
25:33 In fact, I even quoted some of your lines.
25:36 Really?
25:37 Yes.
25:38 I'll read it.
25:39 Okay, if you want, I'll email it to you later.
25:42 Oh, and you, how's the article you're editing?
25:47 It's okay.
25:49 The articles are still cool, but it's shaping up.
25:53 By the way, you want to watch a movie?
25:58 Huh?
25:59 Because Al Pacino and Robert De Niro have a new movie.
26:04 But that's a guy movie, right?
26:07 Well, yeah, action.
26:09 But if you want, we can watch a different movie.
26:13 A girl movie, I guess.
26:15 No, you know, it's okay. Actually, I also like Al Pacino.
26:18 Oh, really?
26:19 Yes.
26:20 Mom!
26:22 Dinner with your auntie Cara. Coming home late.
26:31 Don't move!
26:38 Why are you holding that? Where did you get that?
26:45 From Daddy.
26:47 Let go of that!
26:49 Why? Are you afraid?
26:52 Are you going to break it? Let go of that!
26:56 Why? Are you going to tell Daddy again?
26:59 You're so stingy!
27:01 You're also afraid!
27:18 I'm not afraid of you.
27:20 I'm afraid of you.
27:22 You're afraid of me?
27:24 I'm afraid of you.
27:26 I'm afraid of you.
27:28 I'm afraid of you.
27:30 I'm afraid of you.
27:32 I'm afraid of you.
27:34 I'm afraid of you.
27:36 I'm afraid of you.
27:38 I'm afraid of you.
27:40 I'm afraid of you.
27:42 I'm afraid of you.
27:44 I'm afraid of you.
27:46 I'm afraid of you.
27:48 I'm afraid of you.
27:50 I'm afraid of you.
27:52 I'm afraid of you.
27:54 I'm afraid of you.
27:56 I'm afraid of you.
27:58 I'm afraid of you.
28:00 I'm afraid of you.
28:02 I'm afraid of you.
28:04 I'm afraid of you.
28:06 I'm afraid of you.
28:08 I'm afraid of you.
28:10 I'm afraid of you.
28:12 I'm afraid of you.
28:14 I'm afraid of you.
28:16 I'm afraid of you.
28:18 I'm afraid of you.
28:20 I'm afraid of you.
28:22 I'm afraid of you.
28:24 I'm afraid of you.
28:26 I'm afraid of you.
28:28 I'm afraid of you.
28:30 I'm afraid of you.
28:32 I'm afraid of you.
