Daniel Wales looks at the variables that will decide whether the Premier League is granted more spots in UEFA European competitions.
Transcript
00:00 Due to the Champions League expanding next season, the two leagues in Europe whose teams
00:07 competing in UEFA competitions this season will be granted an extra place each in the
00:13 Champions League. Currently, the coefficients are in favour of Italy and Germany, following
00:19 poor performances by English teams in the last week. However, if England and the Premier
00:24 League were to move into the top two, fifth place would be a Champions League spot, sixth
00:30 place would then be the Europa League spot, with seventh qualifying for the Conference
00:35 League. However, seventh could also become a Europa League place, and eighth the Conference
00:41 League if a team already qualified for Europe via the Premier League were to win the FA
00:47 Cup. Nothing is yet confirmed though, so those competing for these potential places in the
00:53 Premier League still have much work to do.
