00:00 In an exclusive interview for our multiplatform Telesur,
00:04 Granada's Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell,
00:06 recognised the importance of strengthening multilateralism
00:10 and solidarity to face the challenges of today.
00:14 More than ever, I think, it's in Caricom,
00:17 between Cuba and Caricom, the wider region, we recognise
00:21 we need to reinforce multilateralism.
00:25 We need to reinforce diplomatic conversations
00:28 with each other.
00:30 We need to reinforce our solidarity,
00:32 because the challenges we face, in many instances,
00:35 are not of our own doing.
00:36 They're external to us, whether it's
00:38 wars, economic shocks, the climate issues that we all
00:43 face, the climate crisis issues.
00:45 So we do recognise that we have to, in fact,
00:47 remain more united.
00:49 We need to remain closer with each other
00:51 to foster solidarity, to make sure we
00:52 can find common solutions to the challenges that we face.
00:57 The Prime Minister highlighted the importance, also,
01:00 of the peoples of the region to know each other,
01:03 and the role media like Telesur play to achieve this.
01:08 When our citizens visit the islands or the countries
01:12 within the region, we get a greater understanding
01:14 of what unites us.
01:15 And it makes it easier, therefore, for governments
01:17 to work in our collective interests.
01:20 So it's not just about the leadership level,
01:22 but it's also important for it to happen at the people level.
01:26 And I think a programme like yours is a good way of doing so.
01:29 Oftentimes, we underestimate the importance of the media
01:32 in teaching each other about each other.
01:35 And obviously, when we do that, it
01:36 makes it easier for our people to understand
01:38 that we are more similar, rather than dissimilar,
01:42 that we face common challenges, and that we can help each other.
01:46 So certainly, in the case of Cuba, for example,
01:48 cultural exchanges, I think, between our citizens,
01:51 whether it's music, art, sport, these things help quite a lot.
