00:28 OK, from now on, whoever gets here late
00:32 has to lug the firewood for a month.
00:35 She's not even late yet.
00:37 Oh, she will be.
00:41 In five seconds, Megan gets a month of hard labor.
00:45 Five, four, three, two--
00:49 Sorry, guys.
00:51 This is way heavier than I thought.
00:53 Getting out here took forever.
00:55 One second short of forever.
00:58 Huh?
00:59 Don't worry about it.
01:01 What you got?
01:02 Oh, it's for my story.
01:03 Could you put it by the chair?
01:05 Thanks.
01:07 I've got a story about artists and the amazing things
01:11 that they create.
01:12 That's pretty low on the amazing scale.
01:19 But it isn't.
01:21 To us, this is just a chunk of marble.
01:25 But to an artist, there's a beautiful creation inside
01:30 waiting to be released.
01:31 Yeah, this could turn out to be anything.
01:38 It's the same thing with a blank piece of paper
01:41 or an empty canvas.
01:43 It's the vision of the artist that
01:45 turns a piece of nothing into something special.
01:50 That's what my story is about.
01:52 When an artist creates something,
01:54 they put so much thought and care, so much of themselves
01:58 into it.
02:00 It's almost as if they're giving their work life.
02:04 And where there's life, there's emotion.
02:09 What if a statue could be happy or sad or lonely or even angry?
02:21 Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,
02:26 I call this story "The Tale of the Stone Maiden."

03:26 Say good night, folks.
03:28 Good game.
03:29 Good game.
03:30 Dynamic duo strikes again.
03:32 Kevin.
03:33 All right, we got lucky.
03:35 Give me a break.
03:37 All right.
03:39 Your butt.
03:40 Oh, my god.
03:41 You're so funny.
03:42 I'm going to kill you.

03:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:54 We kicked your butts.
03:56 [LAUGHTER]
03:59 Hey, I'm dying of thirst here.
04:01 Who wants a soda?
04:02 Hey, man, we'll get them.
04:03 Loser's walk.
04:04 Oh, no.
04:05 We're not squirrel winners.
04:06 It's on us.
04:07 I'll come with you.
04:08 Use the time to practice.
04:10 That means volleyball.
04:11 Ha, ha.
04:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:16 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:19 Come on, let's run.
04:22 Hey.
04:25 Come on, give me some funny faces.
04:28 Oh, this one.
04:29 Ha, ha.
04:30 Great, great.
04:33 Enough pictures.
04:35 Stop.
04:36 No, I'm fine.

04:59 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:01 Hey.
05:02 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:04 What was that?
05:06 What?
05:08 It's not like I--
05:09 It's nothing.
05:10 It's cool.
05:11 Wait, I want to talk to you.
05:13 Oh, this sounds serious.
05:15 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:17 [SIGHS]
05:20 Are we having dinner with your parents tonight or not?
05:22 Oh, yeah.
05:25 My dad-- I forgot.
05:27 My dad had to go out of town on business,
05:29 and my mom's having friends over.
05:31 So another time.
05:34 Hey, why?
05:36 Well, don't you think it's kind of weird I haven't met them yet?
05:39 I mean, we've been together for three months now.
05:41 You know, you know, this has got to be the right time.
05:44 Why?
05:46 Well, they're not used to people like you.
05:50 What do you mean, like me?
05:51 That came out wrong.
05:57 It's just that they're so straight, you know?
05:59 They don't get the arty types.
06:00 What?
06:01 It's like I've got an eye in the middle
06:02 of my forehead or something?
06:03 Come on, don't overreact.
06:05 I'm not overreacting, Kevin.
06:06 This is serious.
06:07 It's like you're ashamed of me or something.
06:09 I'm not, but you're different.
06:12 And that's bad?
06:13 No, but it makes it hard, Julie.
06:16 Yeah?
06:18 Well, then, being with me is just so hard.
06:21 Maybe we shouldn't be together at all.
06:23 I didn't say that, Julie.
06:24 But that's how you feel.
06:26 Come on.
06:26 No, Kevin, I'm tired of feeling like I'm
06:28 not good enough for you.
06:30 So what are you saying?
06:33 I'm saying maybe we should take a time out here to figure
06:37 out where we're going.
06:39 I don't believe this.
06:41 If that's the way you feel, fine.
06:45 This isn't my choice.
06:47 It's not mine either.
06:48 Well, yeah, it is.
07:15 [HORSE NEIGHING]
07:18 OK, could things get any worse?
07:33 [MUSIC PLAYING]
07:37 Thanks.
07:57 [MUSIC PLAYING]
08:00 I shouldn't have done that.
08:16 Julie?
08:19 Julie?
08:20 [MUSIC PLAYING]
08:24 [WATER SPLASHING]
08:27 Oh, this is bad.
08:29 Oh, who are you looking at?
08:37 Back off, man.
08:39 Back off!
08:40 You broke up?
08:50 Just now?
08:52 But you guys are like made for each other.
08:55 Yeah, I thought so too, but Kevin doesn't.
08:59 Listen, he's got to come back this way.
09:01 His pack's still here.
09:02 You know, I'm going to go find him.
09:04 He's probably at the snack bar.
09:05 What, for half an hour?
09:07 No, I'll find him.
09:09 [MUSIC PLAYING]
09:13 I don't think he's here.
09:18 He must have gone home.
09:20 What do you want to do?
09:22 Let's just go.
09:23 Maybe you should call him tonight,
09:30 now that you're cooled off and all.
09:33 Yeah.
09:35 Maybe.
09:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
09:39 [PHONE RINGING]
09:43 Yes?
09:58 Dr. Tyler, this is Julie Hart, Kevin's friend.
10:03 What can I do for you?
10:05 Could I speak to him?
10:06 Isn't he with you?
10:07 Is that Kevin?
10:09 Where is he?
10:10 He's his little friend.
10:12 We were at the park today together, but he left before me.
10:15 And he didn't say where he was going?
10:17 Well, no.
10:19 He's not home?
10:20 What is it?
10:21 What's wrong?
10:22 No, and he's very late.
10:25 Well, could you ask him to call me when he gets in?
10:28 He'll have to speak to you tomorrow.
10:29 He's already well past curfew.
10:31 Oh.
10:32 OK.
10:33 Thanks.
10:34 Good night.
10:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
10:39 [MUSIC PLAYING]
10:42 [MUSIC PLAYING]
10:47 [MUSIC PLAYING]
10:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]
10:55 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:04 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:13 [MUSIC PLAYING]
11:16 Any news?
11:36 No.
11:37 It's like he dropped off the face of the earth.
11:40 No one has seen him.
11:41 I'm sure he's OK.
11:42 But what if something happened to him?
11:44 Hey, heads up.
11:45 It's the Tylers.
11:48 It's all right.
11:49 Dr. and Mrs. Tyler, I'm Julie.
11:58 Where's my son?
12:00 I don't know.
12:01 He hasn't been the same since he met you, young lady.
12:04 If you had anything to do with this--
12:06 Honey, honey.
12:08 This won't solve anything.
12:09 Come on.
12:10 Come on.
12:12 I want to find him as much as you do.
12:16 [MUSIC PLAYING]
12:20 [PHONE RINGING]
12:40 [MUSIC PLAYING]
12:44 [SCREAMING]
13:04 [MUSIC PLAYING]
13:08 Wait!
13:23 Leave me alone.
13:25 No, I won't hurt you.
13:27 It's OK.
13:28 What do you want?
13:30 Your friend.
13:31 I know where he is.
13:33 Kevin?
13:35 Where is he?
13:37 I'll take you to him.
13:38 No, no, no.
13:45 Don't be afraid.
13:47 Please.
13:48 [MUSIC PLAYING]
13:52 There.
13:58 Sit for yourself.
13:59 [MUSIC PLAYING]
14:03 [MUSIC PLAYING]
14:06 This is not funny.
14:25 Who are you?
14:32 Well, I'm the protector.
14:37 I bring the message.
14:41 We must follow the four R's.
14:43 Reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover.
14:50 I saw you in the picture.
14:56 You were watching us.
14:58 Where is Kevin?
15:00 Well, there.
15:03 That's him.
15:04 He turned to stone.
15:09 I mean, I saw it myself.
15:13 Yeah, right.
15:14 No, but it's true.
15:16 He drank the water.
15:22 And then, well, it just happens.
15:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
15:28 You're crazy.
15:36 Crazy?
15:37 A little.
15:38 But I'm telling the truth.
15:43 And I saw who did it to him.
15:46 [MUSIC PLAYING]
15:50 [MUSIC PLAYING]
15:53 He was right here.
16:02 He took a drink.
16:03 And then he looked sick.
16:06 I tried to help him, but he just got up and he ran.
16:11 And then he saw what happened.
16:13 [GROANING]
16:17 [MUSIC PLAYING]
16:20 Why are you making up this story?
16:33 I'm not.
16:35 Look, she did this to him.
16:38 I-- that's her fault. Look, I wish I didn't see it,
16:43 but I did.
16:44 [MUSIC PLAYING]
16:47 "The Snow and Maiden" by Vivian White.
16:53 Why would I lie?
16:58 [MUSIC PLAYING]
17:02 [MUSIC PLAYING]
17:05 I don't know who's nuttier, me or you.
17:31 Well, that-- that would be me.
17:33 [LAUGHING]
17:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
17:39 Hello?
17:48 Is anyone here?
17:51 Can I help you?
17:52 Vivian White?
17:58 [MUSIC PLAYING]
18:01 My name is Julie.
18:03 And this is the--
18:06 what's your real name?
18:07 Oh, I never tell.
18:10 Make an exception.
18:11 Henry.
18:11 And this is Henry.
18:18 Look, I know this is going to sound completely ridiculous,
18:23 but you know your statue in the park, the stone maiden?
18:27 Well, Henry says it turned my boyfriend into stone.
18:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
18:34 Look, I'm sorry.
18:38 We'll go now.
18:40 Wait.
18:42 Turning people to stone is exactly what she does.
18:47 [MUSIC PLAYING]
18:50 Oh, amazing.
18:54 Recycling is art.
18:56 Oh, this is incredible.
19:00 I made the stone maiden years ago,
19:02 and I was depressed about not having any romance in my life.
19:06 I'm still looking.
19:07 The legend of the stone maiden dates back to ancient Greece.
19:16 It was a tragic romance about a young couple whose families
19:19 didn't approve of their relationship.
19:22 So rather than be torn apart, she
19:26 found a potion that would turn them both into stone.
19:31 Their love was so strong that they
19:34 chose to be together forever as statues
19:37 rather than spend the rest of their lives apart.
19:41 Oh, here, here, look.
19:42 I based the statue on this very sketch.
19:45 That's it?
19:46 But who's that?
19:48 Her young lover, of course.
19:50 Why didn't you sculpt him, too?
19:53 I did.
19:55 Are we talking about the same statue?
19:57 Yeah, that's her, but she's alone.
20:00 There's no boy statue.
20:01 No.
20:08 No, you can't do that.
20:10 I don't care what your reasons are.
20:12 That's my work.
20:13 I demand that you--
20:15 hello?
20:16 Hello?
20:18 Bureaucrats.
20:19 They hung up on me.
20:20 What did they say?
20:21 They sold half my statue to a park in New York
20:26 to balance their budget.
20:28 Oh, I can't stand it.
20:31 That's like tearing up the Mona Lisa for postcards.
20:36 Well, at least it still works.
20:38 What do you mean?
20:39 The water pump, they didn't break it.
20:41 There's no water pump in my statue.
20:44 Yes, there is.
20:45 Water pours out of her vase.
20:46 I saw it.
20:48 I promise you, Julie, there is no
20:50 water pump in my statue.
20:53 Excuse me.
20:57 I know you don't believe me, but it's true.
21:00 There is water, and Kevin drank it.
21:03 That's when he turned to stone.
21:07 Isn't that what happens in the legend?
21:09 Yes, but it's just a story.
21:12 Maybe.
21:14 Or maybe the statue doesn't like to be apart from its mate.
21:18 If she gets him back, then maybe she'll let Kevin go.
21:22 Let's put them back together.
21:29 Look, lady, it's not my decision.
21:32 The statue is on the way out.
21:33 Half a statue.
21:34 I donated a whole statue to this park.
21:37 Look, here's the agreement.
21:38 It clearly states that the statue cannot be cut up
21:41 and sold piecemeal.
21:43 Well, yeah, it can't, because there it goes.
21:46 What?
21:47 How dare he?
21:48 This is yours.
21:50 Hey!
21:51 Hey, that's my bike!
21:52 Are you crazy?
22:13 He could have killed you.
22:15 You can't take that statue.
22:16 You've got to put it back.
22:17 This thing is booked on a train to New York in 20 minutes,
22:20 and it ain't going to be late.
22:22 Get on the truck.
22:23 No, you can't!
22:24 Look, they made a mistake, OK?
22:26 The statue never should have been sold in the first place.
22:29 Why don't you just put it back?
22:31 I can't do that.
22:33 I've got a signed order here that says that this thing--
22:37 Hey!
22:38 Hey!
22:39 [sirens]
22:42 [music playing]
22:45 Put it back.
22:56 Back in the truck.
22:57 Oh, go away.
22:59 What?
23:00 [chewing]
23:03 Oh, I wouldn't drink that.
23:06 Look, we're just going to take it away again.
23:09 Oh, no, you're not.
23:11 That statue remains intact.
23:13 Julie, what is this?
23:19 What are we doing out here?
23:21 Where is Kevin?
23:23 Look, I don't know how to say this,
23:26 and I'm not even sure I understand it myself,
23:29 but we think something happened to Kevin
23:32 because he drank the water from this fountain.
23:34 What?
23:35 He's poisoned?
23:36 No, not exactly.
23:38 Julie!
23:40 [chewing]
23:43 There ain't no water pump in that statue.
23:51 She got her boyfriend back.
23:57 The spell's broken.
24:02 [sobbing]
24:04 Well, where is Kevin?
24:06 Julie!
24:07 Kevin!
24:08 Kevin!
24:09 Kevin!
24:10 It didn't work.
24:20 It was just a story.
24:22 I want answers, young lady, now!
24:25 I'm sorry.
24:29 I was wrong.
24:31 I don't care what your parents think about me or of us.
24:36 We may be different, but we belong together.
24:40 I love you.
24:45 Please, Kevin, come back to me.
24:50 [whispering]
24:52 Is Kev... here?
25:18 You're back!
25:20 No, we're back.
25:23 Well, this is, uh... different.
25:28 I'm not sure we'll ever understand exactly what happened here.
25:40 Oh, I don't know.
25:42 I think we learned that if two people are really made for each other,
25:45 nothing should ever keep them apart.
25:48 Ready?
25:57 We're working on a new line of sculptures with an important message.
26:02 So, when do I meet your parents?
26:12 Not yet.
26:14 [music]
26:17 So, the stone maiden and her boyfriend got back together,
26:33 the way they were always meant to be,
26:36 just like Julie and Kevin.
26:38 That's a good story.
26:40 That was amazing.
26:41 Nice.
26:42 I'm gonna lug that rock back home.
26:44 I know.
26:45 I was kinda hoping one of you guys were gonna help me.
26:48 Ooh, sorry.
26:50 I'm already late.
26:52 Oh, I would if I were stronger, but I'm not, so I can't.
27:00 Bye.
27:02 Yeah, right.
27:10 You know what?
27:12 Thanks, Andy.
27:15 You're the best.
27:16 You're--
27:18 Bye.
27:19 Hey, I said I'd help.
27:21 I didn't say I'd--
27:23 From now on, anyone who leaves early has to lug the firewood for a month.
27:31 All right?
