00:00 Hello, here are the top headlines today, making the news across our newsrooms in the North West.
00:08 A teenager was arrested after a motorbike crashed into a woman and killed her two dogs.
00:14 The motorcyclist reportedly lost control of his bike and mounted the pavement
00:20 in Royal Avenue near Warden Park at around 10.15am yesterday. He struck a woman in her 50s who
00:28 suffered injuries to her leg. He then fled the scene on his bike. An 18-year-old man was later
00:34 arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, ABH, disqualified driving and
00:40 driving with no insurance. Drivers are facing roadworks on two major routes linking Blackpool
00:47 with St Anne's. Work is due to start this spring on £18.5 million improvements to Common
00:54 Edge Road in Blackpool, meaning both main routes linking Blackpool and St Anne's
00:59 will have roadworks on them at the same time. The scheme is aimed at reducing congestion.
01:05 Police are appealing for witnesses and footage after a serious collision in Morecambe.
01:11 The collision between a white BMW and a blue VW Golf happened on the Heysham Bypass,
01:18 near the junction of Heysham Road and Middleton Road. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on
01:23 suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released under
01:28 investigation. A man was taken to hospital after fire broke out at a flat in Wigan Borough.
01:34 Firefighters rushed to Bolton Road, Atherton at around 9pm on Thursday to put out the blaze. One
01:41 man escaped from the flat after being alerted by a smoke alarm and was taken to hospital for
01:45 treatment. A dispersal order in Burnetown Centre was extended for a third day this week following
01:52 reports of a pre-arranged fight between youths. Police say there have been large gatherings in
01:56 the town centre and outbreaks of antisocial behaviour and officers believe this is having
02:01 a significant impact on members of the public who are in the town centre for legitimate reasons.
02:06 Now for the weather. Windy with a chance of coastal gales, plenty of scattered showers,
02:12 these merging to longer spells of rain at times, but feeling warm in sheltered spots.
02:17 Maximum temperature of 15 degrees C. That's it for now, thanks for watching.
