"Girls5Eva" star Busy Philipps joins Dr. Oz to discuss her recent health scares. Find out what caused her recent trip to the hospital and how her relaxing eucalyptus bubble bath went terribly wrong!
Transcript
00:00 Bindi Phillips has starred in some of the biggest TV shows around, like Dawson's Creek,
00:05 and in Cougar Town, and has walked the red carpet alongside some of the biggest celebrities,
00:10 like her best friend, Michelle Williams.
00:12 But behind the scenes, the demands of her professional life did not work for her personal
00:17 life.
00:18 So she decided to cast herself in the role of a lifetime, literally featuring her own
00:22 life in the most unfiltered way out there, sharing absolutely everything, and I mean
00:27 everything, with her followers on Instagram.
00:30 Maybe even oversharing with millions of people every day about her career, about being a
00:33 mom, and of course, her health.
00:36 Take a look.
00:38 Oh my God, do raccoons murder one another after they have sex?
00:44 Because that's what it sounds like that's happening.
00:47 They hope that there's not a dead raccoon on me, don't they?
00:50 Oh my God.
00:51 What do you think if this was your hair color?
00:52 I don't know what that one looks like.
00:53 My mom dyed her hair pink.
00:54 - It's like, my mom dyed her hair pink.
00:57 - It's not really pink.
00:59 - It's like reddish.
01:00 - I think Cricket looks funny with this color hair.
01:02 - What? - Look.
01:04 - She looks adorable.
01:05 - Be in that corner.
01:07 We have to do this all over again.
01:09 - Oh, no.
01:10 - Busy Philips, come on out.
01:14 (upbeat music)
01:17 - Hi.
01:22 - How are you?
01:24 - Thank you very, very much.
01:26 - Oh my gosh, thanks for having me.
01:28 - Well, they're more excited than I am even.
01:29 They're jumping up and down.
01:30 - I'm very excited.
01:31 Hi, everybody.
01:32 Hi.
01:35 - How do you like the couch?
01:36 I mean, it looks like you're--
01:37 - This is a little bit like mine
01:38 and I do sit on this side,
01:39 but I normally cozy up.
01:40 I pull my legs up and I get cozy.
01:43 - I thought you'd enjoy this.
01:44 - Yeah, I really like it.
01:45 Thanks so much.
01:46 Thanks for having me.
01:47 - I'm just happy you're here.
01:48 I was very worried about you.
01:49 Had severe cases of some hive ailment.
01:52 - It's always something with me, Dr. Oz.
01:55 Yeah, I took a nice long warm bath
01:57 in this eucalyptus thing
01:59 and my husband came in and was looking at the package
02:01 and he said, "How much did you put in?"
02:03 And I was like, "I don't know.
02:03 "I just dumped a bunch in."
02:04 And he's like, "It says to use a tablespoon, one tablespoon."
02:07 I probably put in like three cups.
02:09 So anyway, needless to say, the next morning I woke up
02:12 and I was covered in hives.
02:15 And then this week they're kind of like coming and going.
02:17 And I had another, they showed up last night
02:21 and I had to take Benadryl, but it helped me sleep, so.
02:23 (laughing)
02:24 - Did you have a doctor on Instacall?
02:27 - No.
02:28 - Your doctor actually?
02:28 - No, I mean, I have my doctors in Los Angeles
02:31 and I call different doctors
02:34 depending on what is happening to me.
02:36 - So there was one health scare you had
02:37 that was a very serious one.
02:39 Which is this ovarian torsion.
02:41 - Yes.
02:42 - Which I love you can explain.
02:42 This is a picture you posted in the hospital.
02:45 - Yeah, there I was.
02:47 - You're not very happy.
02:47 - I was wearing a hysterical female T-shirt
02:50 and I thought that that was pretty funny.
02:52 The irony of that.
02:54 - Yes.
02:55 (audience applauding)
02:55 - Shirt.
02:56 When I was struck.
02:57 - How did you know that you needed to go to the hospital
03:00 for an ovarian torsion?
03:02 - I didn't know what it was.
03:04 All I knew was that I was curled on the floor of the hotel.
03:08 I couldn't get up.
03:09 And I just knew something was very wrong.
03:12 Not since I gave natural childbirth
03:14 have I had that kind of like pain in my abdomen.
03:17 - Come on over here.
03:18 - Okay.
03:18 - I'm gonna show you what ovarian torsion is.
03:20 - Oh my gosh.
03:21 Dr. Oz.
03:22 - This is a highlight.
03:24 By the way, I know you have Oprah on speed dial.
03:28 - I mean, you have Oprah on speed dial.
03:31 Oprah called me one time and it was the highlight
03:34 of my show.
03:35 If you haven't watched it, you can watch that clip
03:37 on YouTube because I can't stop crying when she called me.
03:41 She's like everything to me, Dr. Oz.
03:43 - She's the fairest woman I know.
03:45 - She's.
03:45 - On that note though.
03:48 - She loves organs.
03:49 Are you ready for your organs?
03:50 - Okay.
03:50 - All right.
03:51 - Is that an ovary?
03:53 - This is actually the uterus.
03:55 - Oh, what?
03:55 - Two ovaries.
03:56 - That's how small a uterus is?
03:57 - Yes.
03:58 Go ahead and feel it.
03:59 You feel how strong the muscle is?
04:01 You can hold a baby in there.
04:03 So what happened to you is this ovary twisted like this.
04:08 It flips.
04:09 - He flipped.
04:10 - And when it flips like that,
04:10 you can see that torsion there, that little twist.
04:12 - That's the pain.
04:13 - Yep, that's the pain.
04:14 - It doesn't feel great, you guys.
04:16 It hurts.
04:17 And the problem with that is that when it twists like that,
04:20 it suffocates the ovary and the ovary dies.
04:23 - That happened to a good friend of mine from high school.
04:25 - Oh no.
04:26 - Yeah, and she had her ovary removed.
04:28 She had to have it removed.
04:29 - What happened to you?
04:30 - My ovary flipped back around, non-surgically.
04:34 - Only busy Philips would have an ovary
04:35 that flips on its own.
04:36 - Yeah.
04:37 (audience applauding)
04:38 - But here's the thing.
04:39 The reason I want to talk about this
04:39 is not because you got lucky
04:40 and didn't have the ovarian torsion.
04:42 It's because there was a caption on the post that you made
04:45 that I want everyone to see.
04:46 - Okay.
04:47 - Because you, his writing says,
04:48 "Don't be a hero, go to the doctor."
04:52 And then you called yourself an idiot, right?
04:55 - I felt like an idiot, you know?
04:56 - See, I don't think anyone should be afraid
04:58 to go to a doctor. - Yes.
05:00 - And in order to celebrate that,
05:01 I got you a little present.
05:02 - What?
05:03 - Yes, from now on, I want you to spread the message.
05:06 - No.
05:07 - Yes.
05:08 - Dr. Oz!
05:08 - Your own cutout.
05:09 (audience applauding)
05:11 So I'll start this.
05:13 Now you have a double love me.
05:14 - I'm so excited.
05:15 Can we send this back to LA for you?
05:17 - Yes.
05:18 - Because you know I have a cutout
05:19 of my best friend, Michelle Williams,
05:20 and she's in my office.
05:21 - I know about this. - There she is.
05:22 - She is.
05:23 - So now I'm gonna have my Dr. Oz,
05:26 and I'm gonna ask you questions all the time.
05:28 - That's what I want.
05:29 I want you just to post, say,
05:30 "I've got questions for you."
05:31 - Okay, Dr. Oz, I have questions for you.
05:32 But I really do think, and part of,
05:34 you know, when you talk about Instagram
05:36 and you talk about oversharing and all of these things,
05:39 part of what I think needs to change
05:42 is especially for women.
05:43 Like, we know that women sometimes feel like
05:46 we're just gonna power through
05:47 and we're not gonna go to the doctor.
05:49 And, you know, I feel like it's so important
05:51 to get the message out.
05:52 It's okay, go to the doctor.
05:54 You can go get help, please.
05:57 - Embarrassment is a foolish reason to die.
05:59 Thank you for watching.
