00:54 The first question, congratulations
00:56 on a great performance.
00:58 Every one of your performances is different.
01:01 But this one being based on Marinette,
01:03 could you talk about what was important in her psychology,
01:07 her movements, her head, everything?
01:10 Could you sort of talk about that?
01:12 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:14 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:16 being able to be credible as a footballer, so I had to train for several months not to become as good as she was since it was not possible but above all to work on the attitude, so to work on the attitude without a ball to be able to be credible in her role
01:37 and to do a whole muscle reinforcement so that my body can hold on the length because the shooting lasted 4 months and a half, more the preparation before, so for 6 months I really had a rhythm
01:49 [Music]
02:18 And also what was very important for me, more on the psychological character, was really to show the evolution of the character who is someone at the same time completely sensitive, who is in a family context, a very chaotic, violent base and who will emancipate, who will find his place in football
02:45 which is also a place of perpetual combat since it is a sport, a discipline that is exclusively reserved for men, so it was to show the character at the same time very sensitive, extremely determined
03:08 and to be able to see the character unfold through all his commitments, his fights and that was completely enjoyable to play for me
03:19 [Music]
03:37 With Marinette, did you talk to her? I mean obviously the autobiography, there's a lot of things you can take away from that, but there's things that she doesn't say that maybe she interrelated in certain ways, I mean how much did you want to take from that?
03:53 How much did you need to make it completely your own? Where's the balance? Because obviously it's a different time now in certain ways and not in others in order to play her
04:03 I actually looked at the few archives she had, there weren't many unfortunately since again it shows how much women in this field are invisible despite being the best in the world
04:20 So yes of course I was obviously inspired by interviews I saw of her, her look, the way she talks, her movement, but also the interpretation I did because I really wanted to pay tribute to her in this film, to honor her and that at the end she can say "Ok, I'm proud of my career"
04:48 And I was lucky to meet her during the shoot, she arrived just in the middle and she was with me of an incredible kindness, she gave me all her encouragement, all her confidence and it was wonderful

05:54 There's so many different things, you can see the joy she has in playing soccer, the joy but you also see obviously the chaotic life and the abuse in many things that she goes through
06:05 Could you talk about balancing those two because it reflects on her psychology, her psyche because she's ambitious, she has a certain expectation but as you see with her girlfriend, I mean there's that, you know she doesn't want to put herself in certain situations
06:20 which you do because of a reaction and how you live your life, could you talk about that and finding those notes in her, you know both personally and professionally that sort of reflect those great attributes that she has but those that reflected on her maybe in different ways

07:35 [French news]
07:44 [French news]
08:09 [French news]
08:17 Because it's interesting, it's sort of a two-pronged question is about, you know, you're talking about almost, it's technique versus instinct, logic versus emotion, you know and how she approaches it but that can be true of acting too, you know you have an instinct of how you should play the character
08:35 the director tells you one thing, the script tells you another, then you have to interpret, can you talk about instinct versus technique as Marinette as you look at her as a character but also you as an actor as you continue to grow the instinct versus the technique of what you do, the balance between logic and emotion in interpretation

10:47 Because what comes to mind when you say that is that with something like this, like say with Titan, with Raw, with those kind of films, it's a genre, so it's heightened reality, so sometimes the actual elements are heightened, here you have to be more naturalistic, is that just something that you sort of settle into as you're shooting or you know just because of what the reality dictates
11:14 is that sort of an evolution of certain acting techniques that you use now, if you don't mind me asking
