00:00 Thailand's move towards legalizing casinos will likely have a major impact on Southeast
00:06 Asia's gaming industry.
00:08 In a research note, Maybank Investment Bank said Genting Malaysia Berhad's resorts World
00:13 Genting is expected to be the least impacted by the development.
00:18 The research house said it is most concerned with Genting Singapore's resorts World Sentosa,
00:23 where around 60% of gross gaming revenue is derived from foreigners.
00:28 Maybank IB is also worried about Nagacorp's Naga 1 and 2, where almost all their GGR is
00:34 derived from foreigners.
00:35 However, the saving grace for the gaming giants is that it will be at least five years before
00:41 the first Thai casino is up and running.
00:44 Thailand took its first step towards legalizing casinos last week as the government looks
00:48 to attract more tourists to support its economy.
00:52 A study by a panel of lawmakers previously found that Thailand can increase tourism revenue
00:57 by about US$12 billion by housing casinos within large entertainment complexes.
