00:00 I'm Adam White and I am store and events manager at the Vinyl Whistle in Heddingley.
00:06 The name Vinyl Whistle comes from our former owner John Moss who was a Premier League referee since retired.
00:13 He was in a band when he was at university in Leeds so he's always had a deep passion for music and he's now passed that on to Neil.
00:20 When it opened I was probably one of the first customers through the door so I got to know John quite well and been shopping in the shop ever since he opened.
00:27 Originally over the road and now at these premises.
00:30 I kind of joked with him a little bit about the fact that he'd done what I wanted to do.
00:34 I guess we had a chat last year and he was looking to do something different.
00:38 The opportunity arose for me to take over so I jumped at the chance.
00:41 Record store day involves a lot of exclusive releases being pressed onto vinyl.
00:47 Sometimes it will be reissues, sometimes it will be artists who have never released anything on vinyl.
00:53 It's nice to celebrate the culture and the community around record buying.
00:59 It's been a lot of work to be honest so far. There's nearly 450, 500 records that are available to order.
01:05 Trying to work out which ones you want, how many you want, which ones are going to sell, which ones aren't.
01:10 I guess it's a relief to have that done now so I guess it will just be now the build up getting things organised for DJs on the day.
01:17 I know for a lot of younger collectors, maybe like the students in Headingley, a lot of it's exclusive variants or access to certain things.
01:25 Especially with bigger artists like Taylor Swift who has led the vinyl revival in the last two or three years.
01:33 A lot of buying albums is down to the experience.
01:36 There's a reason that artists put the track list in that order and it's nice to put something on and enjoy it how it was meant to be enjoyed.
01:45 I've never felt the same physical, emotional connection when I've listened to music in any other way.
01:50 I mean I have got music on my phone like everyone these days but I don't get that same emotional connection as I do when I put a record on a turntable and sit back and enjoy.
