Transcript
00:00 So the Road Saving Project is a NSW State Government program where we partner with local Aboriginal land councils
00:07 and upgrade the road, reserve and infrastructure in the communities.
00:13 What we're finding is in a lot of these communities the road infrastructure isn't quite up to standard.
00:19 So what we'll do is we'll go into communities, work really closely with these land councils
00:26 to upgrade the road reserves, the stormwater, the sewerage, drainage, electrical, where it's required.
00:34 And depending if the community chooses to vote we can either dedicate the assets to local council
00:39 or the LARWC can choose to hold on to those assets to maintain themselves.
00:43 The unique nature of the Roads to Home program is we work really closely with the LARWC
00:48 in delivering the project for community.
00:52 This is achieved through allowing the LARWC to decide what they choose to do with the funding
00:58 for the infrastructure throughout the community.
01:02 Through the program as well the LARWC can choose to offer training and employment opportunities
01:06 where they can actually gain meaningful employment through the contractor throughout the program
01:11 with a view to gain long-term employment after the program is completed.
01:16 We're grateful the Roads to Home crew to come in and give us more opportunities, give us training.
01:20 If we're good enough they'll keep us on here for the night, we can go and get the training
01:23 and go and do jobs somewhere else.
01:25 Drainage and that, they're blocks, so a lot of, some of their houses flood.
01:28 So the council said that we own the roads and we don't have the funding to fix the roads
01:32 so finally we do now and it's getting fixed.
01:35 And to stop the houses from getting flooded.
01:37 Oh well they got us, they did us training in, we did concreting, we did using a kit steer,
01:45 we was using all the heavy machineries, the rollers and stuff like that.
01:51 So yeah.
01:52 It's a good opportunity for your kids to sort of see,
01:54 are your kids to see yourself working in the community?
01:56 Yeah it is, yeah, it shows them willing to work with the community
01:59 and maybe in the future they can get jobs in the community and stuff like that.
