Warrnambool Mermaids' Polish import Julia Nielacna speaks ahead of the Big V basketball season.

00:00 I'm joined by the Warrnambool Mermaid's newest import, Julia. How are you feeling, Julia?

00:05 Good, I'm good. I got here yesterday. I'm really excited to join the team.

00:09 Also, learn more about Australia and start training with the mermaids.

00:14 And you're from Poland but spent time in college in America?

00:18 Yes, so I was born and raised in Poland, went to high school there, played for national team in Poland.

00:24 But then I left for college. I spent six years in America playing Division 1 basketball for the CIS.

00:31 And that would have been a pretty high standard, I imagine.

00:33 Yes, definitely.

00:35 And what are you hoping to achieve this year with the mermaids?

00:37 So, I'm really excited to join the team and definitely will have, hopefully, it will be a wonderful season.

00:44 I'm really excited to put my skills to use for the team itself and just work with the coaches here as well.

00:53 And hopefully it will be an exciting season for everybody to watch.

00:57 And tell me a bit about your skill set and the position you play on the court.

01:00 So, I play power forward or center. I like playing with my back to the basket.

01:07 I like being physical, but I can stretch the floor or drive as well.

01:12 So, hopefully that will help the team and my skills will be used.
