00:00 - If you're looking for the next festival to attend,
00:02 this one is one you're gonna wanna hear about,
00:05 and it's gonna be on your top list.
00:06 - Oh, absolutely.
00:08 So Alice Cooper has invited an all-star cast of performers
00:12 to put on a show you won't forget.
00:14 And best of all, this gives back in an amazing way.
00:17 Here to tell us all about it is Randy Spencer.
00:20 Welcome, Randy, thanks for being here.
00:21 - Yeah, thank you for having us.
00:22 - Absolutely, this is so cool.
00:24 And talk about an all-star lineup.
00:26 - Yeah. - Man, oh man.
00:27 - We were just seeing that.
00:28 And Randy, we have to realize,
00:30 Alice Cooper is inviting all his friends
00:32 to benefit the Solid Rock Foundation, which is cool.
00:34 I know he has his golf tournament
00:35 and different things like this.
00:36 And that's why this festival is kinda neat,
00:39 because you're gonna have, like she said,
00:41 this list of rock stars out there.
00:43 - If anyone's ever been to our Christmas Pudding Concert,
00:45 which is a very popular event,
00:47 Coopstock is a lot like Christmas Pudding
00:49 with a large stage on a golf course
00:50 with rock and roll stars and teens performing.
00:53 We have Tommy Thayer of Kiss,
00:55 Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon,
00:57 Orionthi, Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees.
00:59 - Wow. - Patrick Warburton
01:00 from Seinfeld's coming out.
01:01 It's gonna be an amazing night.
01:03 - I mean, this sounds like we were saying,
01:04 all-star lineup, it's all of Alice Cooper's friends.
01:07 It's just gonna be a great event.
01:08 But they also have the kids out there
01:10 doing stuff too, right?
01:11 - Yeah, we have kids performing dance
01:12 and they're actually creating art for the event.
01:15 They help out, they volunteer, they perform music.
01:18 And the kids are very, very engaged in the event,
01:20 preparing year-round for it.
01:21 - Yeah. - Wow.
01:22 - Let's talk about the Solid Rock Foundation,
01:23 because this is something that Alice Cooper saw
01:27 that was very much needed in the community,
01:30 not just in Phoenix, but also on Mesa too.
01:32 - Yeah, so we started our first teen center
01:34 14 years ago in Phoenix at 32nd Street in Thunderbird.
01:38 We're a safe space for teens to spend their time,
01:40 ages 12 to 20, no restrictions.
01:43 And they can learn music, art, and dance completely for free.
01:46 And we opened up our second teen center in Mesa
01:49 about three and a half years ago.
01:50 And we're getting ready to open up in good years.
01:53 - Wow. - Later on this year.
01:54 - That's amazing. - Oh, I didn't know
01:55 you guys had another one coming up to open.
01:57 - Super excited.
01:58 So every three to four years,
01:59 our goal is to open a new center.
02:00 So we'll be opening in Goodyear, Litchfield Park,
02:02 in Van Buren in about four months.
02:04 - I love it. - Wow, that's so cool.
02:05 - And again, this is a safe place for the kids to go
02:08 and do what they love doing.
02:10 And that's what's so amazing here.
02:12 And it doesn't really cost the kids anything.
02:13 That's why this event is so important.
02:15 - Well, it doesn't cost them anything at all.
02:17 I mean, this is totally for free
02:18 for the kids to come out and work with you guys, right?
02:20 - Yeah, our teen centers are open every year.
02:22 Teen centers are open Monday through Friday,
02:24 two to seven-thirty.
02:25 Everything is 100% free.
02:26 A kid can take a nap, hang out in a recording studio,
02:29 have a free lunch, hang out,
02:31 and just have a safe space to build friendships,
02:34 discover their passion,
02:35 and maybe become a future news anchor like you guys.
02:37 - There you go.
02:38 - 'Cause we have a filmmaking class.
02:39 - Yeah, oh, I didn't know that.
02:41 Well, as somebody who grew up as a music kid for sure,
02:44 and I know both Brad and I are,
02:46 this would have been something
02:48 that would have been a huge deal to have access to
02:50 as a kid, so I know this is really special.
02:52 - It's a life changer.
02:53 We have a lot of kids going on to become full-time musicians,
02:57 getting jobs at the Phoenix Suns,
02:59 getting college scholarships,
03:00 graduating from ASU and all across the country,
03:03 and it's real exciting to see kids get impacted
03:06 and grow at our centers.
03:07 - And I think the one problem you guys have
03:09 with the Solid Rock Foundation
03:10 is that you can't keep Alice Cooper out of there.
03:13 So you have people that put their names on something
03:15 and they don't show up.
03:16 It's the opposite with Atlas.
03:18 We're literally, you guys are like,
03:19 "Alice, you know what, you've been here all day long.
03:21 "Go home, get some rest."
03:22 - Go home to your family.
03:23 - Go see your family.
03:24 But he's there making sure that these kids
03:25 are getting the education and stuff they want
03:27 in the fields they're looking at.
03:28 - Yeah, when Alice and Cheryl are in town,
03:30 you'll see them in the recording studio,
03:32 listening to music, playing ping pong with the kids,
03:34 giving lyric input, doing dance classes with the kids,
03:38 calling them on the road, giving input.
03:39 They are very involved, hands-on in the organization.
03:42 - That's so cool.
03:43 Well, I wanna hear a little bit more really quickly
03:45 about how we get tickets for the event.
03:47 - Yes, so you go to alicecoopersolidrock.com/events
03:51 and it'll take you to a link on Eventbrite.
03:53 Or if you go to Eventbrite and you search Alice Cooper,
03:56 there's three different ticket tiers
03:58 and you can come out on April 13th.
04:00 The events at Los Indos Golf Club starts at 5 p.m.
04:03 And again, we have a rock and roll who's who.
04:05 - Yeah.
04:06 - It's a lineup.
04:07 It's an incredible lineup for sure.
04:08 - And I will say, I'm sorry, Randa, I have to do this.
04:11 You're gonna wanna go because you don't know
04:13 who else might show up.
04:14 They give you the list there.
04:15 And that's what's so great about this
04:16 is that I didn't, like he plays with Johnny Depp.
04:19 You know, he plays with Slash, all these guys
04:22 that I remember going to something
04:23 and they all showed up for him.
04:25 And so you never know.
04:25 That's why you go to these events.
04:27 - We do often have a lot of surprise guests, you know,
04:29 but it's all about the teens.
04:30 The teens are remarkable and they perform phenomenal
04:32 at the event.
04:33 And you'll see teens on stage with Tommy Thayer
04:35 and Mickey Dolenz in the Monkees.
04:37 And you'll see donors on stage
04:38 singing background vocals for all that.
04:40 - Do you need some more background vocalists?
04:43 I mean, Brad and I will volunteer.
04:44 (imitates vocalizing)
04:46 - We're ready.
04:46 Put us on, put us on.
04:47 - You know your school's out for summer.
04:50 (imitates vocalizing)
04:51 - Yeah, how's that?
04:52 - We're ready.
04:53 - Yeah, we're ready.
04:53 Tune down to D, we're on.
04:54 (laughing)
04:56 - Well, the information's right there on the screen
04:58 on how you can get more information about Cooperstock.
05:00 And of course, it'll be over on azdailymix.com.
05:03 Thank you very much, Randy.
05:04 - Great, thank you. - All right.
