00:00 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Colgate by Bader

00:10 Smile Fest is part of Colgate's Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program that has, to date,
00:16 provided access to resources and tools to encourage healthy habits early on for more
00:20 than 1.7 billion children worldwide.
00:23 We asked Sonia Azad to stop in on the huge celebration that just took place in Rogers,
00:29 Arkansas.
00:30 Ready to meet the kids?
00:33 I'm so ready, let's go!
00:36 Let's do it!
00:37 Former Arkansas Razorbacks guard and NFL draft prospect Brady Latham partnered with Colgate
00:42 Paul Mollett for Smile Fest, which is part of the Colgate's Bright Smiles, Bright Futures
00:47 program.
00:48 Yeah!
00:49 As an athlete, your body means everything.
00:51 Without your body, you can't do the things you love to do.
00:54 But same with kids, they love to play, they love to run around, play tag.
00:57 And without a healthy body, they can't do that.
00:59 And so that starts with your mouth.
01:01 This whole event has given us an opportunity to really showcase that, but in a fun way.
01:05 The one thing I want them to really remember is the magic number of two.
01:09 Right?
01:10 Brushing your teeth twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste, brushing for two minutes, and
01:15 trying to visit a dental provider twice a year.
01:18 Those things can set them up for a lifetime of success.
01:21 Bright Smiles, Bright Futures is Colgate Paul Mollett Company's global oral health education
01:26 initiative, established to improve the health, education, and well-being of children and
01:31 their families.
01:33 The program maintains a fleet of mobile dental vans based in hub cities.
01:38 They travel to hundreds of cities and towns each year.
01:41 During the dental screenings, we check for the child's oral hygiene, how well they're
01:46 brushing, and we also check their dental health.
01:49 The child brings home the dental report card that notes all their needs.
01:53 When we get started early, we develop these habits early on, so then they carry on with
01:58 these habits as they get older.
01:59 Cavities are the number one chronic health disease in children.
02:03 The Surgeon General's report, a national call to action to promote oral health, indicates
02:07 more than 51 million school hours are lost every year because of dental-related illness.
02:14 I want the kids today to leave empowered in order to take care of their health.
02:19 It takes us one organization at a time, one kid at a time, making an impact in our community,
02:24 and we will see those numbers get better in the state of Arkansas.
02:27 The energy that we have and the commitment we have to making a difference, we've been
02:31 running the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program since 1991, reaching billions of kids
02:36 worldwide, and it all starts with our commitment and connecting one-to-one with kids.
02:41 It's really nice that I get to give back with dental hygiene.
02:43 It's important for them to be confident, have a good smile, so they're just excited.
02:46 It was easy to get them hooting and hollering and all that stuff.
02:51 Bright Smiles, Bright Futures has reached more than 1.7 billion children and families
02:56 in over 100 countries.
02:59 This is Sonia Azad in Rogers, Arkansas.
