00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:05 And today, get ready for the games.
00:09 From the Westgate Entertainment District, it's the Special Olympic Guardian Games.
00:13 Presented by Sanderson Ford, benefiting Special Olympics Arizona.
00:18 [MUSIC]
00:27 Good morning. >> Good morning.
00:30 >> Welcome to Arizona Daily Mix.
00:32 I am Brad Perry. >> I'm Lexi Romano.
00:34 >> And we are here at Westgate for the 6th annual Torch Run Guardian Games.
00:39 >> For the Sanderson Ford Guardian Games, the 6th annual.
00:42 This is so exciting.
00:44 Yeah, and they're gonna do the Torch Run here coming up.
00:46 >> Yeah, so they're gonna be bringing the torch or light.
00:48 We're looking out, everyone's getting together.
00:50 This is awesome that we're out here. >> This is incredible.
00:52 Yeah, it's a really, really beautiful day.
00:54 It's sunny, it's not too hot yet.
00:56 But the music is going down.
00:58 Oh, no, it's coming back.
00:59 All right, we got a little bit more time here.
01:01 I thought we were about to start.
01:02 Yeah, but this is a great event.
01:04 There's so many people involved.
01:05 As you can see, it's super busy out here at Westgate.
01:08 Tons of people going on, hanging out.
01:11 I mean, this is my second year coming out here.
01:14 How many times have you been out here, Brad?
01:16 >> So this is kind of like my third, fourth in a way.
01:18 So I'm doing this, which is awesome.
01:20 There's games they're playing.
01:21 It's all to benefit the Special Olympics today.
01:23 >> Absolutely.
01:24 >> And this is where businesses and the community come together to support them playing games.
01:29 And we have our own game.
01:30 We're going to be playing Family Feud.
01:31 >> We do.
01:32 >> Of course, with our man, Steve Harvey.
01:33 >> Yeah, and, well, I have some cool facts about the teams that are out here today.
01:37 So each team consists of one Special Olympics athlete, one law enforcement officer, and two sponsored participants.
01:44 And they're going through eight fun events all here at Westgate.
01:48 And they're going to be playing the Phoenix Suns basketball.
01:52 They're going to be doing Arizona Cardinals quarterback toss, the Arizona Diamondbacks home run derby.
01:57 And like Brad was saying, we also have our Family Feud.
02:00 And this is all in the hopes of raising $100,000 for the Special Olympics.
02:05 So it's for a really great cause.
02:06 >> It is, and that money gets spread across Arizona, so not just here in Phoenix, which is really great to give those athletes a chance to participate.
02:14 And also support some of the different events and stuff they do around Arizona, which is amazing.
02:19 >> Yeah, it's really cool.
02:21 Really great event, really fun.
02:23 And, you know, we love being out here every year.
02:25 I'm going to get to talk with Curtis a little bit later from the CW.
02:28 We're going to talk a little bit about our involvement.
02:30 And I hear there's an exciting announcement that's going to happen there kind of toward the end.
02:34 So that will be really fun.
02:36 >> Yeah, and, of course, pretty much our athletes.
02:39 That's going to be awesome, too.
02:40 We're going to have them on, talk with them.
02:41 It's really nice and stuff.
02:42 >> Yeah, definitely.
02:43 We have a packed show with a lot of great people.
02:45 >> Weather's going to be nice.
02:46 We're looking at 80-some degrees today as a high, which is amazing.
02:49 >> Yes, which is so nice.
02:50 It is kind of warm even here standing in the sun, but it's beautiful out.
02:54 >> Yeah, this jacket will be coming off in just a few as we get ready for this.
02:57 But what I love is that the community is out here from, of course, small businesses to big businesses.
03:03 >> Yep.
03:04 >> Samson Ford, who is a big sponsor of this because it means a lot to them.
03:06 >> Absolutely.
03:07 >> Which is so great.
03:08 >> But we also have Mattamy Home sponsoring.
03:10 >> It's a great --
03:11 >> It's a great --
03:12 >> Yeah, it's a great group.
03:13 Maddie, if you pan around, too, you can see so many people are out here today.
03:16 This is just a really awesome event.
03:19 Lots of law enforcement.
03:21 You can see people getting ready for the Phoenix Suns basketball over there.
03:25 Just a beautiful day at a beautiful location.
03:28 Westgate is so great.
03:29 So many local spots, so many great hot spots out here to come and enjoy.
03:35 And this is a great spot to have it.
03:37 This is the sixth year.
03:39 >> It is.
03:40 >> Sounds like they're getting started.
03:42 >> That is actually Tim Hatton from iHeart, who is emceeing the event, which is really great.
03:47 And, again, they're up on the bridge.
03:49 I think we have some up there now.
03:50 But as you hear them getting ready to start the event and bring the torch in, which is going to be awesome.
03:56 >> And what about the torch run, Brad?
03:58 I mean, this is the second time I'm seeing it, the fourth time you've seen it.
04:01 >> Oh, my God, it's still amazing to watch the athletes run this torch in and light the flame for these games.
04:07 So right now we're going to stop for a moment and listen in.

07:02 >> Welcome back to the Arizona Daily Mix.
07:04 I'm your host, Brad Bell.
07:06 And I'm here with Lexi Luton, who is the torch runner for the 6th annual Special Olympics torch.
07:13 Thanks for your support and some great, of course, sponsors.
07:17 And Lexi, we have someone who knows firsthand how important this is to our law enforcement community.
07:21 >> Yeah, absolutely.
07:22 So, Lieutenant Scott, thank you so much for being here with us today.
07:25 We're honored to chat with you.
07:26 Let's talk a little bit about what you guys do with the torch lighting and just the whole situation.
07:31 Tell me a little bit about it.
07:32 >> Sure. So, we have a lot of people that come out here to support our sportsmanship.
07:36 We love our athletes.
07:37 So, Guardian Games is our way to come out here and really support them.
07:40 So, we have over 50 officers throughout the state that come and partner with these athletes.
07:45 We'll start with the torch lighting.
07:47 The Peoria Police Chief is going to light the torch with our athlete.
07:51 And then we break out in the games where we'll hold one of our own as law enforcement.
07:54 >> And this is so cool because this is something that, you know, in the Olympics, the Special Olympics,
07:59 it's the way that the sport is being curated, that this is the games have begun.
08:03 So, it's really special that we do this here for the Guardian Games.
08:06 But you do it all across the United States for other Special Olympics as well, right?
08:09 >> Absolutely.
08:10 So, I would say not even the United States.
08:12 It's become international.
08:13 >> Oh, wow.
08:14 >> Law enforcement torch run is.
08:15 Just this last year, we hit the billion-dollar mark.
08:18 Law enforcement torch run has raised over a billion dollars for Special Olympics.
08:21 And that's -- the money is great, but it's the time that we have with these athletes.
08:26 And the friendships and the partnerships that we build with them, that's why we're out here.
08:29 >> That's so cool.
08:30 >> So, anything that we can do for these athletes, we'll do it.
08:32 >> Definitely.
08:33 >> And what's important, too, is that it's all the law enforcement throughout Arizona come together to do this.
08:38 >> Yeah, I've seen people here already from Tucson, the Valley-wide.
08:42 They come from Sedona, Flaxsafe, you name it, from this state.
08:45 And they're here supporting these athletes.
08:47 >> And the big part is that literally these are officers who are taking their day off to come do this.
08:52 And even when you have to tell someone, like, we have enough.
08:55 >> Yeah, unfortunately, that's the hardest part.
08:57 I know for, like, our agency, we put it out, hey, we need this many volunteers.
09:00 And in an hour and a half, I'm having to turn people away.
09:03 And that's what we want to see.
09:04 >> And then your officers stay and continue to participate throughout the day, right?
09:08 >> Absolutely.
09:09 They're here all day.
09:10 They're partnering with these athletes.
09:11 They'll have lunch with them.
09:13 You really start to build those friendships and those bonds.
09:15 >> Oh, man.
09:16 And that's what it's about.
09:17 We're all out here to have a great time, to enjoy, and to empower these athletes
09:21 and to make these great relationships and these connections.
09:24 >> That's what makes Guardian Games so special.
09:26 >> Yeah.
09:27 >> I would say, you know, these athletes, they look up to us.
09:30 They look at us like heroes.
09:32 To us, they're the heroes.
09:34 They see us do dangerous things, courage.
09:37 They show courage every day.
09:38 Every day when they get up, they're being courageous.
09:40 So we learn from them more than they ever learn from us.
09:43 >> Yeah, and that's the big part about being out here.
09:46 And, you know, even though, you know, we have our team's field, you still can come out and cheer them on,
09:50 which you always want to do, especially also find out more information about how you can participate.
09:53 For the Special Olympics, in different ways, volunteering, donating, we have information on aztv.com,
09:59 but also going to the official site for the Guardian Games is another way, too.
10:04 >> Yeah, absolutely.
10:05 Going to Guardian Games, the law enforcement torch run, if you look it up,
10:08 there's so many ways that you can volunteer, either financially or, like you said,
10:13 just come out and support these athletes and be a part of it.
10:16 Anything you can do will help.
10:17 >> That's really cool.
10:18 And it sounds like we have the torch lighting happening right now.
10:21 >> And we're going to turn it over that way.
10:23 Let's take a look.
10:24 >> Yeah, let's go check it out.

12:06 >> Welcome back to the "Design Daily Mix."
12:08 We are live at Westgate for the 6th Annual Sanderson Ford Torch Run Special Olympics competition going on out here.
12:16 And I'm with the man, the myth, the legend himself, Dave.
12:18 How are you?
12:19 >> Wonderful.
12:20 This is -- you know, I know you're part of the Chamber of Commerce down here, but picking a day like this, you have really hit it out of the park.
12:26 >> Thank you.
12:27 That's -- being a former weatherman, I'm good at it.
12:29 >> I know you are.
12:30 You've got an inside track.
12:31 >> I love it.
12:32 And you're making this a family affair because you brought your beautiful wife with you?
12:35 >> My wife, Jill, yes.
12:36 We're very excited to be involved with Special Olympics.
12:40 And when you have law enforcement involved and Channel 7, CW7, oh, my gosh, it doesn't get any better than that.
12:50 >> You know what I love about you and the Sanderson Ford family is that it's not just about selling cars.
12:55 It's about being in the community in a lot of different ways.
12:57 And you said it right there, supporting the police officers and the Special Olympics.
13:01 And that's what Sanderson Ford has always been in this community, hasn't it?
13:04 >> Absolutely.
13:05 It's so important.
13:06 You know, we've been so blessed over 68 years, our 69th year is coming up.
13:11 And to be able to do this and when you look at the faces of all these Special Olympians, we walked in today and they're just flying, just jumping off the ground.
13:21 They can't wait.
13:22 And then to have law enforcement involved also, it just is the epitome of special in Special Olympics.
13:29 >> We see them jumping up and down, too.
13:31 That's the great thing about it.
13:32 So we have two groups here jumping up and down having a good time.
13:34 Dave, you said it again, this is very important to you all because you have staff members that have children who are with the Special Olympics.
13:41 And that's why this is even more important to you, isn't it?
13:43 >> Absolutely.
13:44 It really, you see the importance.
13:47 You know, when we had COVID, they couldn't go out and compete.
13:51 And that's their life.
13:52 They love to compete, whatever they do.
13:54 And then now that we have that's over, we have this all your support.
14:00 And then a beautiful day like this, it just doesn't get any better.
14:04 >> I like it.
14:05 And the goal is $100,000 that will be spread out throughout Arizona for Special Olympics.
14:10 And I'll tell you, I think we're going to do over that, I have a feeling.
14:13 >> I do, too.
14:14 I think, you know, we've asked for people to come out and just understand what this is about.
14:19 But when they see these young people that get to participate, and especially with law enforcement, it will just give a special meaning to what Special Olympics is all about.
14:29 >> It is.
14:30 And we want you to come out.
14:31 We're out here until about 11 o'clock.
14:32 Come and enjoy us.
14:33 Or if you want to help out, you can go right to that website on aztv.com to help out with the Guardian Games and, of course, Special Olympics, which is great.
14:42 So come on back.
14:43 We got more of the mix for you from Westgate after this.
14:47 [ Music ]
15:00 >> This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
15:03 [ Music ]
15:10 >> All right, you guys, we are out here at the 6th Annual Sanderson Ford Guardian Games.
15:15 Brad, I mean, it's such a great day out here.
15:17 It's beautiful.
15:18 It's not too hot yet.
15:19 I mean, how are you feeling?
15:20 >> I'm feeling great.
15:21 It's like a reunion, too.
15:22 I get to see some of the law enforcement officers from the community.
15:24 I get to see some of the athletes.
15:25 And then, of course, the businesses that have come together to support this.
15:28 >> Absolutely.
15:29 Every single person keeps coming up to Brad and being like, "Brad, Brad, Brad."
15:32 Brad knows everybody.
15:33 But this is a great day.
15:34 It's beautiful out here.
15:36 Yeah, we're kind of just hanging out, kind of enjoying everything.
15:39 I know we're going to go check out some of the games after this.
15:41 Brad, who did you just talk with?
15:43 >> So, that was Javier.
15:45 And also, oh, Dave.
15:46 I talked to Dave from Sanderson Ford and some other, again, TV media out here.
15:50 We're all coming together for Special Olympics.
15:52 You said about games.
15:53 I'm going to take off right now because I think there's a game waiting for me to play.
15:56 So, that's where I'm heading right now.
15:57 >> All right, you head over there to play the game.
15:59 I have a very special guest who I'm so excited to introduce you all to.
16:03 So, this is Jamie Heckerman.
16:04 She is the President and CEO of the Special Olympics.
16:08 Jamie, thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us.
16:10 >> No, we're so excited to have a beautiful day like this for our event.
16:13 >> It is so gorgeous.
16:14 Brad and I were just saying it's not too hot.
16:17 It's sunny, but it's gorgeous out here.
16:19 So, I want to talk a little bit about the Special Olympics and some history behind it because it's such a beautiful story.
16:25 >> Yes, so Special Olympics was started by Eunice Kennedy Shriver back in Chicago, Illinois over 50 years ago.
16:32 And it started in Arizona in 1975.
16:35 So, we're almost at our 50th year next year.
16:37 >> Wow, 50 years and it's doing so much good.
16:40 You guys just bring so many people together and just raise spirits and do so much for these athletes.
16:46 So, it's really beautiful.
16:47 Tell me a little bit about your story and how you got involved.
16:50 >> Yeah, I started volunteering when I was in Tucson.
16:53 I got involved in a bowling league and I just found out that I really love the community that comes together around Special Olympics.
16:59 Our athletes are amazing.
17:00 You've probably seen them out here today.
17:02 And being able to put on sports and competition and letting them shine and have that opportunity, it really means the world to us and the community, I think, as well.
17:11 >> Definitely.
17:12 That's so cool.
17:13 And this is such a special event out here today.
17:16 Tell me a little bit about the Guardian Games that we're here today and just kind of what it means for everybody to be out here.
17:22 >> Yeah, it started, this is our 6th annual Guardian Games out here at Westgate.
17:26 Sanderson Ford came to us with this idea to bring the community in and our law enforcement officers and agencies to experience our athletes.
17:34 And so, as a part of the events today, all of our athletes, law enforcement, and community will be on teams together competing at different stations.
17:42 And not only that, it brings out different organizations in the community like the Cardinals, the Suns, of course, I-Hearts, and some of the others.
17:50 It's really great to see them come together.
17:52 >> And you know what, speaking of that, I love that we have a special Olympic athlete, a law enforcement, and then several of the sponsors all together on a team.
17:59 Everyone gets to participate together.
18:01 And speaking of which, I think Brad is over there checking out a game right now.
18:04 So, Brad, how are you doing?
18:06 Are you winning?
18:07 Are you losing?
18:08 Tell us all about it.
18:09 >> All right.
18:10 We are over here at the Suns basketball area.
18:13 And we have the different teams out here, the Coyotes, the Suns, the Diamondbacks, the Cardinals, everybody's out here.
18:18 But one group that's out here that's so important, that is the I-Heart team here.
18:22 So, we're with -- you know, Tim and Priscilla are emceeing this event.
18:25 I'll be talking with them later on.
18:26 But I want to talk to some of you behind the microphone.
18:30 Or I guess -- no, not behind the microphone, in front of the microphone.
18:32 I don't know.
18:33 But this is the staff here.
18:34 Way behind.
18:35 But this is so great.
18:36 How awesome is this for you guys to be a part of this?
18:37 >> It's amazing.
18:38 We do this every single year.
18:39 It's probably our group's -- one of our favorite events to do.
18:42 It's just so heartwarming.
18:43 And, you know, we're grateful to be able to be out here.
18:45 >> And that's what I love about I-Heart is that they get involved in whatever community the stations are in.
18:50 And this one has been really big because you have Tim and Priscilla who really want to be a part of this.
18:54 And I know other DJs, you have to, like -- no, someone has to stay there and work a little bit.
18:57 >> That's true.
18:58 Yes, we did leave some talent back home to run those radio stations.
19:01 But it's great that some of our folks, you know, make this a part of their day.
19:04 >> And seeing the kids, that's the big part there of seeing them light up.
19:08 Especially you guys play this game that it's kind of interesting.
19:10 The kids know all the songs and stuff.
19:12 >> Yes.
19:13 We do a game called "Beat Shazam."
19:14 We do it in partnership with Sanderson Ford.
19:16 And you have to guess the song.
19:18 And I feel like I never know anything, but the kids know it like that, which is just so cool to see.
19:23 >> We're going to go over there and play that in just a little bit.
19:25 I'm going to let you guys get back to playing and having some fun here.
19:27 And that's what it's about.
19:28 And what happens is that all the teams come together and they move around into different spots here.
19:33 And one is the basketball one, which I do have to give my -- is he doing it back?
19:37 No.
19:38 Oh.
19:39 Oh, let's see if he gets it there.
19:41 Yeah!
19:43 Oh, man!
19:45 That's what we're talking about.
19:46 I was just going to come and try one-hander.
19:48 So let me see if I can.
19:50 This is the thing right here.
19:51 You know, let me just see what's happening here.
19:54 Let me -- anyways, that's why I'm the host, not basketball player.
19:59 So it's fun.
20:00 But speaking of basketball, you know what's going on, and that is the NCAA tournament's happening.
20:05 Kicked off yesterday with our University of Arizona winning.
20:09 And that means we want you to Lopes up, everyone, because if you're ready to take care of the bracket,
20:16 we got it for you because the Valley Zone GCU Lopes are going to the tournament tonight.
20:22 That's right.
20:23 Their number 12 seed takes on number 5 seed St. Mary's.
20:26 Yesterday our cameras were there and spoke in Washington as the Lopes took to the practice floor in preparation for tonight's game.
20:32 This is the Lopes' third appearance in the tourney in the last four years,
20:36 and Coach Bryce Drew has the team fired up and ready on all cylinders,
20:40 looking for the Lopes to force a lot of turnovers tonight,
20:43 and they're hoping for some big numbers for their guards, Tyrone Grant-Foster, who is their top scorer,
20:48 and Raysawn Harrison, who leads the team with assets -- assists.
20:53 Sorry, there's so much going on out here.
20:54 It's going to be an exciting one to watch.
20:56 Tip-off is tonight at 7:05, so check your Lopes listing or streaming, and come on, everybody.
21:01 Go Lopes.
21:02 So there you go.
21:03 All right, come on back.
21:04 We've got more for you from Westgate and the Guardian Games Torch event.
21:10 Come on back.
21:11 [Music]
21:33 Hey, hey, hey.
21:34 Welcome back.
21:35 We are out here at the sixth annual Sanderson-Ford Guardian Games,
21:39 and as you can tell, we are here at the Diamondbacks home run derby over here.
21:44 Before I get into chatting a little bit with my special guest here,
21:47 Grady, check out the game a little bit because our athletes are crushing it out there.
21:52 This is the home run derby, like I said.
21:55 This is all about the D-backs, so, of course, they're out here hitting.
21:59 They're getting some great pitches.
22:00 It just looks like a blast, and everybody is having a great time.
22:05 But let's go ahead and chat a little bit with our special guest here.
22:08 This is Eric Figueroa.
22:09 Eric, thank you so much for being with us.
22:11 Tell us a little bit about what you guys are doing out here today.
22:14 Sure, yeah.
22:15 So this is my third year coming out to this event.
22:17 Every year I come out, it's absolutely amazing having our baseball academy staff out here,
22:21 our youth baseball ambassadors and youth academy coaches,
22:24 just being able to provide the basic instruction for these kids
22:27 and really just showing them the ropes to the game
22:30 and really just having them fall in love with a game that we all love, which is baseball.
22:33 Definitely.
22:34 It's such a special event, just the whole event today, everything going on with the Guardian Games.
22:38 I mean, what does it mean to you to get to see these athletes coming out here
22:41 and hitting and pitching and just having a great time?
22:44 Absolutely.
22:45 So these kids have the passion, as you can see.
22:46 They're making contact.
22:47 They're having fun.
22:48 They're smiling.
22:49 So anytime they hit the baseball, they're super excited.
22:51 And, again, just being able to provide the instruction for these kids,
22:54 which they probably never get day to day, is pretty awesome.
22:57 And we do this on a daily basis throughout the whole year.
22:59 So for us to come out and be able to spend time with them for at least one day for a few hours
23:03 and provide that instruction, it's awesome.
23:05 It really is.
23:06 And, you know, I heard tell that there might be a little bit of a special guest appearance maybe at some point.
23:13 We'll see.
23:15 I have not been told that information, but it will be a surprise to me as well.
23:18 But, you know, we're always having our players and coaches come out to events like this,
23:22 so I would not be surprised.
23:23 Well, we got a home run winner right here.
23:26 You hit a home run?
23:27 Yeah.
23:28 Yeah.
23:29 Congratulations.
23:31 All right.
23:32 Well, Steve, these are the kind of things that you see when you come out here to the Sanderson Ford Guardian Games.
23:36 This is so special and so awesome.
23:38 Yeah, Eric, don't leave us just quite yet.
23:40 I was going to ask you a little bit more just about what it means to have the Diamondbacks sponsoring this.
23:45 I mean, how much are they involved?
23:47 Obviously it's all kind of decked out in the gear.
23:50 What does that mean exactly?
23:51 Yeah, definitely.
23:52 You know, having our brand out here, you know, obviously Sanderson Ford is one of our partners with Arizona Diamondbacks,
23:57 so being able to come out and support our partner in Sanderson Ford and having our brand, our image out here,
24:03 you know, you see our banners hung up, we're all decked out in D-backs gear.
24:06 So when these kids see us, you know, the presence out here at the Diamondbacks,
24:10 ultimately they want to, you know, have that big league dreaming experience
24:13 and hopefully, you know, one day be in our shoes, whether it's working for the front office or being a player on the field.
24:17 That's very cool.
24:18 Being involved with the Diamondbacks in any way and having all of these logos out here, it definitely hypes everybody up,
24:23 makes everybody really excited to be out here.
24:25 So we're going to let the athletes keep on playing back there, keep on enjoying, keep on hitting those home runs
24:32 like you saw just a second ago from our special athletes.
24:34 They're doing a great job.
24:47 Welcome back to the Arizona Daily Mix.
24:49 We are live here at Westgate for the Sanderson Ford Police Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics.
24:56 And I have two special people with me, which are awesome, and that is Mr. Tim from Canahex
25:01 and Priscilla from the Mix 96.9.
25:03 How are you doing?
25:04 Fantastic. How are you?
25:06 I'm so awesome because, again, this is like a reunion in a way.
25:09 I get to see Tim, I get to see my law officer friends, but we also get to see those Special Olympic athletes
25:15 who are just amazing, and this is like their time to come out and shine.
25:18 It's the best time of year to be in the Valley, and this time of year we always have the Guardian Games here at Westgate.
25:24 Yeah, there's all these fun activities for the athletes to go through,
25:28 but between them and all of their law enforcement partners, it's just a great vibe.
25:32 Priscilla said it earlier, she loves the aesthetic out here.
25:36 It's fun.
25:37 It's a good aesthetic, the vibes are good, the energy's on point, and the athletes are amazing.
25:42 We're having such a good time.
25:43 This is your second year doing this, so I've got to ask you, last year, how much fun did you have?
25:49 It was a blast. In fact, I don't know if you know this, but my younger sister is autistic,
25:54 and I am going to bring her next year.
25:56 This year it didn't work out, but I'm for sure bringing her because she would enjoy it so much.
26:00 You know how important the Special Olympics are to families and how raising the money out here and us doing this,
26:04 it's going to benefit not just, as we said, here in the Valley, but all across Arizona.
26:08 Yeah, absolutely. Environments like this and events like this really make people like my sister feel included
26:15 and involved and like they belong, and that's why I love Sanderson Ford
26:18 and all they're doing for these special athletes.
26:20 And you guys are doing, I think, the coolest game next--well, mine is better.
26:23 Anyways, I'm sorry, I had to say it. Mine's Family Feud.
26:26 But you guys are doing--why do you say it like that? Why are you doing that?
26:29 I just--you're a natural. I mean, of course, Family Feud is probably--
26:33 you're going to take over for Steve Harvey, from what I hear.
26:35 That's right. I'm your man.
26:37 You guys are getting into, of course, Sanderson Ford boards and playing a game.
26:42 Yeah, we play 10 songs, little clips of 10 songs with DJ Smiles, and they have to--we call it Beat Shazam,
26:48 but it's basically name that tune.
26:50 They write down the name of the song and the artist, and it's a mix of everything.
26:53 It's the kind of music I play on KNIX. It's Priscilla's music.
26:56 It's what's on Priscilla's secret playlist. She's kind of Beyonce. I don't know if you know that.
27:01 And people write down the songs, and we all have a good time, so it all happens right here at Beat Shazam
27:06 at the Guardian Games.
27:07 And what's really cool is that the athletes are so quick, better than the other team members that are with them,
27:14 the businesses and stuff.
27:15 I know. I've been in radio for, what, 12 years, and I think they know some of the songs better than I do.
27:19 To be honest, they do such a great job.
27:22 All right, now this is the question I have. Since we're here, we can go ahead and say,
27:25 all right, we know we're going to hear Texas Hold 'Em. I know.
27:28 But is it coming from the mix, or is it coming from KNIX?
27:31 That's a great question. That's probably the best question you've ever asked in your entire career.
27:35 Thank you.
27:36 We're playing Texas Hold 'Em on KNIX, and of course, they're playing with the mix.
27:41 So what I'll say is that I have passed the torch on to Tim, and I'm giving him permission to play Beyonce on KNIX.
27:49 I'm just kidding. That's what I love about her, what she said. She's Beyonce. She can do it all.
27:53 All right, so this is what I'm asking right now of you, Priscilla.
27:55 All right, because I love following you on Instagram, is that will you today have Tim do the Beyonce Texas Hold 'Em dance
28:05 and show it up on a reel or something like that?
28:08 I am going to do my very best, and that'll be my mission for today.
28:12 This ain't Texas.
28:14 Well, we're having a good time out here. Come on back.
28:18 We have more for you from Westgate and the Samson Ford Police Torch event happening here.
28:24 Come on back.
28:26 [music]
28:48 All righty, all right. Welcome back to the 6th Annual Sanderson Ford Guardian Games.
28:54 We're so excited to be out here enjoying this beautiful day, beautiful weather, and of course, the beautiful activities that are going on.
29:01 And I'm standing here with two incredible people. One we introduced you to a little bit earlier.
29:05 This is Jamie, the president and CEO of the Special Olympics.
29:08 But I am going to talk a little bit with a close friend of mine, because we work together at Channel 7.
29:14 This is Curtis. He is our sales manager here at the CW7.
29:18 So, Curtis, we are so involved this year. It's a really great thing that we're doing out here.
29:22 Tell me a little bit about what it means to you to be out here this year.
29:25 Yeah, you know, Guardian Games is a great event.
29:28 It benefits a lot of different people in the community.
29:31 Special Olympics, Sanderson Ford has really come together and brought us together for this.
29:36 This is the third consecutive year doing this.
29:39 We've raised a lot of money for Special Olympics.
29:42 And it's just, you look at the people around us and everybody, and it's just an amazing event.
29:47 It does a lot for this community.
29:48 It really does, and we're so thankful to be out here.
29:51 Tell me a little bit about the game that we brought out this year, because this is really, really cool.
29:56 So, yes, we, Family Feud, we have live, and we're doing it live here.
30:01 So, we've got two teams, four competitors on each team.
30:05 You know, and it's a great opportunity for people to play in a fun and exciting environment.
30:10 You win, you lose, but some of the answers are priceless to hear.
30:13 And you've got these great Special Olympic athletes participating with law enforcement
30:18 and then some great community leaders also participating in it.
30:22 It's just an amazing event.
30:24 And what's really cool is we're doing the Family Feud particularly because we have it on our station.
30:29 So, I know we all know what to say when you know someone doesn't answer.
30:33 You do a good answer, good answer.
30:35 How have people been playing out here today?
30:37 Has it been a lot of energy?
30:38 Great answers, some great laughs.
30:41 It's been priceless, and we're just getting started, so it's fun.
30:44 Okay, well, this is so cool.
30:46 It's been a great day.
30:47 It's been so fun.
30:48 But, Curtis, I know you have something special that we want to kind of present to Jamie.
30:53 Jamie, we're not just going to leave you there.
30:54 We're going to present this really special thing.
30:56 So, tell me about what we're doing here.
30:57 Yes.
30:58 CW, as I said, CW7, we've been partners for the last three years.
31:03 We've got Jamie here from Special Olympics of Arizona.
31:07 We have this nice, wonderful check for $8,000 that I'd like to present to Special Olympics of Arizona.
31:14 We appreciate it.
31:15 [Applause]
31:16 It's exciting.
31:17 [Applause]
31:21 Of course, of course.
31:22 Thank you.
31:23 We appreciate it.
31:24 [Applause]
31:25 This is so beautiful.
31:26 Jamie, what does this mean to you to get this check today?
31:29 You know, programming is free for our athletes,
31:31 and so we have to raise all the money to ensure they have competitive opportunities.
31:35 So, this means the world that they can come out and be included in their communities.
31:39 Oh, man, this is so beautiful.
31:41 Curtis, tell me a little bit more about just what this means to you and kind of how these funds came together.
31:46 Yeah, you know, I have a daughter with special needs.
31:49 Jamie and I have known each other for almost a decade,
31:53 so we want to really try and give back to the people that matters most.
31:57 And so, this is just one of those great opportunities to help everybody out.
32:01 Well, it's so beautiful.
32:03 Thank you guys for being here and for telling us all about this.
32:05 But, hey, stick around, guys, because we've got more of The Daily Mix coming up after this.
32:10 [Music]

33:15 It's been awesome.
33:16 And the guy who put this all together with our game here that you've been seeing is Brian Susick.
33:21 Brian, come on in here. Woo!
33:24 Brian, this is our third year doing this with the game?
33:27 Yes, this is our third consecutive year doing the Guardian Games.
33:30 Love it. Absolutely love it.
33:31 And it's fun. You're playing the whole series like that.
33:33 But really quick, let's talk again.
33:35 Our lamps are amazing. Everything's good out here.
33:37 And you're excited, right?
33:38 Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
33:40 The teams that come out here have a lot of fun.
33:42 Family Feud being one of our biggest shows out there right now.
33:45 Everybody loves playing Family Feud.
33:46 Everybody comes together and just has a great time.
33:48 It goes along with a lot of the other great programs, obviously, that we have on the station as well.
33:51 But Family Feud, everybody loves playing this game.
33:53 Yeah, and it's a great game to add to today's games because there's so many great games going on here.
33:58 And the CW7 just presented a great check to the president and CEO of the Special Olympics.
34:04 So we're so honored to be out here today.
34:05 This has been really, really special.
34:07 Such a great day. Such great games, just including Family Feud.
34:10 And if you want to, you can come out over here to the Chicken and Pickle and watch the Family Feud game being played here live.
34:17 That's right.
34:18 And in about maybe 10 minutes, I'm going to be taking this microphone and handing it to this gentleman.
34:23 And he gets to host Family Feud for the rest of the morning.
34:25 So, yeah, if you're still out there, come on down.
34:27 Absolutely.
34:28 Hey, we want to thank our partners, Mattamy Holmes, Samson Ford, and Gilbert Indri-Loff.
34:33 Gilbert Indri-Loff, yeah.
34:34 Gilbert Indri-Loff for being a big part of this.
34:35 So it's awesome.
34:36 It's been a great day out here.
34:37 The weather is perfect.
34:38 We have some amazing athletes playing some awesome games.
34:41 It's just been a blast.
34:42 And we're so thankful to have you.
34:44 I love it. Group hug, everybody.
34:45 Have a good day. Have a good weekend.
34:48 Bye, everybody.
