There is more than meets the eye in this small town in Czech.
In the Slovak Republic’s submission for the Best International Feature Film Academy Awards 2023, VICTIM, political unrest, and xenophobia plague the lives of a Ukraine immigrant Irina, and her son. When Irina’s son is brutally assaulted, the town stands in solidarity with the two and condemns their Roma neighbors for the crime. As political campaigns and the prejudiced media of Czech continually distort reality, Irina is torn between protecting her family and searching for the truth but she has to make a fateful decision.
VICTIM was also nominated Best Film for the Venice Horizons Award at the Venice Film Festival, in 2022.
