00:00 China's presence is immediately felt in the start of the joint maritime resource assessment of BFAR
00:08 with experts in the Asa Islands.
00:12 Aside from the Chinese Navy ship's follow-up to the Philippine Coast Guard vessel,
00:16 there are also Chinese ships that have been spotted near the island.
00:22 J.P. Soriano is the one who was spotted.
00:25 J.P.?
00:26 [Pause]
00:30 Mel, here in the Asa Islands, we are now behind one of the two ships of BFAR
00:34 that is currently being used in the joint maritime resource assessment mission of BFAR
00:39 together with the PCG.
00:40 And on the journey of the PCG, Mel, from the mainland Palawan to Asa Islands,
00:45 a Chinese naval ship that jumped from the PCG vessel to Asa Islands was spotted.
00:53 [Pause]
00:57 Together with the Philippine Coast Guard Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR,
01:02 the group set out on Monday to Asa Islands for the maritime patrol mission and marine scientific research.
01:10 [Pause]
01:12 Around 10.45am on Tuesday morning, as the Asa Islands was approaching,
01:18 the Chinese naval ship suddenly jumped and seemed to be following the direction of the PCG vessels.
01:26 According to the Philippine Coast Guard, the Chinese naval ship was radioed by BRP Cabra and BRP Sindangan
01:33 but it did not respond.
01:35 But after an hour, it turned and changed direction.
01:41 Past 1am on Tuesday, the PCG vessels arrived at Asa Islands.
01:47 "Kapuso, what you see behind me is Asa Islands.
01:51 It is part of the Kalayaan Island Group and part of the province of Palawan.
01:56 So, in front of that, you can see the Chinese military militia vessels.
02:05 And they have been there for a long time.
02:07 You can see that it is steady and not moving."
02:09 According to the PCG, the Chinese military militia vessels reached Sham
02:15 and a Chinese Coast Guard was spotted near Asa Islands until Wednesday.
02:22 Until we arrived at Asa Islands and until yesterday,
02:26 the Chinese military militia vessels were still spotted in the vicinity of Asa Islands
02:31 and it became a Chinese Coast Guard ship.
02:35 Today, the BFAR started with marine researchers from the University of the Philippines
02:42 to conduct a joint maritime resource assessment on the Asa Cays.
02:46 Their mission is to find out the situation of the Cays.
02:49 Especially last year, there were spotted dead corals in San Dique 2
02:54 that the doubt did not come from the Asa Islands.
02:58 Aside from investigating the biodiversity of the Asa Islands,
03:03 one of the experts wanted to know
03:06 if the killing and crushing of corals was intentional.
03:11 "If those are really damp, it's true that those are really damp,
03:15 it will almost be above water already.
03:18 So actually, it's only part of the assessment.
03:21 We will be able to look into that area where there will be possibly
03:26 some damp corals that are not from that area.
03:28 But for now, we don't know."
03:30 The position of the Asa Islands and the San Diques in its vicinity is important
03:35 in the supply of fish and food to the entire Philippines.
03:39 That's why no country can stop the marine researchers
03:45 from exploring the Asa Islands.
03:48 "Pag-asa belongs to the Philippines.
03:50 So regardless whether they are there or they are not there,
03:53 we still have the sovereignty rights to do this kind of scientific research
03:59 that falls within the waters in Pag-asa Island."
04:08 "And Mel, this important mission of the BFAR is now over
04:12 with the marine researchers in San Diques 1 and 2.
04:16 And tomorrow, Mel and the other members will conduct their exploration
04:20 in San Diques 3 and 4.
04:23 And that's the latest and live from here in Pag-asa Island
04:26 and for GMA Integrated News.
04:28 Back to you, Mel."
04:29 Thank you very much, J.P. Soriano.
04:35 China has called for the illegal invasion of the Philippines
04:40 in San Diques, which is part of their territory.
04:44 They have violated the declaration on the conduct of parties
04:50 in the South China Sea.
04:52 And they are also violating the peace and stability of the Philippines.
04:57 That's all for now.
04:58 Join us again next week for another edition of the Daily News.
05:02 Until then, I'm J.P. Soriano.
05:04 Be safe out there.
05:06 And remember, you can always count on us.
