Malaysia has the potential to be a great nation and a greater voice on the world stage without being told who to befriend, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister told about 1,000 civil servants at the “Malaysia Madani Executive Dialogue of Civil Servants 2024 with the Prime Minister” on Thursday (March 21) that this is possible only if the people of the country - especially civil servants - have the discipline and integrity to uphold values and reject corruption because they believe it is the right thing to do and not due to the fear of authorities.

Anwar also urged civil servants to use the Quran as a guide and study the history of how leaders who were maligned as “terrorists” by their rivals had led nations to greatness.

00:00 Alhamdulillah, nahmadu wa nusalli ala rasulil karim.
00:05 We must have a new spirit in our country.
00:09 That this country, Malaysia, has the right to get leadership, administration, economy, education, health, which is far better than what we have achieved today.
00:26 We must have that spirit to move forward.
00:30 We have been weak for so long.
00:35 We accept the reality as it is.
00:38 We accept the reality that whoever becomes the leader, they must be rich.
00:44 That a large-scale corruption by the bigwigs is a common thing.
00:50 We accept the reality that public officials are just doing their job.
00:58 We accept the reality that there are weaknesses in the field of governance.
01:03 We accept the reality that the Audit Department has thousands of problems every year and we repeat the same problem for decades.
01:14 It is time for all the people and countries to save our country, our nation, our religion.
01:27 We must make a change and leap over this obstacle.
01:35 We are a nation with a long history.
01:40 We are a nation with far better potential.
01:44 So, if you ask me, what is it? Where do we start?
01:47 We start with determination, understanding, and sincerity to implement the words.
01:57 I say, "If you pray, you will be revived."
02:12 I know I have been in a bad situation in my life.
02:21 I am grateful to Allah SWT for giving me the opportunity to serve as a voice and a speaker for the people
02:42 to improve the weaknesses that we have.
02:49 I am confident that we can do it.
02:53 Yes, this is a small country compared to a big one.
02:57 But this small country can bring a spirit and a loud voice to the world.
03:11 Because of this support, we have a stable political system, clear foundations, and we have a good governance.
03:19 We avoid corruption, corruption, and abuse of power.
03:26 So, we dare to speak up.
03:29 If we don't, we will speak up in front of President Biden, or Prime Minister of Australia, or the Chancellor of Germany.
03:50 Allah shows that if we are weak, we have no discipline, we are not governed well, and we are corrupt, people will laugh at us.
04:06 They think that we are like a banana republic, a developing country that has no rules.
04:18 So, I want to start by saying that we have the potential to be a great and successful country.
04:30 I have been to China and many other countries, but this time I have been to Australia, the United States, and finally Germany.
04:39 Even though I am firm about our relationship, our rights, I say that Malaysia is a free country.
04:48 Don't you decide who is our friend and who is our enemy.
04:51 Whether you agree or not is your own business.
04:54 Thank you, I heard.
04:55 But I don't agree with the decision to be friends with someone to protect the interests of our country.
05:04 Don't let others decide.
05:06 This is a free and sovereign country, and we must defend this sovereignty.
05:12 That is why I say that even though half of the people don't like us, we are good with China.
05:18 I say that is our decision.
05:20 We are not good to be slaves, we are free as a free country.
05:30 Then in Germany, they asked me, Hamas is a terrorist.
05:37 Sometimes our people are influenced.
05:39 I want to tell you that Mandela was a terrorist when he was in prison.
05:46 Who did he follow? He followed the colonists.
05:49 Who did he follow? He followed Europe and America.
05:52 But he followed the black people, he followed us, he was a nationalist, a nationalist who opposed the apartheid.
06:03 For the British, he was a terrorist.
06:09 But for the Malays, he was a nationalist who opposed the British colonists, who were anti-national.
06:17 That is the situation.
06:22 Gandhi, Mahandas K. Gandhi, Gandhiji, what did Winston Churchill say?
06:29 A semi-naked fakir.
06:34 Imagine, he was wearing white.
06:38 Winston Churchill, the leader of the world at that time, brilliant mind.
06:46 But a colonist.
06:48 He saw India and wanted independence, why did he say?
06:52 This is a semi-naked fakir, a leader of India.
07:00 He thought you were worthy of being a fakir, a poor man who was half naked.
07:09 Who said that? The colonists.
07:13 But the Indians said, Gandhi was a father of the fighters, a father of the nation.
07:19 A father of the Indian fighters.
07:21 So we see it there.
07:23 So when I asked him,
07:25 "Germans, even though there are things that we may not agree with Hamas,
07:29 but we must not bow to their narrative."
07:32 That is their narrative.
07:34 So I said, "All of you who called them terrorists in Indonesia, in Algeria, in France,
07:42 in Libya against Italy, in Vietnam against France and America,
07:48 all of you who fought, call them terrorists.
07:51 But we call them defenders, fighters, because their country was colonized,
07:57 women, children and civilians were killed,
08:03 their land was looted, their houses were looted, their property was looted.
08:10 For us, they only fought to defend their rights."
08:17 It is easy to talk here, I am confident.
08:19 But I am talking in their space.
08:22 Next to me is the German Chancellor.
08:26 The German Chancellor is the number three country's power in the world.
08:33 Against the Malaysian Prime Minister,
08:35 there are a few lands below, but I represent the Malaysian people.
08:40 I protect the dignity and the sovereignty of this country.
08:44 I speak to defend the rights of the Malaysian people.
08:47 Let us build a city, a coalition,
08:55 a trust, a coalition, and do our best to work.
09:05 This country deserves better.
09:09 I always have this firm conviction that this is a great nation,
09:16 has an enormous potential to become a major power,
09:23 economically, politically, socially, educationally,
09:28 and to ensure a peaceful and comfortable future.
09:32 We will implement the conditions.
09:35 Thank you.
