With a reform mission in mind, the Madani government can’t afford to have any of its team members stay stuck with old corrupt practices, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During the Immigration Department’s Hari Raya celebration on Monday (May 6), the Prime Minister urged the agency to continue the improvements and progress it has made to ensure Malaysia’s good image among foreign nationals remains, stressing that this is especially important since Immigration officers would be among the first people that foreign tourists will meet upon entering the country.

The Prime Minister at the same time called on civil servants not to make excuses when they did not perform but instead, take responsibility and accept constructive criticisms.

00:00I would like to take this opportunity to say that sometimes my view of the members of the Immigration Office is firm.
00:18This does not represent the entire office.
00:21That is why, if you remember, when there were a few episodes in the KLA last year, when there was a bit of concern and concern from the Immigration family,
00:38I immediately went down and told them about the problems of people with disabilities who make mistakes.
00:48They should not be considered representatives of the entire office.
00:51So, I want to emphasize this.
00:53Members who carry out their responsibilities well, with full responsibility, should not feel neglected or reprimanded.
01:03On the contrary, we should support each other to correct mistakes, because it involves a small group that causes a misrepresentation of the good image that is being carried out by immigration.
01:20I would like to thank the entire Immigration family.
01:27Because I know, not only KSU Atul Rujie, but also Atul Ruslin in particular,
01:35are working together with the Immigration family to take the necessary steps to improve the existing weaknesses.
01:47These weaknesses are found in all ministries.
01:50In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I strongly argue that there is a mountain of hope,
01:59because this government is a government of renewal, a government of reform, a government of modernization.
02:07There must be an incentive.
02:09It cannot remain the same as before.
02:11If we are good, we are better.
02:15What does it mean to be a fitri idol?
02:17It is a return to the human nature.
02:20It is good to return to the madrasah.
02:23In Ramadan, it is our opportunity to train ourselves, to improve our faith, to improve our morals, to improve our values,
02:30to increase our worship, to read and memorize the Quran more, and to try to practice it.
02:37So, there is an improvement process there.
02:41It cannot be that after Ramadan, it will return to its original state.
02:44There must be a slight improvement.
02:47If we understand the meaning of the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW,
02:53it means that we must always strive for excellence.
02:56So, if we claim that we need to improve, it does not necessarily convey a meaning that the situation is hopeless.
03:04Whatever we do, good or bad, it must be improved.
03:08How do we measure whether it is good or bad?
03:11Not only from the performance last year, but also from what has happened.
03:17For example, the number of tourists has increased by 80% in several countries.
03:24That is a big and surprising number.
03:28If we give a reason,
03:31we have said that people have been waiting for 2-3 hours, that is a problem for our country.
03:36So, that is why I am reluctant.
03:38Sometimes I deny it, sometimes I insist on it.
03:41The higher my position is, the worse it is.
03:45What can I do? It is my fate.
03:47I know it too.
03:49Because when people see it, they say that the Prime Minister is talking about reform.
03:52The Prime Minister is talking about efficiency.
03:54The Prime Minister is talking about etihan fil amal.
03:56But when he comes to KLIA, he has to wait for 2 hours.
04:01So, I see this as a challenge.
04:04That is why I hope that you will not be offended.
04:09Is it true that there are small groups that cause the image to be distorted?
04:14Yes.
04:15Is there corruption in the intellectual sector?
04:19Yes.
04:21Is there a problem with discipline?
04:24Yes.
04:25Is there a practice of someone before he goes to
04:33investigate a certain area,
04:35and he is told that the money has been deposited?
04:39Has it ever happened? Yes.
04:41Our responsibility as believers,
04:45those who work with sincerity,
04:48we have to correct it.
04:51In the past, if we did not correct it, people would say,
04:54I want to tell you that we are not like that.
04:57We try to clean up to save our country.
05:00So, our responsibility together is to correct those small groups.
05:04And do not have a single view.
05:07Because I, Suleyman Syafudin,
05:10from the Ministerial Committee,
05:12is looking for the best way to improve the intellectual sector.
