00:00 It was not a big surprise that Stanford cut ties on Thursday night with Jared
00:07 Haas, its basketball coach for the past eight years. A former freshman guard at
00:12 Cal played just one season with the Bears. Haas never got Stanford into the
00:17 NCAA tournament in his eight seasons and had only one winning record in Pac-12
00:22 play over that period of time. The Cardinal finished 14 and 18 this year.
00:27 They were 8 and 12 in the Pac-12, although that Haas' final victory as a
00:33 Stanford coach was against Cal, his old school, in the Pac-12 tournament on
00:38 Wednesday night. Haas struggled to get the Cardinal over the top. He recruited
00:45 really well there and just as it was a difficult time for Cal with the
00:50 pandemic, Stanford faced a lot of challenges during that time as well. Haas
00:54 was a terrific young player at Cal, helped them get to the Sweet 16 at the
01:00 NCAA tournament. He had 13 points in their win over Duke, the two-time
01:04 defending national champion, but it was also a difficult year for him. His father
01:08 died during the year and he was more closely associated with Luke Campanelli,
01:14 who had been fired midseason, replaced by Todd Bozeman. So when the season was over,
01:19 Jared Haas was on his way to Kansas where he played three years and was a
01:23 very popular player.
