Hosts Brad Perry and Lexy Romano present an entertaining and informative look at local trending topics and community events occurring in Arizona.
Transcript
00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 Good morning and welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix. I'm Brad Perry.
00:15 Whoa!
00:16 That was like, that was like a speedy.
00:19 I know, well we were usually supposed to wait for the camera to get on us, but our director wants us to talk beforehand, so I want to make sure I get it out.
00:23 So, everyone's cued us that way.
00:25 Did you have coffee this morning?
00:26 No.
00:27 You were like, you were like Speedo Gonzalez over here. Oh my gosh.
00:31 We got a packed day.
00:32 We do. We got to get through this.
00:34 He's Brad Perry. I'm Lexi Romano. Let's do it.
00:36 We got a great show for you today. It's packed because I don't know about you, Lexi, but I do take my sleep very seriously.
00:42 And did you know that there are vacations centered around sleep?
00:46 We're going to be talking about how you can book the trip for you to go sleep later in the show.
00:52 That sounds great. Sign me up. I'm ready to leave today.
00:56 Yeah.
00:57 On a jet plane. Sign me up.
00:59 Plus, if you have a small kitchen like I do and you have no idea how to organize it, well you don't have to stress anymore because organizing expert Leslie Lair is here with some amazing tips.
01:10 I already had her kind of walk me through some of them, and I want all of it.
01:14 I'm taking it all home because my kitchen is not only small, it's really, really poorly laid out.
01:20 So, if you're like me, then you need to stick around and watch all those tips because they're great.
01:24 I love how she does have, it could be just something small.
01:27 You saw the little can thing that she had right there. That's easy to get and to organize.
01:31 The can thing?
01:32 Yeah. So, can we go back and show it? Can someone show it?
01:35 So, where is it at?
01:38 And...
01:41 Huh.
01:42 Maybe. Alright, do we have time? No, that's not the cans. It's okay.
01:47 Do you mean the cups?
01:49 No, it's the... If you go over to your left, right there. See the cans?
01:55 Oh, the cans in there?
01:57 Yes, yes.
01:58 Oh, I didn't see that.
02:00 Oh, yes. Okay.
02:02 Hey, if you have seen the movie trailer for "Army of the King," you know that there are some crazy challenges.
02:08 And I've actually got to go try some of them.
02:10 Yeah, they're giving away one of them that you guys are going to be very surprised.
02:13 So, I didn't know they gave it away. It was supposed to be a secret. Yeah.
02:17 But, hey, come back. Let's talk about that.
02:19 Yeah, that's great.
02:20 Let's do some trending. Brought to you by Gerber Injury Law, where we travel the internet and social media websites.
02:24 You got something that was handed to you, right?
02:26 Yeah, so this is really cool. So, I don't know if you guys are like me, but I love going to one place to kind of shop for all of my things.
02:33 I don't want to be going here and there.
02:35 So, that's why I love that Kohl's is bringing Babies R Us inside of their stores.
02:42 Now, what's so great about Kohl's is they've kind of revolutionized their stores, because a lot of other stores that are kind of similar to them, honestly, have kind of fallen by the wayside.
02:52 But they're so smart, because you can do your Amazon returns at Kohl's, which is so great.
02:57 So, you go, you do your Amazon returns, you shop for your makeup, because they have Sephora's in there, and now they're going to have Babies R Us in there as well.
03:05 So, it's great. You can kind of go get your clothes, get your shoes, do your makeup, and then you can get stuff for the little ones.
03:11 So, this is great. This is coming at the end of this year. This is great.
03:13 Kohl's has changed a lot, because I remember Kohl's being like a very open-air store of just everything, everywhere.
03:21 But now they're like...
03:22 Oh, okay.
03:23 Like, when I say open-air, like, you know, the shoes are right here, you'll get them, and the clothes are over here.
03:27 But I didn't know they had sections like that.
03:29 Is that an open-air? I mean, yeah.
03:32 I call it open-air, because nothing's like... There's no sections at the time.
03:35 When I went to Kohl's, it was just like thrown in there.
03:37 It's like, you know, you go...
03:38 It was a free-for-all.
03:39 It was a free-for-all, yeah.
03:40 Clothes, shoes, mixed all together.
03:42 It was. I mean, that's how Kohl's was.
03:44 Madness.
03:45 When I went there, like, the first time I went to one, that's why I never went back.
03:47 So, I never, like, knew that they had all these different sections.
03:49 It was too stressful of an experience. I don't know. Everything's all together. I can't figure this out.
03:54 Everything was all, like, mixed together.
03:56 Sure. I get it.
03:57 It was crazy.
03:58 I get it.
03:59 But, yeah, so that's exciting that that's coming in.
04:01 Yeah, so you can look out for that this fall if you're a mom, too, and you're looking for baby stuff.
04:05 Go to Kohl's.
04:06 Bring back the baby.
04:07 Baby got kids, other toys, so that's nice.
04:09 Also, trending right now is the Michael Jackson musical over at Gammage Auditorium, so you can go check that out.
04:16 It was a great show. Saw it the other night, and it talks about his life a little bit, so pretty awesome.
04:23 So, if you are a Gammage member, also, too, you got to go check out Michael Jackson's musical.
04:28 Yeah. What songs? I mean, I'm assuming they did all the big hits, but were there any songs, like, any kind of B-track songs, like B-side songs?
04:37 Like, you know what I mean? Like, songs that were not, like, huge number one hits?
04:40 You were like, "Oh, I'm surprised to hear this one."
04:42 Yeah, you know, there's a couple that I'm trying to think what they were.
04:46 "She's Out of My," what was it? "She's Out of My Hair," "She's Out of My Mind."
04:50 "She's Out of My Life."
04:51 "She's Out of My Life." Is that the one?
04:52 "She's Out of My Life."
04:53 Yes, that's it. So that one was there, and then some other ones.
04:56 It was three cool stories.
04:57 I do love that song. That's a great classic.
04:58 That was going through.
04:59 But, yeah, so pretty good over at Gammage.
05:01 Very cool.
05:02 Yeah, that's always good, and we were saying that, you know, there's a movie coming out about his life soon, too.
05:05 Yes.
05:06 So that's exciting.
05:07 So, yeah, his nephew, Safar, is playing him, and everyone's raving about it, even to the point where they--
05:11 Oh, we gotta wrap it up. All right. Sorry.
05:13 We'll talk about Michael Jackson tomorrow.
05:14 Hey, but coming up here on our show, find out how you can help the community
05:18 and get your dog clean as can be when The Mix returns.
05:22 [music]
05:24 Who doesn't love a clean dog?
05:42 Well, this weekend, Rethink Advertising is holding their annual rescue rent benefiting home fur good rescue.
05:50 Here to tell us all about it is Stephanie Olson of Rethink and Eileen Jones of Home Fur Good.
05:57 So, good morning, you two. How are you?
05:58 Good morning. Good. How are you?
05:59 Good morning. Good. All right. This is awesome.
06:01 We were talking that you've been doing this for 12 years.
06:03 We have, 12 years.
06:04 And then you've partnered up with different places that rescue animals.
06:07 Yep.
06:08 Which is so important.
06:09 I was just telling you how Arthur the King movie's coming out about a kind of like a rescue dog that lives.
06:13 Yay.
06:14 That's really good.
06:15 But this is awesome to do.
06:16 So let's talk about, of course, let's talk about Rethink first.
06:18 Yeah.
06:19 So how long have you guys been in the Valley?
06:20 Yeah. So we've been in the Valley 15 years.
06:22 We're an ad agency and we're right down the street from you guys.
06:24 We're a block away.
06:26 And I love that you are turning your parking lot into a dog wash.
06:30 We do. Yeah.
06:31 So for the past 12 years, you know, animals are really near and dear to our heart.
06:34 We want to do something for the community to give back.
06:36 So every year we partner with a local no-kill shelter.
06:39 We turn our parking lot into a dog wash and wash dogs to raise money for the shelter.
06:43 Yeah. And I like Hustle, too. Not just that.
06:45 You're also those who might need to have the dogs' nails trimmed, too.
06:47 Yes, absolutely. Our friends over at Care Surgery Center will be there,
06:50 and they're going to be doing nail trimmings for everybody, which is fantastic.
06:53 Yeah, those are important.
06:54 And then there's a sign of auction going on, too.
06:56 Yes, we do.
06:57 And that is very important.
06:58 Now, as I was told, you have to come by.
07:02 You can't do it online or anything, so you can stop by with your dog.
07:04 Yep, absolutely.
07:05 If you don't have a dog, you can stop by.
07:07 And I love you teamed up with some great, of course, places around here.
07:09 Yeah, we have some great partners.
07:11 Med44 doing facial giveaway and product giveaway, Candle Chemistry, Rumors Hair Salon,
07:17 Cane's, Nutribullet, Kendra Scott.
07:19 So many experiences.
07:21 Tickets to Odyssey, tickets to Desert Botanical Garden.
07:24 Just so much good stuff.
07:25 I love this.
07:26 This is a great way, again, to give back and to, of course, make sure that our furry friends are taken care of.
07:31 And that's where Eileen comes in.
07:32 And, Eileen, who do you have over there?
07:34 This is Allegra.
07:35 She's a nine-year-old pit mix.
07:38 She's been with us two years, so she's a long-timer with Home for Good.
07:42 And so --
07:44 And she's special.
07:45 She's deaf.
07:46 She can't hear.
07:47 Oh, wow.
07:48 Yeah, so she needs a forever home.
07:51 I love that.
07:52 So let's talk about, of course, your charity and how important it is to, again, making sure --
07:58 I love how you said no kill animals, you know, is what you guys really focus on.
08:02 Yes, Home for Good's mission is to completely eliminate euthanasia in Maricopa County.
08:08 So we're celebrating our 15th year anniversary.
08:11 And in those 15 years, we've saved about 7,000 cats and dogs.
08:18 I love that.
08:19 And I love that the animals that you get are animals that probably people had to give up because they were moving or someone passed away or anything.
08:24 And that's important that people understand these dogs and animals have been in homes.
08:28 They just need to find new homes to be taken care of.
08:30 Absolutely, yes.
08:31 And how great is this partnering up with them here at Rethink?
08:34 It's wonderful.
08:36 Thank you so much for this opportunity.
08:38 We can't wait for Saturday and seeing all the dogs that show up so we can wash them.
08:43 I will actually be there, and a lot of the volunteers will be there, too.
08:47 Will you have any of your animals there to possibly adopt and people can take home?
08:51 Yes, we are.
08:52 Jesus, our lead events person, will bring a few dogs.
08:56 I like that.
08:57 That's so great, of course, where you can get a clean rescue dog.
09:01 How's that?
09:02 There you go.
09:03 That's important right there.
09:04 Let's remind people the hours and the place where this is all happening.
09:06 Yes, so the rescue rinse is happening on this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. right down the street, 4714 North 44th Street.
09:14 All washes are 100% donation-based.
09:17 A minimum $20 donation does get you a free gift.
09:20 I like it.
09:21 And where can we find out more about, of course, the rescue?
09:25 We can be found online at homeforgood.org or on social media, also homeforgood on Facebook and Instagram.
09:34 Yes, and it's "fur," F-U-R, fur good.
09:37 Yes.
09:38 Thank you two very much.
09:39 And we'll have also information on azdailymix.com.
09:42 All right, coming up, see how a video game company is helping kids learn music when we return.
09:50 [music]
10:00 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Ubisoft Rocksmith Plus by KEF Media.
10:06 [music]
10:09 Music plays an important role in our daily lives, yet music programs in schools across the country continue to be cut or risk losing funding.
10:17 Brad talked with Shane Gann, a member of the touring band Hail to Sun and lead music library developer for Rocksmith Plus,
10:23 to see how one video game company is helping students of any age learn to play.
10:28 [music]
10:30 Good morning, Shane.
10:31 How you doing?
10:32 Doing well.
10:33 How are you?
10:34 Well, I'm very excited because we just said before we came on that I remember when you launched this amazing way for people to learn and enjoy music.
10:43 And it's really cool in 2022.
10:45 So let's talk about, of course, how important education plays in, of course, people's career and, of course, music does.
10:54 Absolutely. I'm excited to chat about it.
10:58 Yeah. All right, let's talk about this.
11:00 Let's talk about, of course, the program that you have developed, the music education program that helps kids and everybody pretty much further their way in life in a little bit.
11:10 Yeah. So the platform is called Rocksmith Plus.
11:14 It's a music education platform available for PC or mobile devices, both iOS and Android.
11:21 And it's a gamified approach to music education.
11:24 We bring the music down a note way towards the player, and it's really immersive, and it makes you feel like you're really playing along with your favorite master recordings or the lessons material that we're providing so that it really is an enjoyable experience to be learning music.
11:41 Yeah, that's really cool. And we know March is, of course, music in our schools month, but we think it should always be in our schools, you know, not just one month every time.
11:49 And there's no age limit on picking up an instrument, right?
11:53 That's right.
11:55 I love that. So how do people get started? What's the easiest way?
11:59 To be honest, there's no real perfect answer for that. I think any entry point to music is as viable as any other, be that a particular instrument that you might be gravitating towards or additional, you know, entry points being something like singing or composition.
12:21 Any of that is viable in exploring what music can do to enhance your creativity, your logic and math skills, your collaboration. It's got really wide reaching impact.
12:33 This is pretty cool. Okay, you are the lead music library developer for the game. So how do you pick the music? What do you look for when you do all this?
12:41 Good question. On the one hand, we are always reactive and responsive as best we can be to our community, which has been really vocal and supportive not only since the launch of Rocksmith Plus in late 22, but in the 10 years plus that Rocksmith has been a brand.
12:59 So on the one hand, we keep them happy with the genres and styles that they tend to expect from the platform. But the equally fun aspect is working to identify songs and genres that maybe players wouldn't identify with immediately.
13:16 But we can find value in teaching a certain style or era of music or even a global type of music that absolutely can help create this holistic education behind music that gravitating towards a particular genre doesn't always provide.
13:36 Wow, this is so cool. You are a very busy man. So I've got to ask you, how do you keep your guitar skills in place and going when you're on the road with your band and doing this?
13:48 Thank you. I am busy. We're usually on the road with my band Hail the Sun for a few months of the year at minimum. And thankfully, that in and of itself serves as a pretty perfect practice regimen because the audience expects nothing but perfection themselves.
14:06 But on top of that, I do have the opportunity to run skills or certain techniques or songs, even Hail the Sun songs. We have five songs available in Rocksmith Plus and I can use my mobile device as the only equipment necessary to run through those songs or those techniques.
14:24 I love this. This is so cool, man. I'll tell you, I love when you launch this because the big part you wanted to make sure people weren't scared to go and play music and you've made it possible with this, which is awesome. So where can people find more information?
14:38 More info at GetRocksmith.com. We've got a seven day free trial available as well as several tiers of subscription that are all very, very worth it.
14:48 Shane, thank you very much for joining us and I'm looking forward to talking to you with more development of this game.
14:54 Sounds good. Thanks for having me.
14:56 After the break, Leslie Lear is helping us get organized, even if you have a small space.
15:04 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Ubisoft Rocksmith Plus by KEF Media.
15:17 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
15:20 Welcome, welcome, welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix. Still to come, Prescott might be getting some snow this weekend. We might be getting some snow in the studio because it's so chilly in here.
15:35 But if you are looking to head up north to Prescott or anywhere in that beautiful area, we have some great events for you to check out.
15:42 Plus, there is an adventure challenge inspired by the movie Arthur the King and in this half hour, you're going to see how I did with it. So I had a chance to go out there and do it.
15:51 Yeah, that's awesome.
15:52 All right, let's talk about what's on later because we have a new lineup here at the CW7.
15:57 So grab your seat on the couch, enjoy some laughs and more with us today.
16:01 Starting this afternoon at 2.
16:03 And starting this afternoon with two hours of your favorite funny man, Steve Harvey and Family Feud at 4.
16:07 Followed by the Big Bang Theory, bring on the last of the Big Bang Theory.
16:10 Bring on the last at 6 and 630.
16:12 Then it's our new CW primetime lineup with the Connors at 7.
16:16 Followed by Sonim, a crinch at 8.
16:19 And Children Ruin Everything at 8 and 830.
16:22 You have to check them out.
16:23 There is your favorite funny man again at 9.
16:25 Hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV, Mom at 10.
16:28 It's all about the smiles here at CW7 where we like to say it's all good.
16:35 All right, if you are like me and have a small sized kitchen that you still want to look beautiful and be functional,
16:44 that can sometimes be a challenge.
16:47 Well, thankfully for us, we have professional organizer and lifestyle expert Leslie Lair here to give us some tips.
16:53 Welcome, Leslie.
16:54 Hello.
16:55 Thanks for being here.
16:56 And these tips already look fantastic for those of us like myself who have a small kitchen.
17:03 So let's jump right into it.
17:04 Absolutely.
17:05 So the first thing to consider when we're maximizing space in a small kitchen is the unused areas that can serve as storage.
17:13 And for me, I find behind the cabinets are great areas to put in some products that will help you organize.
17:22 So the first one is over the cabinet.
17:25 So this just fits.
17:26 I envision this maybe over your pantry door on the inside.
17:30 So, you know, whether it be cleaning products, it can be dry goods, but it's such a great way to use that space.
17:37 For the smaller cabinets, like underneath the sink, I love using these are all non-drill, self-adhesive.
17:45 I have a bunch of these inside of my cabinets.
17:48 I use them for whether it be trash bags, even for your cleaning products, like your liquid soap, for the dishes, sponges.
17:57 Okay.
17:58 And I love this.
17:59 I'm sorry to interrupt you.
18:00 I love this because what's so great about a place like underneath the sink or somewhere that's a little more compact is you want to get stuff out of boxes.
18:06 Exactly.
18:07 Because I find as someone who has a smaller kitchen, those boxes take up so much space because if you had your trash bags still in that gigantic box they came in, it would be taking way more space than that.
18:17 Absolutely.
18:18 And you can't fit it in something like this.
18:19 Absolutely.
18:20 The other advantage of taking it out of the original packaging is that you can then manage your inventory.
18:25 So you can actually see it.
18:26 Yes.
18:27 And we know when this is getting lower that it's time to replace it.
18:31 Definitely.
18:32 But all of these are geared for inside the cabinets.
18:35 Now inside the cabinet, a product that I've really been enjoying are these racks.
18:41 You can use them for the lids or cutting boards, plates.
18:45 I mean the opportunities are endless, but you are then really utilizing a narrow space inside the cabinet and making it stylish and easy to access.
18:56 Definitely.
18:57 So again, I keep talking about my kitchen, but it's because it really is kind of a pain point for us because it's not laid out well.
19:03 We have several long, skinny cabinets that it's like, "What do I put in here?"
19:08 So something like that would actually be perfect.
19:11 That would be perfect.
19:12 And consider stacking.
19:14 So for something that's more narrow, I love these airtight containers because you can then maximize that vertical space.
19:23 Again, take out the items and throw away the packaging.
19:27 It allows you to see it clearly.
19:29 You can really manage your inventory, and it's also stylish.
19:33 Absolutely.
19:34 These look so great.
19:35 They would look fabulous all kind of stacked up inside of your pantry when you open it up.
19:39 If you're one of those kind of people who it gives you a little bit of anxiety to see just open bags and boxes of all different colors and sizes, this is going to really organize your life and your space.
19:51 Exactly.
19:52 And then also think about under the pantry, on the floor, you can use things like these types of boxes and containers and add everything from paper goods, canned goods.
20:04 You can see the items, but you can also pull it out.
20:07 So hard to reach.
20:09 Think, again, outside the box and maybe put them inside of a box.
20:14 That's great.
20:15 And this is perfect for things that are kind of a non-perishable item like cans, something like that that's going to be stored for a long time.
20:22 Maybe you would forget that these are even in there if they were pushed to the back, but they're here.
20:26 They're in a clear box, a clear case where you can see them and you can access them quickly, but they're kind of stashed away.
20:33 They're not taking up space where you need the everyday things you're going to be grabbing.
20:36 And when you have a lid on these, then you can stack them, again, maximizing space.
20:41 Okay.
20:42 And then what's our last thing over here?
20:43 Okay, this is maybe one of my favorites because how many of us have water bottles, right?
20:49 So many.
20:50 So many.
20:51 And they tend to just take up a lot of space.
20:53 So this allows you to keep the tops with the water bottle.
20:57 You can stack them vertically.
21:00 They have additional little packages that you can add on top.
21:04 But I love that you can put your favorite water bottles in here, maybe retire the ones that aren't being used.
21:11 And then, you know, I think it's kind of stylish.
21:14 They're easy to grab.
21:15 Absolutely.
21:16 They're easy to grab.
21:17 They're right there.
21:18 You're kind of putting them on display, too, if, like, here you have, you know, colors that you want to have out.
21:21 This is really, really nice, especially for me.
21:23 Like I said, I have so many water bottles, so that would be great.
21:26 But, Leslie, tell everybody where they can find more information about you.
21:29 Visit me at my website, leslielairliving, or on social media, on Instagram.
21:33 I'm also @leslielairliving.
21:35 I love it.
21:36 This is so many great little things that I can't wait to pick up from my kitchen.
21:39 But, hey, coming up, sleep is so important.
21:42 And did you know there are vacations made specifically for sleeping?
21:46 Find out all about them next.
21:48 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Hilton by KEF Media.
22:00 Sleep we never seem to get enough of, right?
22:03 Well, Hilton's latest trend report shows that it's such a valuable commodity that the number one reason people want to travel this year is for rest.
22:11 I talk with Dr. Rebecca Robbins about sleep tourism.
22:15 Good morning, Dr. Robbins. How are you?
22:20 Good morning. I'm great, thank you. How are you?
22:24 Well, this is a very important topic to me and I think a lot of people, and that is, of course, sleeping.
22:29 And the struggle people have with sleep issues, whether it's falling asleep or, of course, maybe staying asleep a little too long.
22:37 So let's talk a little bit about this, about how we can, of course, sleep at home and on the road a lot better.
22:44 Well, thank you for having me. I'm excited to talk to you about sleep, something near and dear to my heart, from the Grand Wailea Resort here in Maui.
22:54 So it's early here and we're talking about something that a lot of people at the resort are doing, which is sleeping.
23:00 But many of us do struggle. Millions of Americans every night, about one in three adults, report struggles to either fall asleep or maybe waking up and struggling to fall back asleep.
23:10 So that's a big number. We also have a problem of poor sleep quality in our country.
23:14 Fewer than three in ten adults report that their sleep is restorative.
23:18 So we've got a long way to go, but I think in response to some of these challenges, individuals are now more and more curious and interested in resources and tools to improve their sleep.
23:31 You also touched on travel. That's one of the places where sleep can be compromised.
23:36 Simply just outside of our home environment, and then you couple that with jet lag, and travelers can really struggle.
23:42 So I'm excited to have partnered with Hilton Hotels to design some offerings to support guest sleep.
23:48 I like that. Okay, let's talk about this new sleep tourism, which is kind of like a trend now that a lot of travelers are going to be doing this year.
23:58 As a sleep scientist, I'm excited to see this trend.
24:01 But according to a report from Hilton, being able to rest and recharge while traveling is the number one reason guests are booking trips this year.
24:09 So that's a remarkable statistic when you think about it.
24:12 And so with Hilton, we're designing a sleep retreat in response to this trend here at the Grand Wailea in Maui,
24:20 so guests can come to the property, participate in lectures on sleep and circadian science with me,
24:26 and then attend meditation sessions to cultivate relaxation responses and enjoy spa services that are all designed to promote sleep and circadian rhythms among guests.
24:38 With the goal really being to go home equipped with tools to improve your sleep and to be recharged after the trip itself.
24:46 Oh my gosh, I'm ready to go. I'm on my way. They got the curtains and everything going.
24:51 Perfect, we've got a spot for you.
24:54 Doctor, one thing that we of course have to talk about, and that is how to deal with jet lag.
24:59 Because even for us in Arizona, traveling over to Hawaii, even though it's a short distance for us, people coming across from other states and stuff,
25:06 dealing with jet lag and how travelers can combat that.
25:11 Jet lag is a major struggle when you're talking about launching over time zones.
25:17 So some of the tips for combating the negative effects of jet lag, the problem therein of course is that your internal clock is lagging behind in your home destination
25:26 while you've jetted across time zones on an airplane quickly.
25:30 So catching up can be a process. In a perfect world, we'd all be preparing ourselves in the weeks leading up to your trip,
25:37 each night moving your bedtime about 15 minutes closer to the time of your new, that will be in your destination.
25:44 And then when you board the airplane, you want to consciously switch over to the time in your destination.
25:49 So maybe change your wristwatch and your smartphone device to the new time at your destination.
25:55 And then finally, when you land, a couple things can help you transition well.
26:00 Make time for exercise, get outside into the natural sunlight as early in the day as possible.
26:06 Now this is a big one. I know it's tempting to indulge in big meals when you're traveling or lots of wine with dinner.
26:12 But what you want to do instead to support your better night's sleep is have a big breakfast, a hearty lunch,
26:19 and then keep dinner on the lighter side and avoid some of those decadent things like wine and desserts that can limit your ability to get good rest.
26:28 I like those ideas right there. That's awesome.
26:30 All right, last one, and that is it actually affects us. People don't realize this here in Arizona.
26:35 Even though we don't change our time, still the time change affects us in a lot of different ways.
26:41 So how can people adjust to that?
26:44 The big thing here is that one hour does make a big difference. In Arizona, you do benefit from the ample amount of sunlight in the morning, in the evening.
26:54 In other time zones where the light has really fundamentally changed, it might be a little bit harder, but still in Arizona, it will be a challenge.
27:02 Just that one hour is enough to throw us off.
27:05 And so move in slow increments towards your new time zone.
27:09 Maybe that's 15 minutes one night, 15 minutes the next night if you haven't done so already.
27:14 Number two, similar to combating jet lag, really focusing on relaxing and unwinding as you approach bedtime.
27:21 Select a set of activities that you can ideally practice night in and night out, and whether that's one meditation or breathing exercise for a few minutes,
27:29 and then taking a warm shower, and then turning off your phone and consciously switching your mindset, preparing yourself for sleep.
27:38 So lots of sunlight exposure, focus on that wind down routine.
27:42 And some of the other tips we've talked about are also beneficial, keeping dinner on the lighter side.
27:46 Now the last thing, because we are prone to sleep difficulties this week more than others after the time change,
27:52 if you experience any insomnia symptoms, difficulties falling asleep, difficulty maintaining sleep, here's the thing.
27:59 It's a myth that staying in bed is going to be better and get you some sleep than getting out of bed.
28:04 But instead, if you stay in bed and toss and turn, that starts to associate in your mind your bed with stress.
28:10 So get out of bed, keep the lights low, go back to that set of activities that relaxes you, and slip back into the sheets when you're tired.
28:18 Wow, that is so great information, doctor, to of course take care of our jet lag, our sleeping problems, and get some rest.
28:25 Where can people find more information?
28:28 More information on these sleep tips and the sleep retreats at the Grand Y Laya that we're building are available on their website, thegrandylaya.com.
28:36 All right, doctor, thanks for joining us this morning.
28:38 Thank you so much for having me.
28:40 Coming up, we are getting a taste of some delicious recipes to keep your immune system going strong this spring.
28:53 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Hilton by KEF Media.
28:59 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Florida Department of Citrus by Definition 6.
29:11 Spring marks the return of sunny gatherings, and to make sure you don't miss out on any of the fun plans, you'll want to make sure your immune system is in tip-top shape.
29:22 Last week, Brad talked with registered dietitian Lauren Cornell to discuss simple ways to keep wellness top of mind this spring.
29:29 Good morning, Lauren. How are you?
29:33 I'm doing great. Thank you.
29:35 Okay, what is the easiest way to support overall, of course, our health during National Nutrition Month?
29:41 Yeah, so being that it's National Nutrition Month and I'm a registered dietitian, of course, health and well-being is at top of mind.
29:47 And I'm always trying to find those ways that I can sneak in nutrient-dense beverages or foods into my patients' diets.
29:54 So one really easy way to do that is to incorporate Florida orange juice into your daily diet or even into some recipes where it can fit in.
30:03 So easiest way to do that, I think, is by consuming an eight-ounce glass of Florida orange juice, maybe with your breakfast every day.
30:11 Just an eight-ounce glass includes vitamin C, potassium, thiamine.
30:17 If it's a fortified juice and it's going to contain vitamin D as well, these are all essential vitamins and minerals that we need and our immune system needs to function properly.
30:27 Okay, you said something very important there, and that is our immune system. And how does 100% OJ benefit that?
30:33 So through those vitamins and minerals that I listed, those are all immune system-supporting nutrients.
30:39 But also, orange juice contains something called hesperidin.
30:43 So hesperidin is exclusive to citrus, and it's a plant-based compound that helps to fight inflammation and helps to reduce oxidative stress that we endure on a daily basis.
30:54 So all of these things are ways that orange juice can help to kind of support the immune system.
31:00 I like that. Okay, since you said we need it in our daily routine, can you help us, of course, with some tips on how we can incorporate it into our daily routine?
31:08 Yes, absolutely. So, you know, aside from just drinking the glass of orange juice, you can incorporate it into some day-to-day meals that you have.
31:17 Like, I put it in my oatmeal sometimes. It just adds a little bit of sweetness and some dimension to the flavor.
31:22 We have some really great recipes on floridajuice.com that are some great suggestions on how you can incorporate Florida orange juice into your diet.
31:30 So I've got a couple of those here today. My favorite is going to be the Florida OJ and cranberry juice spritzer.
31:37 This is fantastic. It can be enjoyed by the whole family. Very easy to make.
31:41 It's just equal parts, which would be two cups Florida orange juice and then two cups cranberry juice with about a cup and two-thirds of elderflower sparkling drink.
31:51 And if the adults want to throw in their favorite spirit, it can be a really nice cocktail as well.
31:56 We also have the Florida OJ sunburst smoothie, which looks as delicious as it is.
32:03 We've got the Florida OJ no-bake protein balls. These can be incorporated as a snack or even a really nice sweet treat.
32:11 And then this is one of my favorites as well. We've got the orange couscous with cinnamon vinaigrette.
32:17 This is a really great side dish for dinner with your family. You can also have this as a lunch.
32:21 Just add some protein to the top. It's got all kinds of really great ingredients in it.
32:25 Wow. Those look all delicious. And I like how you said we could add a little adult beverage with the orange juice to make sure we're getting it.
32:32 But that's later on in the afternoon. So, hey, you know, let me ask you really quick, Lord.
32:38 How many glasses of orange juice should we be drinking? I know that sometimes people kind of go one a day, two a day.
32:43 What do you recommend? Just getting an eight ounce glass is going to give you all the vitamins and minerals that you need.
32:50 I mean, of course, if you end up having more orange juice in other areas of your diet throughout the day, like we've talked about, then that's great.
32:56 You're going to get a little additional boost. But just that eight ounce glass.
33:00 I like that. That's easy. Or, of course, an orange a day keeps the immune system healthy. That's what I hear.
33:08 Where can we find more information, Lord? Yeah, absolutely. So you can go to Florida Juice dot com for all these recipes and other helpful information about the health benefits of Florida Orange Juice.
33:19 You can also find us on social media channels at Florida Orange Juice. Perfect.
33:24 Lauren, thanks very much for joining us this morning. Yeah. Thank you so much for having me.
33:30 After the break, find out what's happening up in Prescott this weekend.
33:38 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Florida Department of Citrus by Definition 6.
33:49 Get connected in Prescott is brought to you by Sparklight, a stronger connection.
33:55 All right. Welcome back. Let's take a look at what's happening up in Prescott this weekend.

34:08 There's an amazing selection of Navajo weaving pottery baskets.
34:12 You can find more at Museum of Indigenous People dot org.
34:16 And then this weekend, it's opening day or I guess opening day for our northern Arizona Wranglers versus the Arizona Rattlers.
34:25 This big rivalry is been something since the Wranglers came into the IFL.
34:30 So Saturday at six o'clock over at the Finley Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
34:34 That sounds great. And then, of course, this weekend is St. Patrick's Day.
34:37 So there's the St. Patrick's Day pub crawl. That's on Sunday from two to seven in historic downtown Prescott.
34:43 Twelve different pubs on Whiskey Row. There's free registration, free water or soda for designated drivers.

35:04 Yep. And Get Connected in Prescott is brought to you by Sparklight, the local Internet provider serving Prescott and select areas of northern Arizona.
35:11 All right. Last weekend, I got to take an adventure.
35:15 Thanks to the studio behind the movie Arthur King. Here, take a look.
35:21 Arthur King is a movie about how a dog led an adventure race team through a tough course and help one man understand what friendship is.
35:30 So the movie studio thought it would be a great adventure to bring journalists and influencers together with the man behind the book,
35:36 Arthur the King, Mike Lennard, for a Bear Grylls Survival Academy Challenge.
35:41 Teams, you're going to gather in, you're going to help each other out and we are going to muddy up, guys.
35:50 So after I muddied up, it was time for the challenges.
35:53 OK, you guys know how I did with the trapeze stuff.
35:57 Well, now this is zip lining. I don't know what to say.
36:04 With a little advice from Mike, I was ready for my first challenge.
36:08 Do like this. Look up and then one, two, three.
36:13 See you looking up and praying. Is that what I'm doing?
36:15 I know. OK, my final moment.
36:17 May I hear you say, Lord, when you made my people smile, you made me smile.
36:22 He made me smile. Amen.
36:40 All right. We're getting through the zip line challenge.
36:44 I have overcome my fear of heights a little bit. Thanks to Arthur.
36:48 So I think now whenever I do anything, I'm just going to take my dog with me to get me through it.
36:53 But again, what a great challenge. And when you see this part in the movie, you'll think of me.
36:58 With us done with the zip line, it was time to use our team skills.
37:02 You've done 32 up to here. That's 50. That's 50 meters.
37:06 Double it for 100. It might be a little bit less, might be a little bit more.
37:10 We might be eating some people out here. I'm letting you know right now.
37:14 I don't think we're going back. I don't know what they got us into.
37:18 Listen, they didn't tell me how to do math. I did not go to be a TV host for math.
37:23 OK, I did not. I came just to do the fun stuff.
37:26 I was born for this, born for this. It's who I am. I could not forget.
37:33 I'm heading through the darkest part of the night. And now I see the sunrise.
37:40 Now I feel glorious, glorious. I feel glorious.
37:45 And with every Bear Grylls challenge, there's the famous meal of a survivor.
37:50 We have got tarantula.
37:53 Oh.
37:56 You're hurting me.
37:59 All right. Let me. It's alive.
38:02 In the mouth. Really?
38:05 Good job. Keep going. What does it taste like?
38:09 I taste plums. I taste potatoes, a steak and a waffle.
38:16 We did get a chance to eat the famous meatballs from the movie.
38:20 And after our meal break, I got to talk with Bear Grylls and Mike.
38:23 I was told I can win points by calling you General.
38:27 And so, General, how long does it take to actually become a Survivor Champion?
38:32 I think we're all Survivor Champions. It's all about spirit inside.
38:36 Skills come and go. Anyone can learn skills. You're learning skills now.
38:40 It's great, but it's not. Survival is more than skills.
38:44 Survival is heart and courage, and that's not exclusive to people who've been trained.
38:50 I've seen the most incredible courage and bravery and commitment and resilience
38:55 from the most unlikely people who've had no survival training.
38:58 And that's what I love about adventure. And the same on these adventure races, like for this film.
39:03 The rewards go to the dogged and the determined, not just those who are best at whittling whatever out of a bit of wood.
39:12 Survival is so much more than that. Adventure racing is so much more than that.
39:16 It's about relationships, and it's about courage in the big moments, and kindness.
39:20 It's another big factor that people forget about, being kind to each other in the crisis moments.
39:26 And then having that never-give-up attitude ultimately is what wins.
39:29 You talked earlier about how Mark Wahlberg embraced you and the character, which is amazing.
39:37 You saw that firsthand by being in that movie. How did that make you feel?
39:43 I can't really put words on it. I think to have Mark portray you and how he worked, his work ethics,
39:52 and how professional he is every day on set, he's a true inspiration.
39:57 Now the last question I have to ask you, this is very important.
40:00 You've been doing this, of course, Survival Academy. How do you think I would do out there in one of these races?
40:08 I would do great.
40:11 Alright.
40:14 After all the challenges we went through, at the end, we saw how important friendship is to winning.
40:20 Can we get Bear Grylls on three? One, two, three.
40:23 Bear Grylls!
40:28 It's really cool. The movie comes out this weekend and I talk with Quick Chick Vicky tomorrow about my review of it.
40:36 And then I'm also interviewing some of the stars from the movie.
40:40 So that will be on tomorrow.
40:42 It was a great challenge and we were talking about Catalina Island.
40:44 It's just beautiful over there.
40:46 Oh yeah, absolutely.
40:47 I was saying, for a guy who's got a fear of heights, you look pretty comfortable on that zip line.
40:52 You know what? I think because we were strapped in compared to when I was doing the trapeze thing.
40:57 Well, you're not strapped in for the trapeze.
40:59 Well, you just have this little harness. That's it.
41:01 This one they had a five point check.
41:03 That needs the extra double duty, strong.
41:06 And then everybody else, they went down. And so after a couple people went down, I'm like, "Okay, I can go."
41:10 Nobody else died.
41:11 Nobody else died, so I could do it there.
41:13 You're that guy who's like, "Other people can go first. Let's just wait and see how they do."
41:17 But yeah, once you did it, it was really cool.
41:19 It's almost like, I think, almost an hour of zip lining.
41:24 Wow. Oh my gosh.
41:25 And that was not just people. Just because you go through all these different ways of getting down from Canterly Island.
41:29 But I highly recommend it. But the movie's amazing, so you'll hear tomorrow my other review about it.
41:34 Nice.
41:35 Coming through, so that's good.
41:36 All right, cool. Yeah, that sounds awesome.
41:37 All right.
41:38 Yeah, looks like a great time.
41:39 It will be. All right, stick around. We'll tell you what's coming up tomorrow on The Mix.
41:43 Yeah.
