Hosts Brad Perry and Lexy Romano present an entertaining and informative look at local trending topics and community events occurring in Arizona.
Transcript
00:00 - From 44th Street in Camelback,
00:03 this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:08 (upbeat music)
00:10 - And welcome to the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:15 I'm Brad Perry.
00:16 - And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:18 - Today on the show, when you think of spring cleaning,
00:21 you might only think of your house,
00:23 but what about your body?
00:25 Well, we're gonna be talking with Prime IV Hydration
00:27 Wellness about how you can clean out the toxins
00:31 that spring in your body.
00:32 - Okay, I thought this was like, maybe like,
00:35 you know, hey, take a bath guys.
00:37 Like, stay clean here guys.
00:39 Come on now, clean out the toe jam.
00:42 (laughing)
00:43 Little deeper than that.
00:44 Little deeper than that.
00:45 - This is the inside.
00:45 - No, I like that, I like that.
00:46 Plus, if you watch fashion influencers on social media,
00:50 then you might have heard of Shein.
00:53 Well, they are partnering with small designers
00:56 to help give them a platform,
00:58 and a local Arizona designer was selected
01:00 for the partnership, and we have her here
01:02 to talk about her clothing line.
01:04 I'm so excited.
01:04 - I like it.
01:05 Plus, the Oscars were last night.
01:07 - Mm-hmm.
01:08 - And Flick Chick Vicky is here to recap it all
01:12 and see what she thinks of the winners
01:15 and some surprises here and there.
01:17 So we will find out.
01:18 - Well, she always calls it.
01:20 I mean, I think she was pretty spot on.
01:22 - She was.
01:23 She said she should have put the bets on there
01:25 and she was already on some big money.
01:26 - She should have.
01:27 Do people bet on the Oscars?
01:28 Is that a thing?
01:29 - Oh, yeah.
01:30 - Really?
01:31 - Oh, big time.
01:31 - Big money?
01:32 Did you?
01:33 - I did not this year 'cause I,
01:34 I don't know, I didn't feel it.
01:35 - You didn't feel that tingle?
01:36 - No, and that's what we're talking about
01:38 in our topics this morning.
01:39 - Yeah, yeah.
01:40 - Brought to you by Gerber Indie Law.
01:41 We want to thank Gerber Indie Law
01:42 for sponsoring this part of the show,
01:44 but yeah, I kinda like, I'll be honest,
01:47 I was award ceremony burnt out.
01:51 - You know, there are so many,
01:53 and we've been talking about it now
01:55 because it was a big year.
01:56 There were a lot of big movies
01:58 and I feel like some years,
01:59 the award ceremonies kinda come and go
02:01 and you don't really hear that much,
02:03 but this year we were really talking about it.
02:05 - And I think also too,
02:06 it's just like every awards leading up to the Oscars
02:10 was the same movies, the same people,
02:12 stuff like that.
02:13 And I was just like, how's this one gonna go?
02:14 So I was very surprised in Emma Stone winning.
02:19 I thought it was gonna go to Lily,
02:21 which is very interesting.
02:23 - Yeah, people are,
02:24 especially people are talking about it here,
02:26 you know, because she's from here.
02:27 She grew up in Valley Youth Theater.
02:30 And yeah, I mean, you know, actually we're connected.
02:34 My husband and I are connected to the theater world out here
02:37 because it's, you know,
02:38 we're musicians and performers and stuff,
02:40 and they posted on their social media,
02:41 you know, congratulations to her.
02:43 And a lot of people are questioning
02:45 whether that was appropriate for them to post
02:47 because this movie that she won for
02:50 was so kind of risque.
02:53 - Yeah, but that's the thing about it
02:55 is that she is, you know.
02:57 - She's local.
02:58 And so I know we wanna give that kind of,
03:00 you know, local love.
03:01 But I know people are a little bit like,
03:03 was it appropriate for Valley Youth Theater
03:05 to really kind of promote that?
03:07 So I don't know.
03:09 With all that being said,
03:11 congratulations to her because it's a big, big, big deal.
03:14 - I think they have to realize too
03:15 is that, and Bob talked about it,
03:17 and Bob's gonna be talking to us about,
03:19 of course, about Youth Theater.
03:20 But she's grown up.
03:23 It's like people of Miley Cyrus,
03:25 you know what's so funny?
03:26 Who just said this about people need to grow up now
03:32 because they have grown up
03:33 and not thinking they're these sweet little kids anymore?
03:35 It was an actress who was a child actor
03:38 who said, no, I'm playing these bigger roles now.
03:39 And they wanted to like--
03:40 - And that's totally understandable for her,
03:42 but I think people were like,
03:44 is it appropriate for Valley Youth Theater to post about it?
03:49 I don't know, I don't know.
03:50 - I don't know.
03:51 Let's see, you have an Oscar, two-time Oscar winner
03:55 and the SAG Awards, everything.
03:56 - Right. - Coming out of your theater,
03:59 I think you wanna post about--
04:00 - Right, but is it appropriate to post about this
04:03 when there are so many kids who are gonna see it
04:05 and be involved and maybe be asking their parents?
04:08 I'm not saying they should or shouldn't.
04:11 I'm just saying this is what some people are saying,
04:13 like was it appropriate for them?
04:15 - Yes, yes, and I think they should put a big poster
04:17 outside of her in "Poor Things" and, you know,
04:20 the whole bunch. - Well, maybe they will.
04:22 Yeah, I think that's up to the parents
04:23 to then determine if they want their kids
04:26 to know about that or have knowledge of the movie.
04:30 And, you know, I think that's the parents' job.
04:32 - Yeah, and I think also, too,
04:34 you don't have to go see the movie.
04:35 I mean, you're not supposed to see the movie as a kid.
04:37 So it's an adult movie. - Right, exactly.
04:38 I think that's the situation is that
04:40 it comes down to the parents.
04:41 So we've gotten off track.
04:43 Let's talk about the Oscars.
04:44 - We got no controversy going on here.
04:46 - Well, I mean, I will say Jimmy Kimmel, awesome.
04:49 I think he did the most amazing job.
04:51 - Thank goodness, because this year
04:53 we have not had good hosts.
04:55 - No, he-- - Thank goodness.
04:57 - He's the guy. - But that's what he does.
04:58 - Yes. - This is like people
05:00 trying to host award shows who are not hosts.
05:02 And, okay, I'm gonna get on my soapbox here,
05:05 because this is what you and I do.
05:06 We are hosts.
05:07 This is what we do.
05:08 It's a skill.
05:10 You can't just throw any old Joe Schmo up there,
05:12 Joe Coy up there, sorry.
05:14 But because they don't necessarily know how to vamp.
05:18 They don't necessarily know how to read a teleprompter
05:20 and take something and run with it.
05:22 - Timing. - Timing,
05:23 you're totally right, yeah.
05:24 - And then propping and everything like that, yeah.
05:26 - So yeah, that's what he does.
05:28 Of course he crushed it.
05:29 - And so I think, I'm hoping he signs on
05:32 for a couple more years.
05:33 I think he really did it very nicely.
05:35 Because like you said, he is a host.
05:38 And I hope they take example from this.
05:39 Like you said, get hosts to host shows.
05:42 - To host, exactly.
05:43 - Names or no names.
05:44 Even if they had a no name person
05:46 that like from a local show that hosts,
05:49 you know, that could host,
05:50 would do a great job.
05:51 - Absolutely.
05:52 - But yeah, knocked out of the park.
05:53 - Oscars, if you ever need a host, we're available.
05:56 - We are, thank you very much.
05:58 But the movies again, we knew Oppenheimer was going to--
06:01 - Oppenheimer was gonna clean up.
06:02 - I was surprised with some of the poor things receiving,
06:05 you know, for design and all that.
06:07 It was very good.
06:08 And I think, I love that they did a tribute to Stuntman.
06:12 That was really nice.
06:13 - Oh yeah.
06:14 - So it was a really good show.
06:14 - Very cool.
06:15 - So we'll be talking more about that.
06:16 But right now, coming up,
06:17 the Original Chop Shop is bringing us some delicious food
06:20 to help us feel good for National Nutrition Month.
06:23 So stick around.
06:24 (upbeat music)
06:33 March is National Nutrition Month
06:38 and the Original Chop Shop has some yummy,
06:41 feel good food that's healthy for you.
06:43 - Oh yeah, Drew Decker from the Original Chop Shop
06:46 is here to talk about all the deals
06:48 you can snag all March long.
06:51 Welcome, Drew, thanks for being here.
06:52 - Thanks, thanks for having me.
06:54 - Absolutely.
06:54 - Drew, this is very important as we talk about,
06:56 you know, Nutrition Month and what the Chop Shop can do.
06:59 And we were saying that when you come in,
07:00 you don't have to really order off the menu
07:03 to make a healthy dish, right?
07:05 - Yeah, everything is totally customizable.
07:07 So, you know, with National Nutrition Month,
07:09 I'm sure we all have our own nutritional goals.
07:11 So whether we wanna go, we're vegan all the time
07:14 or like trying to do a new diet or--
07:16 - Meatless Mondays.
07:17 - Yes, or trying to count calories,
07:18 like all of our menu boards have calories.
07:20 So, you know, if you don't want peanut butter in something,
07:23 you can take out the peanut butter.
07:25 You can have tofu or shrimp on a bowl
07:26 instead of steak or chicken.
07:28 So, totally customizable all the way down to like,
07:32 I'd rather have mixed greens in my bowl
07:34 instead of grains.
07:35 - Yeah, that's great.
07:36 Yeah, so it definitely makes it easy
07:38 for people who are adhering to a specific diet.
07:40 I mean, how like good are you guys with people on keto
07:45 who are gluten-free?
07:46 I mean, do you have options for all those people too?
07:47 - Absolutely, and at all day parts.
07:49 So we do breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.
07:52 - Okay. - Okay, and then gluten-free.
07:54 We have gluten-free granola.
07:55 So you can have an acai bowl with gluten-free granola.
07:58 So that's totally gluten-free.
07:59 If you're talking about vegetarian or vegan,
08:02 we've got a tofu bowl here with maybe the coconut
08:04 with a vegetarian green coconut curry.
08:08 And that's gonna be all vegetarian and vegan right there.
08:11 We have awesome keto choices like salad.
08:14 So we've got Greek salad,
08:15 you get greens and cheese and chicken.
08:19 So-- - I like the salad on it
08:20 'cause it's colorful.
08:21 And that's one thing you guys also do too,
08:22 the colorful like salad.
08:24 - Yeah, that's our hot honey bowl.
08:25 So it's gonna be chicken, hot honey sauce,
08:27 some hummus, homemade baked chips,
08:30 a bed of greens and some brown rice.
08:32 - Delicious. - So delicious.
08:34 - And yeah, if you're a meat eater,
08:35 so I saw this sandwich here in the middle earlier
08:37 'cause I was like, wait, is this like a meatless?
08:39 Like tell me about it.
08:40 And you were like, no, this is steak.
08:41 So you got the carnivores covered too.
08:42 - Yeah, absolutely.
08:43 So we've got our wonderful steak sandwich
08:45 right here in the middle.
08:45 It's gonna be a steak, fontina cheese, horseradish,
08:49 some arugula.
08:49 So it's leveled up arugula with some,
08:52 that fontina melty cheese.
08:54 It's so delicious on a multi-grain bun.
08:56 So it's still delicious and it's savory
08:58 and a little bit of sinful, you know?
09:00 (laughing)
09:01 - Just a little bit.
09:02 You can squeeze it in.
09:04 - All right, so I'm going to a cycling class
09:06 and I need something to fill me up
09:08 to make sure I get there okay.
09:10 What about the breakfast?
09:10 - Yeah, so breakfast.
09:11 So we open at 7 a.m. every day.
09:13 We serve breakfast from 7 to 11.
09:15 Right there, we've got our breaky sandwich.
09:17 So it's breaky wrap actually.
09:18 So it's gonna be avocado pesto, some eggs,
09:23 arugula, some provolone cheese.
09:26 So delicious.
09:26 And then if you're gonna go spin,
09:27 you probably would wanna start with a green juice.
09:29 So you go and you don't wanna get too full before you spin.
09:32 And then when you're,
09:33 so we've got a power green juice over there
09:34 with kale and cucumber and celery and lemon and ginger.
09:37 So awesome for that energy and detoxification.
09:40 And then afterwards you can come by and grab a muscle malt,
09:43 which is gonna have 25 grams of protein,
09:45 peanut butter, chocolate, malt, some banana.
09:49 So delicious.
09:49 - That sounds so good.
09:50 - You can do all that on our app.
09:52 - That's what I was just gonna say.
09:54 What's so great about you guys
09:55 is that while you're finishing spin class,
09:57 pull up the app, get your orders in,
09:59 and then just swing by and it's ready for you.
10:00 - Absolutely.
10:01 And right now on our app, you know,
10:03 we're all trying to not only be nutritious,
10:05 but also save some money where we can.
10:07 So for right now in our app and online only,
10:11 after 4 p.m. we're doing $12 dinner duos.
10:14 So it's dinner entrees.
10:15 So sandwich, bowls, salads, entrees, and a cookie,
10:20 which we have, okay, we've got a gluten-free cookie.
10:23 So you're doing good by having the gluten-free cookie
10:27 for $12.
10:29 - That's such a steal for dinner right there.
10:31 That's incredible.
10:32 You can hardly ever find dinner options
10:35 for less than 20 bucks, less than $15.
10:37 That's a great deal to get dinner and dessert.
10:40 It sounds so tasty.
10:41 - And you get pineapples.
10:42 (laughing)
10:45 - This is to take home, Brad, there you go.
10:47 - I mean, that's not pineapples.
10:48 I know, I was like, "What's in our gift bag?"
10:51 - So originalchoppedup.com,
10:53 you can find us, our app in the App Store or Google Play.
10:57 We have nine Valley locations,
10:59 all the way from Scottsdale Promenade,
11:01 all the way down to Queen Creek.
11:02 But if someone's traveling and they love Chop Shop,
11:05 you guys are located where?
11:06 - We have Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta.
11:09 - Wow.
11:10 - So there you go.
11:10 - You guys are going national, going global.
11:13 Very, very cool.
11:14 So these are some great deals all throughout the month.
11:16 All right, Drew, thank you so much.
11:18 - This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
11:22 (upbeat music)
11:30 - All right, welcome to the second half
11:32 of the Arizona Daily Mix.
11:33 Still to come, we're talking with a local designer
11:35 who has partnered with Shein
11:37 to see all the great designs coming up.
11:39 - Well, you know, that's a pretty cool app, I really like.
11:42 - Yeah, I know, I love it.
11:43 I do shop on Shein, so I'm really excited to talk with her.
11:47 - Okay, plus, you may not know this,
11:49 but Valley Theatre has made a big impact
11:52 on a lot of well-known actors.
11:54 I sat down to talk about the influence they had
11:56 on, of course, Oscar winner Emma Stone.
11:58 - Yeah, we were just talking about that.
11:59 - She's an Oscar winner.
12:00 - Two time now, yeah, it's really incredible.
12:02 But you know what else is Oscar worthy, I think,
12:05 is our Monday lineup here at the CW7.
12:08 So grab a seat and enjoy.
12:10 Tonight we have Steve Harvey and Family Feud,
12:13 that all starts at four.
12:14 We follow that up with The Big Bang Theory,
12:16 bring it on the last at six and 6.30,
12:18 followed by two new exciting shows to the CW7,
12:21 Ride at Seven and Wild Cards at eight.
12:23 You don't wanna miss it.
12:25 Then it's your favorite funny man again at nine.
12:27 Hang in there for the craziest sitcom on TV,
12:29 which is Mom, that starts at 10.
12:31 We are all about the smiles here at the CW7.
12:34 As we like to say, it's all good.
12:35 - It's all good.
12:37 So, all right, last night at the Oscars,
12:39 the real winners were the nominees,
12:41 because they got to take home a Everyone is a Winner
12:44 gift bag, and I got to talk with Lash Ferry
12:46 about what's in the bag.
12:47 The Oscars is a very big event, but what is even bigger,
12:52 and that is the gift bags.
12:54 And with me is the man, the myth, the legend himself
12:57 of, I say, gifting, and that is Lash,
13:00 who has this year's Everybody is a Winner nominee gift bag,
13:05 and we have some of the stuff here.
13:06 But Lash, before we start, I gotta ask you,
13:09 how much time do you spend finding this stuff?
13:13 - We work on this all year, and then in truth,
13:15 we'll start on Monday after the Oscars on next year,
13:19 'cause a few brands missed the deadline,
13:20 they couldn't get it together, inventory issues.
13:22 So we will start working early.
13:25 - This is so cool, and what's really great
13:26 is the products you get are from small companies
13:29 to big companies to highlight them with the celebrities,
13:32 but also with the public too, which is so important.
13:34 So let's get started, 'cause there's so much to talk about,
13:37 and I wanna talk about, of course, our skincare.
13:40 That is something that you're big on,
13:41 and I know you go looking for the best.
13:43 - It's my favorite part of any gift bag, to be honest,
13:46 the beauty aisle, and we have about a dozen
13:49 of my favorite products, but none more favorited by me
13:53 than Miage Skincare.
13:54 This is an ultra luxury line, it's based on decades
13:57 of research and innovation, they're getting a five-piece,
13:59 $515 collection from Miage, so I'm delighted to share that.
14:04 We've got some awesome men's specific skincare this year
14:07 from Adonis Arcana, the packaging is sleek and masculine,
14:10 we've got Institutum, we've got Goodall,
14:12 so many amazing beauty products.
14:14 - Yeah, and then you have one that's kind of fun here,
14:16 and that is the, I have to hold up,
14:18 it's the Hotsy Totsy bag.
14:19 (laughing)
14:21 - Hotsy Totsy is amazing, that's called Definitely Divine,
14:24 it's their glow kit, and that's a great success story.
14:27 She is a single mom, she happens to be deaf,
14:30 and she's participated a few years,
14:31 last year, one press hit alone, she sold out
14:34 of her entire inventory, had to close her brick
14:36 and mortar store just to fill orders.
14:38 - Oh my goodness, all right, as we move down,
14:40 we know a lot of people are looking to enhance their sleep,
14:43 especially before the Oscars and after,
14:46 and I love this Highlight, the Sleep Highlight,
14:49 what is that?
14:50 - This is called Heelight, and it's a red light technology,
14:55 it's NASA-inspired, and you just set this
14:57 on your nightstand as you're falling asleep,
14:59 it stays on for about 30 minutes,
15:00 and it helps you fall asleep more quickly
15:03 and sleep more soundly, we also are hooking them up
15:05 with Wesper, this is incredible,
15:07 if anybody has trouble sleeping, this is clinically based,
15:10 they get a sleep consultation with an actual neuroscientist
15:14 to help them, so if they lose sleep over losing that Oscar,
15:17 Wesper can help them out.
15:18 - All right, let's go down to the food,
15:21 and I'm not talking about for people yet,
15:23 I'm talking about for our pets,
15:24 this is really neat to put in the bag this year.
15:27 - I love what PETA has done, PETA has teamed up
15:30 with V-Dog, which is a vegan plant-powered dog food company,
15:34 and V-Dog has actually pledged 10,000 meals
15:37 to PETA's Global Compassion Fund,
15:39 which will go to feed dogs in need
15:41 right here in the United States.
15:42 - I like it, and then we can't forget those who have cats.
15:45 - Of course, we're all about inclusivity, right, these days,
15:48 and so we have the dogs, and then we also have,
15:51 from Smack Pet Food, a Canadian company,
15:53 they're doing their cat food line,
15:54 and I love the bag, it says, "My cat's on Smack,"
15:57 and it's such great pet food.
15:59 - I like it, okay, I hope we don't hear this
16:01 during the ceremony, but the Blendquik is something
16:05 that you wanna make sure you throw in there,
16:06 'cause people are gonna wanna need
16:08 to have that energy drink.
16:10 - You are Mr. Health, I see you're always posting
16:13 great ideas and great tips, and Blendquik
16:15 is for people on the go, it's a portable personal blender,
16:18 we're even giving them, from IsoPure, the collagen peptides,
16:21 they can blend up a really healthy,
16:22 delicious collagen-filled smoothie.
16:26 We also have this company, which I love, it's C60 Power,
16:28 these are sugar-free, chewable antioxidants
16:31 that taste so good and give you that boost of antioxidants.
16:34 - All right, man, this is great, all right,
16:35 I know we've got so much to get through,
16:36 but now we gotta get down to, of course, the people food,
16:39 because a lot of them don't eat,
16:40 'cause they gotta fit into their outfits,
16:43 so they're always looking for something
16:44 to nibble on during the show,
16:45 and you got a variety from popcorn with whiskey in it
16:50 to chocolates and yummy different little things here.
16:53 - All sorts of treats, and some of them
16:55 can fit right into their handbag
16:56 and take to the Oscars with them,
16:57 but yeah, I really love Eatable,
16:59 I love the way it's packaged, I love that these
17:01 are gourmet popcorn flavors that are inspired by happy hour,
17:05 I love the champagne-white chocolate combo,
17:07 and you can actually find Eatable in the Academy gift shop,
17:11 so it's got a nice tie-in with the Oscars.
17:13 - Ah, and then we can't forget about drinks,
17:15 and we'll start with, of course, who's back again,
17:17 and that is the tequila that they make sure they get through.
17:22 - This is Tequila Antigua Cruz, this is their Cristalino,
17:25 this is award-winning tequila,
17:26 we were introduced to them through the Latin Grammys,
17:29 and then if you're more of a gin person,
17:32 we've got Gin Bothy, this is small-batch,
17:34 award-winning Scottish gin, I just love the bottles,
17:37 I'm not really a drinker, but I love liquor bottles.
17:41 (laughing)
17:41 - I know, I actually, Vali, my producer,
17:44 was like, "Where's the gin?"
17:45 (laughing)
17:47 And quickly, she also introduced me to, of course,
17:50 this gut-helping drink here that you guys put in the bag too.
17:54 - What do you have?
17:56 - It's the, it's the poppy, the poppy, she was telling me.
18:01 - Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, that also is the least expensive
18:03 item in the gift bag, so this is poppy soda,
18:06 and what's great is they've reimagined and redefined soda,
18:10 so it doesn't have to be unhealthy,
18:11 this is filled with prebiotics,
18:13 and then we have a sparkling beverage called Eleve,
18:15 which is filled with adaptogens,
18:16 which help you de-stress and sleep more soundly.
18:19 - Yeah, I tell you, Lash, we could spend all day long
18:22 going through this gift bag, 'cause there's so much
18:23 in there for us, you have books in there,
18:25 we're amazing, you have the Hey Dude shoes,
18:28 all kinds of stuff, bags, everything for them,
18:30 and this is something that--
18:31 - Look at this bag, you're Mr. Travel,
18:33 you're always going, this is from Overnight Travel Bags,
18:35 these gorgeous red duffel bags,
18:37 this is a black-owned brand, I found him on Instagram,
18:40 and I was like, dude, you gotta send me these bags,
18:42 they're gorgeous.
18:43 - Oh my gosh, I gotta get one of those too.
18:44 Lash, I'll tell you, this is not the only award you do,
18:46 you do pretty much all the major ones,
18:49 so how can people find out more about the gift bags,
18:51 the items that you have in here,
18:52 and everything you got going on?
18:54 - Yeah, we just finished our 25th Grammys,
18:57 believe it or not, last month,
18:59 but they can just go to my website,
19:00 which is distinctiveassets.com,
19:02 or over on Instagram at SwagAssets.
19:04 - So there it is, Lash, I'll tell ya,
19:06 thank you for joining us again,
19:07 a wonderful year of the bag, which is amazing,
19:11 it's Everybody Wins, a nomination gift bag,
19:14 and I'll tell ya, we're winners just right here, right now.
19:17 - You're a delight, pleasure chatting with you.
19:21 - Thank you.
19:22 (upbeat music)
19:25 All right, coming up, Prime IV Hydration and Wellness
19:27 is here to help us spring clean our bodies
19:30 when the show that's all good,
19:32 the Arizona Daily Mix, returns after this on the CW7.
19:35 (upbeat music)
19:38 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
19:47 is sponsored on behalf of Prime IV Hydration and Wellness
19:50 by Love & Life, LLC.
19:52 - We have been all about spring cleaning lately,
19:58 but how do you spring clean
20:00 your body?
20:01 Well, owner of Prime IV Hydration and Wellness,
20:04 Gina Van Leeuwen, is here with some great tips.
20:07 Welcome, Gina.
20:08 - Thank you, thank you for having me.
20:10 - So tell us a little bit about this concept
20:13 of spring cleaning the inside of your body.
20:17 I mean, what does that mean?
20:18 - Yeah, springtime, everyone knows it's bringing new things,
20:22 new to life, getting rid of the old.
20:24 It's very common for people to go try to clean out
20:26 their house, their garage, the closet, right?
20:29 But most people don't think about cleaning
20:31 the inside of your body.
20:33 You drink water, that helps with that somewhat.
20:35 It's like taking a shower on the inside.
20:37 But getting all those excess toxins out.
20:40 So we were actually talking beforehand about the fact
20:43 that we have so many pollutants.
20:45 So our body is amazingly designed,
20:49 and we have our own filtration system inside of our body,
20:52 but all of the human-made chemicals that we've created
20:55 with the air, our water, our food,
20:57 just all of the pollution, you add prescription
21:00 and over-the-counter drugs, the processed foods,
21:03 and our body just can't keep up.
21:05 And our poor little livers just need so much love
21:09 and attention, and so taking certain supplements can help.
21:14 At Prime IV Hydration and Wellness,
21:15 we have a liver cleanse that's specifically geared
21:19 to support the liver through the detoxification process.
21:23 - And talk about how that works,
21:25 because so someone will come in for an IV,
21:27 specifically this liver support IV.
21:30 What does it do?
21:31 I mean, how does it support your liver?
21:33 What supplements are in there?
21:34 Kind of get into the information behind that.
21:37 - Yeah, so we have a drip, an IV drip,
21:39 for a lot of different ailments or support mechanisms.
21:44 But the focus for liver support would be antioxidants,
21:48 and there's two main antioxidants
21:50 that really help to support the liver.
21:52 One is glutathione, you may have heard of that before,
21:55 and the other one is acetylcysteine.
21:57 And those two are superpower antioxidants.
22:00 So there's this term, antioxidants,
22:02 that people talk about.
22:03 It's like, what is that exactly?
22:05 What is an antioxidant? - Exactly, people throw it
22:06 around all the time, but what does it mean?
22:06 - Right, I know, you just know it's important
22:08 and special, right?
22:09 - Right. (laughs)
22:10 - But basically, when your cells are,
22:13 they're mischarged, so they're missing,
22:15 so you think of protons and electrons,
22:17 you remember back from science class?
22:19 - Yeah, I'm sure.
22:20 - The negative and positive ions.
22:21 Well, if it's missing a positive ion,
22:23 those cells are bouncing around your body,
22:25 trying to get properly charged,
22:27 and it damages other cells in the process.
22:30 So what an antioxidant does is it donates a positive,
22:33 so it has an extra positive ion,
22:35 so it donates one to those oxidated cells,
22:39 so they're not bouncing around damaging other cells.
22:41 So you want super antioxidants.
22:42 You think of like blueberries, strawberries
22:44 are antioxidants. - I'll say all of those
22:46 things, right?
22:46 - Exactly, oranges, so we have vitamin C,
22:49 high-dose vitamin C, which is a good antioxidant.
22:52 So when you have the glutathione and the acetylcysteine,
22:56 that really adds a lot of antioxidant power to your liver,
22:59 so it can support that detoxification process.
23:02 - That's so cool, and yeah, so the liver
23:04 is an incredible organ in our body.
23:06 It flushes so many things out,
23:08 keeps you clean on the inside, gets rid of those toxins.
23:11 So this is a great option for people looking
23:12 to spring clean the inside of their body.
23:15 But you do so many other drips.
23:17 Tell me about some of the other ones that you offer.
23:19 - Oh gosh, we have people come in for a variety
23:22 of different things, from headaches to pains
23:26 from fibromyalgia, for example,
23:29 helping to mitigate those pains.
23:32 Sports, sports performance, so having a better outcome
23:35 with your physical activity.
23:37 We have just people that want to have general health
23:40 and well-being, that's more my area.
23:43 I just want to make sure I stay healthy.
23:45 So I do the liver cleanse in addition.
23:47 Whatever drip I do, like the glow, I love the glow.
23:50 That's a really good one.
23:51 But I always add a liver cleanse on top of that
23:54 because I always want to get the extra glutathione
23:56 and the acetyl-C-steine.
23:57 - That's great that you can add that in.
23:58 And we were talking about the space there at Prime IV
24:01 that it is so relaxing, so beautiful.
24:04 So you're coming in to feel good in your body,
24:06 to actively do something, but you're also just gonna leave
24:08 feeling great because the environment is so gorgeous.
24:11 - We have the zero-gravity massage chairs,
24:13 so while you're getting your IV, you can relax.
24:16 In our Zen room, it is a wonderful experience.
24:19 So it's not like a clinical experience.
24:22 And if you're like me, I'm kind of a needle phobe.
24:25 - Okay.
24:26 - And so I say it's 30 seconds of anxiety
24:28 for an hour of bliss.
24:30 It's so quick.
24:30 It's all mental, right?
24:32 - Absolutely.
24:32 - So I, you know, it's just 30 seconds of anticipation.
24:36 - And you guys are such pros, so I'm sure you do it quick,
24:39 easy, as painless as possible, get it in,
24:41 and then, yep, you have an hour of bliss
24:43 and you feel phenomenal for the rest of the day.
24:44 So the information is right there on your screens,
24:47 everybody, if you wanna learn more,
24:48 and come in and visit Gina and get that
24:50 fantastic spring cleaning in there.
24:52 - Yeah, and we're doing a special for March Madness.
24:55 - Okay.
24:56 - And so if you come in, you get the liver cleanse
24:57 for half price, so it's normally $50.
24:59 It's $25, which is a great price.
25:01 And if you bring a friend in with you,
25:04 you get 50% off any drip, which is a great deal.
25:07 Bring a friend, get 50% off.
25:08 - I love it.
25:09 - And 50% off the liver cleanse as well.
25:11 And we're also doing a blood drive.
25:12 - Okay, great.
25:13 - Tomorrow morning from 7 to 11.30 at both Mesa locations,
25:17 Mesa Shores and Red Mountain Gateway.
25:19 - Okay, that is so awesome.
25:20 All right, thank you so much, Gina.
25:22 Hey guys, stick around because we have
25:23 more of The Mix after this.
25:25 - The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
25:31 was sponsored on behalf of Prime IV Hydration and Wellness
25:35 by Love & Life, LLC.
25:36 (upbeat music)
25:39 Okay, the Oscars were this past weekend
25:47 and the talk around the valley is Emma Stone.
25:50 And before Emma made it to the big screen,
25:52 she was gracing the stage at Valley Theatre
25:54 and she credited one man who's made her dreams come true
25:57 and that is Mr. Bob Cooper, who's joining me today
26:00 to talk about, of course, the importance of youth theatre
26:03 in this community.
26:05 And I know we talk about Emma Stone.
26:06 We talk about Chelsea Stobbs.
26:09 We talk about, who else was there?
26:12 I'm trying to think of-- - Kimiko Glynn.
26:13 - Kimiko Glynn.
26:14 - Nick Cartel is touring the country
26:16 as Jean Valjean in Les Mis.
26:18 - Yeah.
26:19 - Charity Dawson, who's on Broadway in,
26:23 trying to think, she's in a new show.
26:25 - I know, we're thinking there.
26:26 - Juliette.
26:27 - But also we have to think about the Valley Theatre
26:28 of helping other kids who may have not gone into acting.
26:31 We have lawyers, we have police officers,
26:33 we have community leaders.
26:35 - We have scientists.
26:36 - We have future scientists, everything like that.
26:37 So we know that parents this past weekend,
26:39 even kids were watching the Oscar and going,
26:40 "Okay, I wanna get in the theatre.
26:42 "I wanna be an actress, I wanna be an actor."
26:45 But it all starts at the youth theatre
26:48 and that's so important.
26:49 That's what you've brought to this community, haven't you?
26:51 - Well, thank you.
26:52 I'm happy to have been a part of something truly wonderful
26:56 for the past nearly 28 years.
26:59 And what Valley Theatre does is provides an opportunity
27:03 for young people, no matter what they wanna go on
27:05 to do in life, it provides them an opportunity,
27:08 a safe place where they can dare to dream,
27:10 where they can take risks,
27:12 where they can learn to be themself
27:14 and to be held accountable, learn about responsibility,
27:18 work as a team.
27:19 And no matter what they go on in life to do,
27:22 those valuable tools are in their toolkit to help them.
27:25 And I've been there a while and it's been fun
27:29 to see the list go up.
27:31 - Professors at ASU to literally,
27:35 her name was Heather Duckworth.
27:36 She was with Valley Theatre, she went to college.
27:39 She was a Rockette on Broadway for a short period of time
27:41 and now she is literally a rocket scientist
27:44 on the NASA crew that sent the vehicle to Mars.
27:48 - Oh, wow, that's amazing that we're seeing all this go on
27:51 and it's all from, of course,
27:53 stepping on that stage helps people.
27:55 As we mentioned, people were talking about the Oscars,
27:58 Emma Stone, who's won before, which is amazing,
28:01 been nominated quite a bit.
28:03 But what I love is that she gave you credit.
28:05 How was that when she gives you credit for all her work?
28:09 - Still will probably be one of the biggest highlights
28:13 of my life.
28:14 I didn't expect it.
28:15 It was such a kind thing to do,
28:18 but that her whole journey to that Oscar,
28:20 she shared a lot about her time at Valley Theatre,
28:24 which was so wonderful,
28:26 which helped to bring attention
28:27 to a really incredible organization.
28:29 And we did nothing for Emily
28:31 other than give her a great place
28:33 where she could just spread her wings and fly.
28:36 - Okay, as we get ready for a new season,
28:39 you can say actually,
28:40 time for people to think about auditioning to the theater.
28:42 And so what's some tips do you give parents and kids
28:45 that are looking to get into the theater?
28:48 - Well, I would suggest,
28:49 if they really wanna get into theater, take dance classes,
28:51 take private voice lessons if you can.
28:54 We have a lot of classes.
28:55 You don't have to be in a class at Valley Theatre
28:57 to audition for a show,
28:59 but even professional actors
29:01 are always working on their craft.
29:02 Your body, your voice is your instrument
29:04 and you need to keep it in shape.
29:06 And so those are the key things that you need to do.
29:08 When you go to an audition, be prepared,
29:11 know your music.
29:12 Often you'll be given sides.
29:14 Spend your time wisely learning those words on that page.
29:18 Take those risks.
29:19 Be different than everybody else.
29:21 Try something special.
29:23 - I like it.
29:23 And I wanna say as a parent of kids
29:25 that have done Valley Theatre
29:26 and now off and doing their career in the business,
29:30 don't push 'em.
29:31 Let them find their way.
29:32 I think that we have a lot of stage mom and stage dads
29:34 that want them to be that big star,
29:36 but if you let them find their way,
29:38 especially at the theater, they will thrive.
29:40 And I think that's what was great for my kids.
29:41 I'm not just dropping 'em off.
29:42 I participate and did things,
29:43 but I didn't push 'em, push 'em, push 'em.
29:46 And that's one thing you recommend, don't you?
29:47 - Absolutely.
29:48 Really, be supportive, but don't push.
29:52 If your child wants to do something,
29:55 I think as parents, and I am a parent,
29:57 my daughter's 33, but as parents,
30:00 you want the best for your child.
30:02 But not always what you want
30:03 is always what's best for your child.
30:05 You gotta listen to them.
30:06 And if it's good, if it's wholesome,
30:08 if it's gonna be something that will help
30:10 project great things in their life,
30:12 then be behind it, but don't push.
30:14 - There it is.
30:15 Well, again, another day after the Oscars,
30:17 and everyone's looking to get in a theater,
30:19 so what you wanna do is head over
30:21 to Valley Theatre's website right there on the screen
30:23 or over on azdailymix.com and get involved.
30:27 Even if you're not in a theater,
30:29 you can support it, which is very important.
30:30 So, well, thanks for stopping by.
30:32 - Yeah, thank you.
30:33 - Thank you.
30:33 All right, stick around, we got more of The Mix after this.
30:35 (upbeat music)
30:38 - If there's anything I love,
30:53 it is shopping for the latest fashions online.
30:56 And one retailer that we all know
30:58 is fast fashion superstar, Shein.
31:01 Well, this mega brand has teamed up with local designers,
31:04 and we are so honored to have Alexandria Carroll here
31:08 to tell us more.
31:09 Alexandria, welcome. - Hi.
31:10 - Thank you for being here.
31:11 - Yeah, thanks for inviting me.
31:12 - So I wanna get started with delving
31:15 into a little bit about you
31:16 and why you wanted to be a designer.
31:20 - So I actually just fell into fashion design.
31:23 So I went to school for graphic design,
31:25 and I started doing like graphic t-shirts,
31:28 'cause I love wearing graphic t-shirts and leggings.
31:30 - Yes, yes.
31:31 - And then I thrifted, you know, this really cool fabric,
31:35 and I made a kimono and taught myself how to sew,
31:39 and here I am.
31:40 - So you're totally self-taught.
31:42 This came about super organically,
31:44 which is really incredible.
31:45 How did you start working with Shein?
31:47 Because they are such a huge online global marketplace.
31:51 What led you into that?
31:52 - Yeah, so I started working with Shein
31:54 'cause they found me on Instagram.
31:55 So I was like posting about the clothes that I made,
31:59 not really selling, just making for fun,
32:01 and then they reached out on Instagram,
32:04 and I was like, "Oh, this isn't real,
32:06 "'cause Shein is such a huge."
32:08 - Yeah, you were like not sure if it was maybe a scam,
32:11 so, but you went with it.
32:13 - Yeah.
32:14 - And now this is your third collection with them, right?
32:15 - That's correct, yes.
32:16 - Okay, wow. - Three.
32:17 I've been going for like two and a half, three years.
32:19 I've been designing for them, so.
32:21 - That's amazing.
32:22 And so the incubator program really allows you
32:25 to try new things, to express yourself,
32:29 and then people can truly go on Shein's website
32:32 and shop your brand.
32:33 - Yes, absolutely.
32:34 So my brand, I really love, and I'm very size inclusive,
32:39 so very huge variety, and I love the funky, fun aspect of it
32:44 'cause clothes should be fun.
32:46 - Well, okay, so let's talk a little bit
32:47 about what you're wearing,
32:48 'cause we're also gonna bring our models in here
32:50 in just a second, but your outfit is a showstopper,
32:52 so quickly tell me about it.
32:53 - Yeah, so this is a pattern
32:55 from my first collection, actually,
32:57 and I wanted to do like a jumpsuit that's like fun
33:02 and that you could go to festivals with,
33:03 but also wear like every day.
33:06 - Totally.
33:07 - So yeah, I have very wide leg,
33:11 love the wide leg look that's very popular,
33:13 and then you have the earrings to go along with it.
33:15 So this is a very cool vibe.
33:17 I really am loving all of this,
33:18 but speaking of this vibe,
33:20 let's get into our models that we have today.
33:22 So Alexandra, step back here with me,
33:24 and we'll invite our first model to come out.
33:26 And this is our first beautiful model
33:31 that is wearing one of your designs.
33:32 Tell us a little bit about what she's wearing.
33:34 - So this is a piece from the Evolue Shein collection.
33:38 So this is actually made from recycled materials.
33:42 - Wow.
33:43 - So Shein is making an effort towards sustainability,
33:46 which is really awesome,
33:47 and I'm very grateful to be a part of that.
33:49 - And I know that's a big point for you.
33:51 - Yes, absolutely.
33:52 So it's very fun, colorful, festive outfits
33:56 for raves, festivals, or even like going to the beach.
34:00 - Totally, you could wear this anywhere.
34:02 I love the wide legs.
34:03 I love the wide sleeves as well.
34:06 This looks super comfortable, super cozy,
34:08 and great for spring and summer.
34:10 - Yeah, exactly.
34:11 Okay, thank you so much to our first model.
34:13 That's awesome.
34:14 Let's bring out our second model.
34:16 So this to me looks like a very similar pattern
34:18 to what you're wearing.
34:19 - Yes, so this design is actually from my first collection
34:24 two and a half years ago.
34:27 So I did this in a plus size version,
34:30 and I got so much positive feedback
34:32 that I decided to make pretty much every size of it.
34:35 And so this is the like smaller size,
34:38 but it's very fun, funky, and edgy.
34:41 - I love that you have the two pieces
34:43 that always kind of coincide, that go together.
34:45 They're very fun, like you said,
34:47 kind of things to wear to a music festival.
34:49 But again, you could wear this out every day
34:51 with like a graphic shirt
34:52 if you wanted to wear just the shorts
34:53 or something like that.
34:54 Tell me about the arm piece.
34:55 Is that your design as well?
34:56 - No, this is actually a piece
34:58 that you can buy individually from Sheen.
35:01 I love accessories.
35:03 So I just wanted to give a little bit more to the outfit.
35:07 - Something extra, a little pop.
35:08 Well, this outfit definitely pops, both of them do.
35:11 And our second model can go ahead and join over there.
35:13 Alexandra, tell everybody
35:14 where they can find your specific designs on Sheen.
35:16 - Yeah, so I actually do have a website,
35:19 themodernalien.com,
35:21 but you can always search The Modern Alien on Sheen as well.
35:26 But I do have a link on my website.
35:27 - That's awesome.
35:28 All right, thank you so much for being here.
35:30 Thank you to our models.
35:31 All right, stick around guys,
35:32 because we have more of the mix coming up after this.
