00:00 On International Women's Day, we put the spotlight on a Spilsby stylist who is empowering clients with new techniques for those suffering hair loss.
00:10 Ruth Herron is just one of the ladies she has helped and now her efforts are being rewarded by being nominated for a nationally acclaimed award.
00:19 It's International Women's Day and we are honouring women in the community who are making a difference.
00:27 Now we're in Spilsby, I'm with Rebecca Bannam and one of her clients has been telling me how you've been changing lives.
00:36 Rebecca, tell me more about it.
00:38 So I'm a hair loss consultant and I offer clip-in toppers and hair integration for ladies that are suffering from thinning hair due to either cancer treatment, age-related thinning such as menopause, thinning with medication.
00:55 So my lovely ladies come in and I make them replicas of the hair that they used to have or we do something new and exciting with colours maybe that they haven't been able to have.
01:05 And I create amazing new hairs that they can clip in every day to make themselves feel fabulous and boost their confidence.
01:12 Now it's more than making a woman feel her best self, isn't it?
01:18 Absolutely, when my clients come to see me they're often really depressed with their hair, they often don't want to go out to social events so they've withdrawn from life.
01:32 But when I fit them with new hair they go out feeling amazing and the stories that I've had from my clients have just been so inspiring.
01:41 I had a lady message me last week to say she finally plucked up the courage to go to a make-up counter and get some new make-up and clothes because she said with her natural hair that was thinning she couldn't bear to be seen at a beauty counter.
01:55 So it really makes a difference to people's lives. It's more than hair dressing, it is a life-changing experience.
02:03 And is that what inspires you?
02:05 Absolutely, and seeing these clients every day have really inspired me. I've booked on some more training so I can offer a further hair loss system using the mesh so I'll be able to attach these hair toppers more permanently.
02:21 But just hearing these stories of survival and how people have fought back against their hair loss and taken control. For example, I had a lady who'd suffered with cancer on her face.
02:35 She'd had to have her ear removed, she'd been left with the devastation of the effects of the radiotherapy.
02:42 And fitting her with this topper has literally reignited her passion for her appearance again. She's been getting her hair tongs out, doing lovely styles.
02:52 People have been asking what she's done to her hair. And I just can't guess it's the topper. And it's just lovely to hear them inspiring stories.
03:01 And I'm honoured and privileged to hear them and help them ladies and be a part of making their lives happy and complete.
03:09 Now, your work has been recognised, hasn't it, nationally? You're up as a finalist in one of the biggest awards in the country. Tell us about that.
03:21 Well, this week I got the shocker that I've been selected by Remi Cochet to be one of the Hair Extension Specialist Finalists of the Year.
03:30 Remi Cochet is the biggest brand of hair extensions in the country at the moment. And this is the highest accolade that hair extensionists can get.
03:38 It's the equivalent to winning an Oscars for an actor or actress. So I can't wait to go to their ball in June and rub shoulders with the best hair extensionists in the country.
03:53 I just can't wait. This is the pinnacle of my hairdressing career so far.
