Should nonconference games count as much as conference games?
Transcript
00:00 The problem I have with the selection committee is that they count the non-conference games
00:04 early in the season the same as conference games.
00:08 In the non-conference season, a lot of teams are just feeling their way, trying to figure
00:12 out what works and what doesn't work.
00:14 A bigger indication of what kind of team they are is in the conference schedule.
00:21 And it tells you exactly how they do against other teams, how Utah could be a better fit
00:28 for the NCAA tournament than Colorado.
00:31 It doesn't seem to make sense to me.
00:33 And not everybody, and some of the projections bear that out, and some of them don't.
00:39 Some of them go by strictly by the NCAA profile that suggests that non-conference games count
00:47 the same.
00:48 And Utah has some really good non-conference wins.
00:50 A road game, a road win against St. Mary's.
00:53 That's pretty impressive because of the tough environment at St. Mary's.
00:58 And Wake Forest on the East Coast in a neutral court game.
01:04 That's impressive as well.
01:05 And BYU, they handed BYU its first loss of the season.
01:09 Now granted it was in Salt Lake City where Utah has been a lot more effective, but still
01:14 beating BYU anywhere is pretty impressive this season.
