00:00 If you just look at the records, Cal and Washington seem to be pretty even.
00:04 And Cal won both of the regular season games against Washington State.
00:08 The first one was tight, it went in overtime and Cal barely pulled out.
00:12 The second one in Pullman, Cal was clearly the better team throughout the game.
00:17 They led by 18 points with less than seven minutes to go and
00:19 they sort of bumbled their way to a seven point win.
00:23 There was never really much doubt that they were gonna win the game, but
00:26 they didn't play so well in the last couple of minutes, made the game closer.
00:31 So you have to wonder why, with similar records,
00:36 why Washington State looks like it has a better chance of getting in the NCAA
00:40 tournament than Cal does.
00:42 As we all know, the non-conference games count as much as the conference games.
00:47 And the net, the NET rankings, play a role in the selection of the teams.
00:53 The NET considers a lot of things, including who you play, where you play, and
00:57 the margin of victory to some degree.
00:59 And Washington State came into the Pac-12 tournament with a number 25
01:04 net ranking, while Cal was 62.
01:07 So that's a big difference.
01:09 So that probably plays a major role in why Washington State was projected,
01:15 in at least a couple of projections, to be in the NCAA tournament and Cal was not.
01:20 Cal is predicted, was put in the next four out category by ESPN.
01:25 There's the first four out, which is the next four that would have gotten in, and
01:29 then there's the next four out.
01:30 So it's outside of the top four contenders to get into the NCAA tournament.
01:36 And those are just projections.
01:37 We'll have to see what happens when the actual announcement of the field is made.
01:42 But these projections are usually pretty close.
