00:00 Briefly just talk about the quarterback situation with Chandler and Fernando.
00:05 >> Yeah, well, Fernando did a good job finishing off the season.
00:07 He came in about halfway through.
00:09 He's a very competitive guy, had some really good moments for us.
00:13 He's gotta continue to get better.
00:15 He knows that, and it's our job to help him get better.
00:18 I still think he's got a lot of room to grow as a football player.
00:23 Chandler Rogers, who came in, we've known him for a couple years.
00:28 Chandler's been a very productive quarterback at the college level.
00:33 And we're excited to watch him kinda get his feet underneath him here in our
00:38 program, and he's played in a similar system and is a smart guy.
00:43 So we're eager to get him out on the practice field and really looking for
00:47 everybody on the team, including the quarterbacks, to grow throughout spring
00:50 ball and ultimately in the fall, at every position, we wanna have as many good
00:56 players as we can and let the competition sort out the depth chart.
00:59 >> Will you have a number one quarterback going into spring?
01:02 >> Well, right now, Fernando's the number one quarterback.
01:04 And as we go through spring, just like every position,
01:07 those guys are gonna be evaluated.
01:09 But what I want them to be concerned with and
01:11 all of us to be concerned with is just how the individuals are getting better.
01:15 And the depth chart, I understand, is important, but
01:17 really we're gonna be concerned with the depth chart when we get into fall.
01:21 And right now it's just about the individuals getting better in the program.
01:24 >> When you talk to Chandler about transferring,
01:27 what did you say to him were his opportunities?
01:30 >> Well, everybody has an opportunity.
01:31 I keep saying this, we're gonna try and
01:34 recruit as many good football players into our program as possible.
01:37 We love Fernando, Fernando did a heck of a job.
01:39 We think Chandler's a good quarterback.
01:41 And we do the same in other positions where we're gonna
01:43 recruit as many good players as we possibly can.
01:46 And as long as they fit here at Cal, we wanna bring those guys in and
01:49 let everybody compete.
01:52 And I think that's when you get the best out of each and every player.
01:55 >> But you didn't tell Chandler, you'll be our quarterback, our number one.
01:58 >> Yeah, we don't, I mean, when we recruit, we don't guarantee people anything.
02:02 We guarantee them an opportunity to come in and
02:07 compete at the highest level.
02:09 And we'll do that for Chandler, and we'll do that for everybody else on the roster,
02:12 whether they're a transfer, a returner, or an incoming freshman.
