Hosts Brad Perry and Lexy Romano present an entertaining and informative look at local trending topics and community events occurring in Arizona.
Transcript
00:00 >> From 44 Street in Campbell, this is the Arizona daily mix.
00:05 It all starts right now.
00:08 >> Kind of like worry and fear for people that is like
00:16 okay, so everything that I'm buying now is it.
00:19 >> I generated yeah, you're going to find out what we're
00:22 talking about.
00:23 >> A few minutes. I am Brett.
00:27 >> I'm like the Romano all right down the show the city of
00:30 Phoenix is looking for a cocktail that represents us
00:34 that is Phoenix that is and we're talking with the phoenix
00:37 and you can enter the competition and I've already
00:41 started to get out the drink.
00:42 >> I love how you said it represents us as in the city of
00:46 Phoenix, why can't they have a cocktail that represents just
00:47 us.
00:48 >> Well, yeah, that's the cut to make it's called the air.
00:53 >> Daily yeah, I great I'm excited to try that one plus
00:58 spring training is in full swing haha and Cynthia sassy
01:02 is here to talk about how to be fashionable.
01:04 >> While you're out at the gate. Yes, that is so important
01:09 Ronald you got it you got to think about the environment
01:13 you're going to be anyone to start yes, and again it's not
01:17 how the teams play it's how you look that matters.
01:21 >> Plus crime nation is a yes, it's nice to have some of the
01:25 huge case as a tie to Arizona. More in the second half of the
01:29 show.
01:30 And also find out how you can get a course in spring train
01:33 tickets.
01:34 >> So this is a huge aside that I'm going to talk about really
01:37 quickly, but I just have to say to you see the host of crime
01:41 nation is actually been filled.
01:42 Did you see her post this morning, no I have not okay so
01:45 she posted on social media that she was doing a story for crime
01:48 nation and she didn't realize was on camera talking to the
01:51 camera. She really there was a bug.
01:53 >> Crawling in her hair oh my gosh that is my biggest fear if
01:57 anyone sees a bug on me. Stop me don't let me keep going.
02:02 >> She's just talking to you see the ball. So actually I'm
02:09 sorry my friend if I was there I would have told you.
02:11 >> Yeah, I would.
02:14 >> I know because I was the kind of person tells people
02:24 that yeah, it's right.
02:26 >> He he he he he he he he and this is starting to become
02:30 literally world national talking about and that is this
02:35 Willy Wonka experience that happened in Glasgow. And it's
02:40 that glass gas when I say Glasgow glass.
02:43 Glasgow yeah, okay, and Glasgow and what is very interesting is
02:48 that we're talking and is that it was a scam.
02:50 >> It was a scam that so this is what you and I were talking
02:53 about right before the show started because there so the
02:57 company is called House of Illuminati they are this event
03:01 company in Scotland right and people saw their online post
03:05 about going to a really want to immersive experience right
03:09 pictures online looked incredible everything looked
03:11 beautiful only for people to spend $45 and then get there
03:17 and realize it was a scam to the photos online we don't have
03:20 any photos to show you right now, but go online and Google
03:23 is because this the stark contrast of what they promoted
03:27 on their website compared to what was actually happening in
03:30 real life is.
03:32 >> Shock it is that the people walk into a warehouse. They
03:37 said that was like completely empty there like empty little
03:40 props here and there on the other talk is is that the
03:44 actors that were used for this. One the guy who was supposed to
03:48 play a walker but nothing like him at all yeah, the office
03:52 different and then they had the loop was that were not even
03:56 like even close to the. But the families were upset stuff
04:00 because people wait in line. Yeah, it's a $5. Yeah,
04:04 expensive. But we're also talking about how a eye is kind
04:08 of like making us think wow this is going to experience
04:12 and that's what people are speculating is that they're
04:15 saying most of this seems to have been a I generated so
04:19 definitely the copy the scripts people are even guessing that
04:23 the photos on the website were probably a I generated. It's a
04:26 really scary so Brett never just talking about how do we
04:29 know now when you look on a website you see something
04:32 online. How do you know, yeah, I generally think we're very
04:35 lucky here because we've both been to you know experiences
04:39 that actually were really great. I know during the
04:41 winter time they had the the
04:42 a globe there at Desert Ridge marketplace, the bar right
04:46 now is really nice they had enchanted yeah, I know you go
04:49 out to a lot of different people's experiences that are
04:51 just amazing and have you ever been to a bad one that you're
04:54 like I got to walk away from this I'm trying to think I I
04:58 don't believe so honestly, I mean I've I've been really
05:02 lucky, especially here in Arizona that every experience
05:04 I've gone to has been pretty good. Yeah, I think if there's
05:07 ever anything I think that comes off the top of my head,
05:10 but yeah, that's bad for spending money on it. Actually
05:14 take those like pay for the vacations for those experiences
05:17 and they turn out like like the fire festival. Yeah.
05:20 >> All yeah, I'm watching that documentary watch the
05:25 documentary watch it on netflix it will blow your mind.
05:29 Yes, and also watch the one on hulu to you. So they all kind
05:33 of stuff which is very interesting, but it's it's that
05:36 is your time out there goes one way or.
05:39 >> And this was like a mini fire festival to wait.
05:42 >> That was not a way where that's where you're supposed
05:45 to be on like Island and the food what they do like
05:49 sandwiches that. If you are looking for a walk experience.
05:58 That one but we will give you an experience here. There's a
06:02 daily this was after the break JDRF is partnered with bashes
06:06 and a big way.
06:07 You can get back with just the press of a boy.
06:11 >> And today we have Kareen and Ashley here to talk about
06:14 the new type one diabetes cure.
06:16 >> It's a new cure that's been around for over a decade.
06:19 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:21 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:23 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:25 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:27 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:29 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:31 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:33 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:35 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:37 It's a new way to treat diabetes.
06:39 Today we have Kareen and Ashley here to tell us how you can get
06:42 involved and help welcome ladies, thank you both for being
06:45 here.
06:47 So I want to get started by talking about type one diabetes
06:51 because we're talking a little bit about this before the show
06:54 that I think a lot of people confuse it or maybe don't know
06:57 what it is they think it's the same as type 2 diabetes.
07:00 So can you just give us some more information about it.
07:03 >> Sure type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease. So unlike
07:08 type 2 it does not have anything to do with diet or lifestyle.
07:12 And it also afflicts all ages. And it comes on suddenly and
07:17 there is like you said no cure and the JDRF is doing a lot of
07:23 research towards trying to come up with a cure.
07:26 >> So well we're looking forward to that day that there is a cure
07:29 that will be great and Kareen you recently just shared with me
07:32 that your son suffers with type 1 is that correct?
07:36 >> Yes, Michael was diagnosed when he was 8 years old. He's a
07:40 healthy 25 year-old right now. But yes, he has lived with the
07:44 disease now for almost 17 years. My sister was diagnosed over
07:49 40 years ago and she's still living with the disease so a
07:52 lot of a lot of reason to get this research funded and get a
07:58 cure.
07:59 >> Absolutely and thankfully there are ways that you can
08:02 manage it and live with it and have a really active healthy
08:05 happy lifestyle even through it. But we're looking forward to
08:08 the day that we have that that cure and people don't have to
08:11 live with it at all. So Ashley tell me a little bit about the
08:13 partnership with JDRF and Bashes.
08:16 >> Yeah, so JDRF and Bashes have been partners for decades.
08:22 And we are all about supporting and providing awareness and
08:26 education about type 1 and all of our Bashes and Bashes Dené
08:31 markets across Arizona are accepting donations right at
08:35 their pin pads. We make it super easy anytime throughout
08:38 the month when you're at one of our Bashes or Bashes Dené
08:41 markets just go ahead and make a donation if you can. I think
08:44 every penny matters even if you think that you don't have
08:47 enough to give to make an impact if we all do a little we
08:50 can do a lot together. And so I think that's really what this
08:54 partnership is about. We were talking earlier before also
08:57 just the fact that there is an onset of type 1 with all ages.
09:03 It can be really scary for parents. It can be really scary
09:06 for families and JDRF not only supports research but they
09:10 support education and community to help guide those families
09:15 for the newly diagnosed and through their lifetime.
09:19 >> I love this partnership. I love what you're doing because
09:22 you're bringing awareness like you said for those of us out
09:24 there who maybe we haven't quite experienced it. I was
09:26 sharing with you earlier that two of my brother-in-laws
09:29 actually both suffer from this and I didn't have that much
09:31 experience with this before. I didn't really know the
09:34 difference between type 1 and type 2 and there might be some
09:37 people out there thinking well why don't you just eat
09:39 healthier? Why don't you just change your lifestyle? That's
09:42 not what this is about. So Ashley really quickly I want
09:45 you to tell us what the Dené markets are because I didn't
09:48 know what these were.
09:49 >> So the Dené markets are up on the Navajo Nation. We have
09:52 nine stores up on the Navajo Nation and it's just a very
09:57 special unique format. It services and provides unique
10:01 items specific to that population. So they're within
10:03 our family of stores and they are participating in this
10:08 partnership.
10:09 >> So nice and easy for if you're shopping at any Bashas
10:11 you just press the button.
10:13 >> Yeah.
10:14 >> When you're checking out, boom and you're done.
10:15 >> And like you said, very easy.
10:17 >> Any amount helps even if it's a couple cents even if
10:20 you're rounding up on the dollar.
10:21 >> Yes.
10:22 >> It's going to help.
10:23 >> Yes. Our prompts you'll have an option for one, five or
10:25 15. That's kind of like our norm. But if you feel inclined
10:29 to donate a hundred, a thousand, whatever the amount is
10:31 if you can, absolutely our cashiers can change and adjust
10:36 that amount for you. And all of the dollars that we raise
10:39 are going to support JDRF and Tucson Medical Center
10:43 throughout the month of March. So a long-term partnership
10:46 that we're just very proud and honored to be a part of and
10:48 then we'll be at the walk as well.
10:50 >> Great. Really quickly tell me about the walk.
10:52 >> Sure. So April 20th, we are sponsoring a walk with Bashas
10:58 and we're going to be doing it with the help we usually
11:01 expect close to 5,000 people. It's a wonderful way to get
11:05 the community together and to support the research and
11:09 camaraderie, the outreach for the disease.
11:12 >> And I'll bet that's a great time for people who are
11:14 walking through this in their everyday lives to come together,
11:17 feel the support, feel the love and just be there with other
11:20 people who really understand.
11:22 >> Yeah.
11:22 >> Yeah. And you don't feel alone for those families,
11:24 especially if they're newly diagnosed. It's really scary.
11:27 >> Yeah.
11:28 >> And so when you're walking with someone who's had that
11:30 shared experience, it really helps encourages and keeps
11:34 folks moving forward.
11:35 >> That's great. All right. Well, ladies, thank you so, so
11:37 much. Like they were saying throughout the month of March,
11:39 the information is there on your screen. Thank you for being
11:42 here, ladies.
11:42 >> Thanks for having us.
11:43 >> All right. After the break, the Guardian Games are in just
11:46 a couple weeks. So find out how you can be a part of all the
11:48 fun when the Micks return.
11:50 [ Music ]
11:53 [ Music ]
11:55 >> It is one of the greatest events that we here at CW7 love
12:03 doing, and that is the Samson Ford's Guardian Games that's
12:07 coming up here March 22nd. And I got to tell you, Dave Evans
12:11 and I are going to be at the CW7 event.
12:13 >> Oh, my gosh.
12:14 >> And we're going to be at the CW7 event.
12:16 >> Oh, my gosh.
12:17 >> And we're going to be at the CW7 event.
12:19 >> Oh, my gosh.
12:20 >> And I got to tell you, Dave, Evan, and Mark, we are so happy
12:24 that you let us be a part of this every year. It's exciting.
12:26 And Dave, this is so important to you and the Samson Ford
12:29 family because Evan is kind of like our spokesperson for the
12:34 company. Everything he does is amazing. We're going to talk to
12:36 you in just a little bit. But let's talk about, again, the
12:38 Guardian Games and how important it is to the Special Olympic
12:41 community.
12:42 >> Well, it's amazing, you know, to be partnered with the
12:47 police, law enforcement, Torch Run. They raise a million
12:51 dollars, Arizona, by the way, they raise a million dollars a
12:54 year for Special Olympics.
12:57 >> Yeah.
12:58 >> And we just want to keep that torch lit just a little bit
13:00 brighter. And so we're very excited to be part of it.
13:03 >> Yeah. And one way is that, of course, through the games that
13:07 they play out there and the fundraising it does. So I know
13:10 this year looking to do $100,000 of raising for this.
13:13 And we got to say these proceeds go to making sure that our
13:17 athletes are able to do the different sports, everybody for
13:20 free. And that's the big part.
13:21 >> All over the state. You know, it was such it's such a big
13:24 deal for these kids to be participating. Young people, I
13:28 should say, because they're not all kids. But, you know, with
13:31 COVID that happened, it was just, oh, it was terrible to
13:35 not be able to get out and participate and do the things
13:37 that they love to do. So we're over that and we're excited.
13:41 This is really a great start to another year.
13:44 >> Yeah, the sixth annual one. And again, it's a great thing
13:47 happens out in the West Gate area. And Mark, we have to talk
13:51 because this is important to you and your family. These games
13:54 and just the Special Olympic community.
13:56 >> Yeah, you know, I'm the general manager at Sanderson.
13:59 I'm also on the board of Special Olympics Arizona. Evan's
14:02 one of the athletes. My wife's heavily involved. She leads the
14:06 group in the North Valley, you know, up there. So yeah, it's
14:10 very important to us.
14:11 >> And getting out there as a parent and seeing your child
14:14 participate with other kids and other people, it's really nice
14:19 because you were worried that that wasn't going to happen
14:21 when you found, you know, the way Evan is.
14:23 >> Well, and it's about inclusion, right? I mean, a lot
14:26 of times kids with disabilities are excluded and this is a
14:30 chance for them to be included and to have law enforcement
14:33 there, to have all the support from your TV station to all the
14:38 various groups. And if I start naming them, I'll miss
14:41 somebody. So I don't want to do that. But it's just incredible
14:44 support from all the partners we have at Sanderson Ford and
14:47 it's a blessing.
14:48 >> Yeah, it is. And Evan is here with us and I love that Evan
14:52 is pretty much a golfer better than me. I'm just finding out
14:55 that Evan has birdied a couple of holes lately playing golf.
15:00 >> Last Saturday, there he is. I can't even play with him anymore.
15:03 >> I know, we're out. Evan, how great is it playing in the
15:08 Olympic Games?
15:09 >> I play in the Olympic Games and do golf and basketball and
15:13 do basketball.
15:15 >> Yeah, you do a lot of stuff.
15:18 >> He does a lot. And what I love that, Mark, is that people
15:22 participate right next to them and that is our law
15:24 enforcement, our businesses and everything. And again, that's
15:26 the way you raise money. Even to those that don't even
15:29 participate, they can participate, can't they?
15:31 >> Yeah, exactly. And you know, it's in the Westgate
15:34 Shopping Center. So it's a massive area. There's plenty of
15:38 room to come just visit and see what we're doing because
15:41 we're having a great time. I mean, you host the Family Feud
15:44 and it's a gas. It's just so much fun. And it's all about
15:50 bringing the community together and just having a good time.
15:53 >> Yeah, and Dave, and that's what Samson Ford is all about.
15:55 It's about the community. If it's not our military families,
15:57 it's of course our charity families that you take care of
16:00 too, our Special Olympians. And that's what you want to make
16:04 sure people understand that you guys just don't give. You
16:06 participate and are out there.
16:08 >> Absolutely. And our amazing law enforcement. I think when
16:12 you get that team together with Special Olympics, you talk
16:15 about inclusion. We're the ones that are really happy to be
16:18 able to participate. And of course, CW7. Oh my gosh, you're
16:23 a bright spot in this valley and we love you.
16:26 >> Well, we love it too. And so we thank you all again for
16:28 letting us be a part of it. It is the Special Olympic
16:31 Guardian Games Torch Run. Well, let me say it right. It is
16:35 the Torch Run Guardian Games. Is that how we say it?
16:38 >> That's good.
16:39 >> Good for me. All right. So that's what I'm saying. We have
16:41 so much fun doing it. But the other part too, you get choked
16:43 up when you go and see this event. So please come out and
16:46 join us March 22nd there at Westgate and I guarantee you
16:50 you'll be stuck like we're stuck supporting the Special
16:53 Olympics. So thank you.
16:55 All right, coming up. Rhyme Nation has taken over Tuesday
17:04 night here on the CW7. Find out about the Arizona Connection.
17:08 Looking at next.
17:10 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.

17:38 >> Super cute.
17:39 >> So, we've got the warm weather coming our way.
17:42 >> Yeah, we do.
17:43 >> I like that. Very nice.
17:45 >> Is that how we're talking for the rest of the day?
17:46 >> I thought we would. We look so professional when we came in,
17:49 you know, tapping the papers. Plus, find out how you can get
17:52 a taste of a cocktail that represents the city of Phoenix.
17:56 >> I feel like when you do that, you have to pop the pinky.
17:59 >> So, the city of Phoenix. We're going to find out about
18:03 that and how you can be a part of it.
18:05 With that said, let's do some spring training contest giveaway
18:12 because spring training baseball is back and CW7 Espanola's

18:33 And thanks to Spanato for making it all happen.
18:37 >> I was going to say, how long is this going to keep going?
18:42 Everybody in the studio is like...
18:44 >> Yeah, I can go on forever. That is my TV news voice.
18:47 >> Oh.
18:48 >> You always have to have one of those. So, those kids who are
18:50 out there wanting to be on TV as a news person, you must make
18:54 sure you train your voice like this.
18:56 So, let's get to some trending topics brought to you by Gerber
19:00 Injury Law.
19:00 This is where we travel the internet, the social media
19:03 websites, our own backyard to give you something to talk
19:06 about.
19:06 >> It's kind of giving Kermit the frog though.
19:10 It's news voicey, but it's also a little Kermit-y.
19:15 >> Yeah.
19:16 >> It ain't easy being green.
19:17 >> That's right.
19:19 It isn't.
19:20 All right.
19:21 Hey, here goes something that's trending and it's springtime
19:23 and that means spring cleaning and I found this. Twelve spots
19:28 you're missing that professionals always clean.
19:30 >> Okay.
19:31 >> When they're doing spring clean.
19:32 So, here we go.
19:32 Let's see how good you are. Window tracks.
19:35 >> Yeah, no.
19:37 I don't even know what that is.
19:38 >> In between...
19:39 >> So, I'm definitely not cleaning it.
19:40 >> In between the stove and the countertop where the food falls
19:43 and lays right there.
19:44 >> Nobody cleans that.
19:46 >> Pulling out that, doing it.
19:47 Okay.
19:47 >> Pulling out the stove?
19:49 >> Yeah, pulling the stove out and getting in there.
19:51 >> I didn't even know you could pull the stove out.
19:52 I thought you just things went back there.
19:54 Then they're just there forever.
19:56 >> I remember my mother pulling it out one time and it was,
19:59 I mean...
20:00 >> Just disgusting.
20:01 >> Just disgusting.
20:02 >> Yeah, I don't even really want to talk about.
20:03 Ours is probably really bad.
20:04 >> Baseboards.
20:05 >> You know what?
20:06 I do clean our baseboards because I think that's something
20:09 that you can see still.
20:11 Like, if I can see it, you know what I mean?
20:13 >> You can do it.
20:14 All right, behind the refrigerator.
20:15 Again, something that people don't move or even on top of
20:17 the refrigerator.
20:18 Have you done the top of the refrigerator?
20:19 >> No.
20:20 >> Yeah, that's I actually got to do that today.
20:22 >> I feel good when I just clean the refrigerator at all.
20:25 >> So.
20:25 >> If I even wipe down the shelves on the inside, I'm like
20:27 patting myself on the back like, yeah.
20:29 >> I like this.
20:29 >> Good job.
20:30 >> How about your utensil drawer?
20:32 Do you ever clean that out?
20:33 >> I do, not super frequently, but that, I, yes, yes.
20:38 >> Yes?
20:39 >> Sometimes, yes.
20:39 >> This is one that I always forget about and I never thought
20:42 about it, but your faucet, a radiator, the faucet area
20:47 underneath where the water comes out, because that's where
20:49 mold and bacteria comes.
20:51 So you got to clean that out.
20:52 >> That's a good point.
20:52 >> That's a good one.
20:53 >> No, I haven't ever done that, ever.
20:54 >> Toothbrush holder and other small bathroom items?
20:57 >> Yes, yes, I will do stuff like that.
20:58 >> Okay.
20:59 Bags of toilets.
21:00 >> I don't clean the toilets, Josh cleans the toilets.
21:03 >> Okay.
21:04 >> And he's very thorough.
21:06 >> So.
21:06 >> So he probably does.
21:07 >> How about knobs, handles and light switches?
21:09 >> Yes, yes, I'll get those.
21:11 >> Yeah?
21:12 >> Not super frequently, but yes, sometimes.
21:13 >> And this one, I mean, I don't know if I, I don't think
21:17 I really do, but the kitchen trash can, do you clean that?
21:20 >> I do sometimes, just because it's out, because it's right
21:23 there.
21:23 Like if I can see it, I'm going to clean it.
21:25 If I can't see it, it doesn't exist to me.
21:27 >> All right, and then.
21:28 >> Do you use rubber gloves when you're cleaning?
21:30 >> No.
21:31 >> No, I don't either.
21:32 >> No.
21:32 >> Josh does.
21:33 >> I just, I use.
21:33 >> He's very serious about his rubber gloves.
21:34 >> Yeah, I just get in there and just kind of throw the, so.
21:37 >> I just figure like, I'll just wash my hands afterwards.
21:39 >> Right.
21:39 >> No, Josh has this whole like, rubber gloves.
21:41 >> Does he?
21:41 >> Yeah, he's really into it.
21:42 >> Is it because he, is it because of chemicals or he doesn't
21:43 like the feel of cleaning?
21:45 >> He's very, very specific about his hands.
21:50 >> He's a piano player.
21:51 >> Yeah, oh yeah.
21:51 >> Very specific about his hands.
21:52 >> So, yeah, that's very important.
21:52 Well, guess what?
21:53 After you're done cleaning, tonight Arizona CW 7 at 7's
21:56 Crime Nation is back with a crime that is simply.
21:59 >> Coming up tonight on Crime Nation, five people dead and
22:02 at the center of it all, a mother convicted of killing her
22:05 two children and conspiring to kill her husband's first wife.
22:09 What led Lori Vallow-Daybell to believe her children were
22:12 zombies whose bodies needed to be destroyed.
22:15 Tonight, Crime Nation reveals never-before-seen footage and
22:18 new insight from investigators and experts.
22:21 Plus, what we're learning about her now-husband, Chad-Daybell
22:24 and his doomsday beliefs and how they may have played a major
22:27 role. For Crime Nation, I'm Ashley Banfit.
22:29 We'll see you right here tonight on The CW.
22:31 >> Okay, wow.
22:34 >> This is a story that definitely has been like moving
22:38 in a lot of different directions and it got started here in
22:42 Arizona and then moved up to Utah, right?
22:45 Or Idaho? Which one?
22:46 I forgot what they said. Idaho?
22:49 Is that where they did this? Found the kids? Or Utah?
22:51 Anyways, yeah, very, very interesting story. Very sad one.
22:54 >> This is why it's so important what they're doing with Crime
22:57 Nation. Like Ashley told us when we interviewed her that
22:59 sometimes this helps them crack cases.
23:01 >> Yeah. >> It's great.
23:02 >> It is. And again, this is one that definitely I think
23:05 everybody here and nationwide are going to be watching this
23:07 one. But it really plays a big part with us.
23:09 >> Yeah, for sure.
23:10 All right, guys. Well, hey, on a lighter note, coming up, the
23:12 Kitchen and Bath Show happened this past weekend and we're
23:15 getting some of the top trends hitting homes this year.
23:18 >> The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored
23:31 on behalf of LG Electronics USA by Gorbets Communications.
23:35 >> The annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, generally
23:39 referred to as KBIS, is the largest Kitchen and Bath Expo
23:43 in North America, celebrating their 60th anniversary of the
23:47 show this year. We have home design expert Kelly Edwards,
23:50 who is directing the LG booth at KBIS with the hottest new
23:54 trends and items of this year.
23:56 >> I am here at the Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas with
24:01 LG, where they are showcasing some of their latest and best
24:04 innovations. Let me show you some of my favorites. If you're
24:07 like me and you don't own an iron, you're actually going to
24:10 love this product. Now, this is called the LG Styler. What this
24:13 is, is it's a steam closet. Now, they took their previous
24:15 model, but they added a handheld high-pressure steamer to it
24:19 right down here in this little pocket. Another product that
24:21 I'm absolutely loving is this MyColor InstaView refrigerator.
24:25 Now, this is a four-door, standard depth, maximum capacity
24:28 refrigerator, but it comes with some super cool features. Like,
24:31 you could tap this glass twice and actually see what's inside.
24:34 And the LED lights, they change to five different colors to
24:38 match any kitchen style. If you want to save time and money,
24:41 this is where it's at. Now, this LG dishwasher, and Consumer
24:45 Reports rated it the best dishwasher under $500. Now, if
24:50 you want elevated design, LG has you covered with their LG
24:53 Studio line, which are absolutely gorgeous. But the fun
24:56 part is that you can customize your finishes, like your knobs
24:59 or your handles, to match your kitchen. Now, everybody loves
25:02 a good combo, and this is one of my favorites. Now, this is
25:05 an LG washer/dryer combo that actually washes and dries in
25:09 less than two hours. And because of their heat pump technology,
25:12 it's 60% more efficient than a standard LG washer/dryer. LG
25:17 continues to invest in sustainable home solutions with
25:20 electrification. Now, what they do is they harness the power
25:24 of solar energy. They put it into a storage system similar
25:27 to this box here, and from there, you could actually power
25:30 your appliances at home, or even your EV charging station.
25:33 Whether you're looking for good design, energy efficiency,
25:36 or appliances that just make your life easier, LG has got
25:40 you covered. You can go to LG.com for more information.
25:42 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored
25:50 on behalf of LG Electronics USA by Gorbitz Communications.

26:43 While anti-aging products can be a lifesaver for ladies of a
26:55 certain age, they're not necessarily right for our
26:58 younger counterparts. Here to talk about the skincare craze
27:01 among teens and tweens is Dr. Brooke Jaffe. Welcome, doctor.
27:04 Thank you for having me.
27:05 Thank you for being here. This is such an interesting topic.
27:08 So we did kind of talk about an article that we both read that
27:12 addresses this topic. This is stuff that I had no idea about.
27:15 This is crazy. So young teens and tweens are getting into
27:19 anti-aging skincare. Tell me a little bit about what's going
27:22 on. Yeah, I think there's a lot of factors that really play
27:24 into this, right? So they, you know, we all have this fear of
27:29 aging, which seems to get more pronounced with each new
27:31 generation. Right. We're also all so inundated with seeing
27:34 ourselves on social media, on camera. Kids are doing online
27:38 school, online extracurricular types of activities. So they're
27:41 constantly looking at their face. Yeah. And I think that
27:44 drives it too. There's also this desire to fit in. So when
27:48 we see influencers and social marketing campaigns utilizing
27:51 those, you know, this is in front of our kids' faces all
27:54 the time and they just have this desire to use those products
27:57 that they're seeing. So this is coming mainly from them seeing
28:01 other people, influencers on, if it's Instagram or TikTok or
28:05 something like that, using these products and then maybe
28:07 these kids think, oh, I want to look like them. So I'm going
28:10 to use these same products. I think that exactly drives it.
28:13 I have asked numerous teens and tweens in my practice why
28:17 they're using certain products and it's not because of some
28:20 benefit that they think they're going to get. It's because
28:22 they tell me that they like how the product looks on
28:25 their counter and their vanity. Oh, wow. So it's not even
28:28 necessarily about the benefit of what it's going to do for
28:31 you. It's just having the product itself. Exactly. Wow.
28:35 That's so interesting. Okay. So talk a little bit about some
28:38 of the harmful things that these products can do to young
28:40 teen and tween skin. Exactly. So these anti-aging products
28:44 that we tend to use things like retinol, exfoliating acids,
28:47 stronger concentrations of vitamin C, they are very potentially
28:51 irritating to our skin. Oftentimes adults even struggle
28:55 to tolerate some of these products. Okay. They're very
28:57 irritating, can harm our skin barrier, which functions to
29:00 protect us, to prevent us from our skin drying out, to help
29:04 fight infections and to help protect our skin from sun damage.
29:08 So when they're using these products with no benefit,
29:11 right, it's all risk and that's where the issue comes in.
29:14 So I frequently see in my practice kids coming in with rashes,
29:18 breakouts, because they've been using some of these products
29:20 that just are too harsh for their skin. Got it.
29:23 So this is something that at that age, they really, really
29:26 want to stay away from. So what is it that you suggest that
29:30 they use? Exactly. So we want to keep it more simple with
29:34 tweens and younger teens. So I have three examples here
29:38 of different regimens. As you can see, they're each three
29:41 products. So cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Sunscreen
29:45 being of course the most important thing to start at a young
29:47 age. Absolutely. Also want to look for products that are
29:50 oil-free, non-comedogenic, which means they don't contribute
29:54 to clogged pores and acne. Okay. And ideally fragrance-free.
29:58 So keeping it simple, thinking about the fact that your
30:02 kid's skin is more, your tween or teen, their skin is
30:05 more like a baby's skin than your skin, can be a great guiding
30:09 principle for you. You would never grab a retinol or some
30:13 kind of anti-aging product and think about putting it on your baby.
30:16 Oh, absolutely. Yes. So okay, so talk quickly about each one
30:20 of these and some of the benefits of these three packages.
30:23 Yeah. So one thing that's a bit overwhelming out there is
30:26 just how many products there are. So I actually created a
30:28 line for tweens called B-Tween. And so right now there's
30:32 two products, a cleanser and a moisturizer, more to come.
30:34 Great for all skin types. Okay, you pair it with a sunscreen.
30:37 It is great for all tweens and teens. Love it. If your
30:41 tween or teen has more sensitive skin, maybe they're on the
30:43 younger spectrum of that age group, Vanna Cream, all of their
30:47 products are fabulous, fragrance-free, great, great options.
30:50 Okay. If you have maybe an older teen, they're starting to
30:53 get a little more oil, you could look for products that say
30:56 they're more for oily skin, the Slime by La Roche-Posay.
30:59 They have multiple products, but they do a great job telling
31:01 you which products are for oily skin. So we have a foaming
31:03 cleanser, a lighter gel lotion, and a very lightweight sunscreen.
31:07 Okay, I love all of this. You've provided something for kind
31:10 of the sensitive, the oily, if you're going into, you know,
31:13 those teen years, trying to break out a little bit, that's
31:14 a good one. And then something that you have designed that's
31:17 really good for everybody. I love it. All right, Dr. Jeffie,
31:18 tell everybody where they can find you, follow you, and work
31:21 with you. Yeah, so love for you to follow me on my social
31:24 media, which is @brookjeffiemd. Okay. My practice is in
31:28 North Scottsdale. It's called @brookjeffiemd. Love it. Nice and easy.
31:32 Yes. So www.brookjeffiemd.com, and then the Between products
31:38 can be purchased in my office or online at www.meetbetweenbtwn.com.
31:44 I love it. And you were saying earlier that you do some little
31:46 highlights or tips or stuff on social media. I do. So that's a
31:50 good place for people to go to just get ideas and just kind
31:53 of, you know, follow along. And maybe if this is something
31:55 you just want to go grab at the drugstore, they can follow
31:57 you and learn all about that. Exactly. Awesome. All right,
31:59 doctor. Thank you so much for being here. This was very informative.
32:02 I like how they picked the right person for this segment
32:20 because the spirit of Phoenix is looking for the tequila
32:23 cocktail that represents Phoenix. And here to tell us how
32:25 you can participate in the contest is Chris Miller and
32:28 Shannon Kroll. And this is really cool, Chris, because I
32:32 just started getting tequila. As we know, that is pretty
32:34 much one of the Arizona's signature spirits. And you guys
32:38 are excited because you guys have teamed up with Milagro
32:42 to do this. So tell me a little about this and why you
32:44 decided to do a cocktail. Yeah, absolutely. So the Spirit of
32:47 Phoenix cocktail competition is the first of its kind here
32:50 and not only celebrates the vibrance of Phoenix, but will
32:53 crown the city's first official cocktail. Phoenix, as we
32:56 know, is the fifth largest city in the country. And as our
32:59 evolution and growth continues, we continue to bring the
33:01 world to our doorstep. And with that, the energy here is
33:04 electric, it's super palpable, and more than anything we
33:07 want to share that with as many people as we can. And this
33:09 competition is a great way to do that. When I think about
33:12 Phoenix and the Sonoran Desert as a whole, I think of it
33:14 as a kaleidoscope of relevance. From the Super Bowls to
33:17 the NCAA Men's and Women's Final Fours, the WNBA All-Star
33:21 Games, and even down to the billions in tech investment
33:23 that we continue to see roll in. You name it, we've got
33:26 it. All eyes are on us and now we'll have our very own
33:29 official cocktail for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.
33:31 We like to say, you know, Phoenix is ours to share and a
33:36 place for all to keep. And this cocktail competition is
33:39 very much part of that mantra. We're super excited.
33:41 Okay, you just said this will be the official cocktail of
33:45 Phoenix. That's correct. So like when people go on to the
33:48 Visit Phoenix website, they're going to be looking for a
33:49 cool, refreshing drink. This tequila cocktail. The Phoenix.
33:52 The Phoenix. It's called the Phoenix and that's where
33:54 they're looking for different people to participate in
33:56 this. And that's where Shannon comes in because this is
33:59 very important people. You got to listen to Shannon if
34:01 you want to be in this. All right, because you got to
34:03 make sure you follow the rules. It's important for that
34:06 because this drink is going to go worldwide. It'll go
34:10 national. So how does this all work, Shannon? Okay, so
34:14 the competition, first of all, is completely blind. So
34:16 Chris and I are going to know who's behind each recipe,
34:18 but the judges and the public will not know. So that's
34:21 kind of fun. It won't be a popularity contest. It's
34:23 going to be what's in the glass. So it's two halves.
34:26 There's first half is judged by judges and it's a panel
34:29 of five that we've chosen because they're our mentors.
34:32 They're the ones that have created Phoenix. What is
34:34 the cocktail scene that it is today? Yeah, the second
34:36 half goes to the public to judge. So it's bracket
34:39 style. So we have all the submissions and then the
34:42 judges roundtable and they choose the top 20. Then
34:45 they're going to taste those and choose the top four.
34:48 From there in April, it goes over to the public. Okay.
34:51 Now the public, they're going to be able to taste
34:53 your experiences and pop-ups, which we'll get to,
34:56 but they're going to choose the top two. And then
34:59 all of May is the top two and then the Mayor, Kate,
35:01 will announce 602 Day, which is June 2nd. Wow, June
35:04 2nd is when it all happens, when it comes down.
35:06 Okay. So for right now, you have literally 10 days
35:10 to come up with the cocktail because the submission
35:12 has to be in by March 15th. You're saying also, too,
35:15 you want them to go to the website because there
35:16 is some criteria and also some actually great
35:20 pointers on making the cocktail where you guys
35:22 talk about how much you need to use, what you
35:24 need to make sure that's there and stuff. And
35:26 that's important for this cocktail because we
35:28 said this is something that is going to be all
35:31 over the Phoenix area. So do we know what bars
35:33 will be serving this yet or have you gotten
35:35 to that yet or is it going to be mostly, we'll
35:37 find out. We hope eventually everyone's serving
35:39 it. Yes. But for our experiences and pop-ups,
35:42 and that's how the public is going to judge. So
35:44 we're going to have experiences which are more
35:46 of a formal, you sit down and you're tasting the
35:49 flight and it's going to come out and it's going
35:51 to be in the glass where it's going to be beautiful.
35:52 We've got Garden Bar, Little Rituals and some
35:55 other places coming on. And then the pop-ups
35:57 are going to be real fun because that's going
35:59 to be Jackson Donahue and I. We're just going
36:01 to be popping up at random locations for a
36:02 couple hours. More casual taste, quick judge,
36:06 pick your favorite. There it is. And that's how
36:08 the public gets involved right there is by them
36:10 looking for these pop-ups and they can get it
36:12 on the website. And of course, other ways, too,
36:14 you'll start reminding them with calendar invites
36:16 and stuff, which is so important. Social media,
36:18 Visit Phoenix is rocking that. I love it. And
36:21 not only are you getting a cocktail, there's
36:23 also some cool gifts as you go along that will
36:25 be coming in there. And one of them is the
36:27 shaker kit that we have right here. This is
36:29 pretty cool. Yes. For having someone, because
36:31 this is made by who? Arc Cardinal. And they're
36:33 big in the cocktail scene. Yes, their
36:36 glassware is amazing. They are sponsoring
36:39 us. They're going to be sending us all the
36:41 glassware and then tool sets for the winners
36:43 and then for us as well. So, yeah, we're happy
36:46 about that. This is very cool. OK. And they're
36:48 copper. And they're copper. So, they're going,
36:49 oh, see, we're starting to get the little things
36:51 there, which is really cool. So, we are talking
36:54 again, this competition to represent Arizona
36:56 and maybe even go off to like the World
36:58 Cocktail Competition and stuff. And so, will
37:01 the winner have a tour around Phoenix? Will
37:03 there be a parade? Will there be anything like
37:05 that? Ribbon cutting? Will they have been
37:07 crowned? How would all that work? Purely bragging
37:10 rights. I love it. All right. Tell them again
37:13 where they can go to get more information.
37:15 PHXcocktail.com. Everything you need is there.
37:17 There it is right there. And then again, it's
37:19 great for everybody. All kinds of things to do.
37:22 I want to just really quick show you my
37:25 skills there just in case of, you know, I do win.
37:27 But look at that. Yes. Smile while you shake it.
37:30 Smile while you shake it. I think you should enter.
37:32 You know what? I think I might be doing that.
37:35 Not going to say. But I know after the break,
37:38 we'll find out the best outfits to wear for
37:39 spring training as you are thinking of a cocktail
37:42 to make. So, come on back with more of the mix
37:44 after this.
37:44 [Music]
37:57 Attending a spring training event is as much a
37:59 social event as it is about the baseball.
38:03 We have Cynthia Sassi to talk about the latest
38:05 spring 2024 trends and practical fashion tips
38:08 to wear to the ballpark. Cynthia, thanks for
38:10 being here. Of course. Thanks for having me.
38:12 So, you are such a fashionista and someone who
38:16 just always knows what is in for the season.
38:20 So, I'm so excited to talk to you about this
38:22 because spring training is underway. It's the
38:24 beautiful time of year. So, let's just kind of
38:26 talk about, I don't know, what are your, what
38:28 are your main ideas about what people should
38:30 and shouldn't wear to the ballpark? Well, obviously,
38:31 there's, you know, fashion trends and you want
38:33 to look good and especially if you're taking
38:34 photos for the 'Gram, you want to make sure
38:36 you're all fashionable and up on the trends.
38:38 But you also need to think about function
38:39 because you are going to be doing some walking.
38:42 If you're on the lawn, you're going to be
38:43 walking in grass or sitting in grass. So, these
38:46 are things you really need to consider when
38:47 picking out your outfit for spring training.
38:49 So, we've got some great fashions with some
38:52 Lux Model Group models here today to show us
38:55 what to wear and yeah, let's bring some of
38:58 them out. You want to get started? Alright,
39:00 let's dive into the models because this is
39:02 what it's all about. These are the trends
39:04 and the fashion. So, let's bring our first
39:06 model out. So, this is Erica here and she's
39:09 wearing, I love layers for events like spring
39:11 training just because obviously you want to
39:13 check the weather before you go but the shade
39:15 changes throughout the afternoon as you're
39:17 sitting there. You might get a little chilly.
39:19 So, it's nice to have a jacket to take on and
39:20 off based on how chilly it is. The clear bags,
39:24 they actually do at spring training now, they
39:26 do require the MLB bag policy. So, you have to
39:30 have either the really small bag that's like
39:32 a little clutch or you can get a great clear
39:34 bag like this. This whole outfit's from
39:36 Alexandra Collections which is a local
39:37 boutique at 44th Street Camelback and they
39:40 have these really cute clear bags that you
39:41 can make your outfit still really fashionable.
39:43 And this is so great because I feel like for
39:45 a long time the clear bag situation wasn't
39:48 super cute. We didn't have a lot of options.
39:50 So, something like this is really cute.
39:51 There's still some detailing on there.
39:53 Super cute idea. What about shoes? Flat
39:56 shoes for sure. You're going to be doing
39:58 some walking. Make sure they're comfortable
39:59 too. I wouldn't recommend wearing like new
40:01 shoes then you have to walk, you know, quite a ways.
40:03 Breaking them in while you're there.
40:04 All of that but you might be walking through
40:06 some grass if you're sitting on the lawn.
40:08 You don't want to be wearing heels and
40:09 sinking into grass. So, definitely comfortable
40:12 flat shoes is ideal. Fantastic. And the
40:14 shorts are great because, you know, it is
40:16 going to start to warm up here. It's been
40:18 beautiful outside right now but just in
40:19 case it does start to get warm, those
40:20 shorts are a good deal. Shorts are great and
40:22 also the dark color. I love like, you know,
40:24 a dark navy blue or this black because
40:27 if you're sitting in the grass again or
40:29 even the seats, they might be a little
40:30 dirty. So, you don't want to wear like
40:31 white or beige that might get dirty or
40:33 get grass stains on it. That's a great
40:34 point. Yeah, this whole look is great.
40:36 Love the jacket. Love the shoes. All right.
40:37 Thank you so much. Let's bring out our
40:39 second model. And this is Vera. And the
40:43 navy with pink is really on trend this
40:45 spring season. We're seeing a lot of that.
40:46 I love this skirt she's wearing. It is
40:49 actually a golf skirt but it is so
40:51 perfect for something like spring
40:52 training because there are actually
40:54 shorts underneath. So, if you're sitting
40:55 in the grass, you don't have to worry
40:57 about flashing anybody but you can still have a
40:59 cute little skirt that you can wear. And
41:01 obviously, this is like a sweater
41:04 tank so it's kind of like still kind of
41:06 cool but, you know, can keep you a little
41:07 warm if it's a little breezy out.
41:09 That's great. And the whole look is very,
41:11 in my opinion, kind of that preppy look
41:13 which is definitely coming back right
41:15 now. So, again, talk about her shoes
41:16 because these are super cute. Yeah, these
41:18 are super cute and they're comfy and
41:20 they're flat and so that's great. But
41:22 they're also very fashionable and
41:23 trendy. So, and I think with the sporty
41:25 skirt, it really works with the sneakers.
41:27 And the other thing is you definitely
41:28 want to do hats or sunglasses at spring
41:31 training. Great point. Depending on where
41:32 you're sitting, you might really have
41:33 that sun in your eyes and you want to
41:35 make sure that you're not squinting and
41:37 struggling because there's, you know,
41:38 especially in the lawn, there's no shade.
41:39 So, you want to make sure that you've
41:40 got your eyes covered. That is a great
41:42 point. Hat is a great option. You're
41:44 covering your face, you're not getting
41:44 too much sun exposure. But if you don't
41:46 have that, you can always rock a cute
41:47 pair of sunglasses. Alright, I love this.
41:49 Let's bring out our last model. Next up,
41:52 we have Zade. Can't forget the guys. Oh,
41:55 yes. Obviously, something comfortable. I
41:58 love, again, layers, doing a jacket. This
42:01 is all World to Fear which is a local
42:03 designer. Okay. And so, we've got shorts
42:05 so that you're comfy. I would probably
42:07 not do this time of year in Arizona
42:08 jeans. But again, check the weather
42:10 before you head out. But he's got a
42:12 t-shirt on and then a jacket over it and
42:14 then, of course, a hat to keep that sun
42:15 out of your eyes which is great. Okay, so
42:17 I love this whole look because honestly,
42:19 I thought he was sporting a different
42:22 brand on his hat. But it does say Fear
42:24 on the hat and on the back of the
42:25 jacket if you don't mind turning around
42:27 again for us. This is really, really cool.
42:29 Such a fun look. Sporty but also kind of
42:32 like got a street style going to it. And
42:34 again, with those comfy shoes. So, very
42:35 fashionable but also functional. Yes, that's
42:37 great. Okay, this whole thing is
42:39 fantastic and Cynthia, tell everybody
42:40 where they can find more information
42:42 about you and some more inspiration for
42:44 spring training. Yeah, so you can go to

42:54 great. Alright, guys, make sure you tune
42:55 in to that. Let's get all our models in
42:57 the row so that we can get one last look
42:59 at these beautiful outfits. Looks great,

43:24 winners heading to the state championship
43:26 when I can't even speak right. They're
43:27 going to have me test my spelling. I'm so excited for this.
