00:00 "The real reason for The Rock's 20 minute promo on social media, an AEW star has gone
00:05 from the company and my review of last night's Monday Night Raw.
00:09 Listen up Slapnut, this is the WrestleTalk News."
00:18 Before last Friday's Smackdown, Rock "The Dwayne" Johnson released a 16 minute video
00:23 to social media, which he then deleted, and uploaded an even longer 21 minute director's
00:28 cut that ran down Cody Rhodes, his dog Seth Rollins, the Cody Crybabies and a whole lot
00:34 more with a whole lot of swearing.
00:36 It was a tremendous promo that was a great reminder of why The Rock is the Great One
00:41 and one of the best promos of all time, especially when he can just let loose and be heel rocky.
00:47 And it built to a Smackdown segment that went nearly 40 minutes in total, which reportedly
00:53 went 10 minutes over time according to Fightful Select, which meant that Naomi's match with
00:57 Tiffany Stratton was cut short and some other things were cut entirely.
01:01 Which is hilarious if Dave Meltzer's latest report is to be believed.
01:06 When discussing the promo on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said that those in WWE told
01:11 him that the reason The Rock did a 21 minute promo to promote his 40 minute promo on Smackdown
01:17 was because he was told he wasn't going to be given enough time on Smackdown.
01:23 Meltzer initially didn't believe what he was being told, so according to him, he asked
01:27 someone "high up" in WWE and they said it was true.
01:31 Meltzer was told Rock can't get as much time as he wants, because apparently 40 minutes
01:37 just wasn't enough.
01:39 Meltzer also notes in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE are now seeing The Rock's
01:43 heel turn as a blessing in disguise as it's drawn so much more media coverage and attention.
01:48 He also notes that because of the reaction and media coverage that The Rock has been
01:52 getting since coming back has meant he will probably do more now and stick around post-WrestleMania
01:57 to set up his eventual match with Roman Reigns.
01:59 Over to AEW now and following their spectacular Revolution PPV on Sunday, there was a surprising
02:06 yet not all that surprising bit of news.
02:09 Fans noticed that Mike Santana had been removed from the AEW roster page, and Fightful Select
02:14 were able to confirm that he is officially done with the company, finishing up with AEW
02:19 last week.
02:20 Some people add that Santana hasn't been seen at an AEW show for months following a
02:24 turbulent final year or so with the company.
02:27 He tore his ACL during the 2022 Blood & Guts match and missed over a year of action before
02:32 returning for the Stadium Stampede match at All In last year.
02:35 He feuded with his former tag partner Ortiz, who he had a real life falling out with, and
02:40 beat him on Rampage in October.
02:41 He's not been on TV since, despite still being an active member of the independent
02:46 scene.
02:47 When Ortiz signed with All Elite Wrestling there was a tremendous amount of buzz about
02:50 them as they were an exceptional team, who had had tremendous success in TNA as the new
02:55 version of LAX as well as on the independent scene.
02:58 However, that was never truly captured in AEW, with the pair being part of Chris Jericho's
03:03 inner circle and never capturing tag gold in the company.
03:06 But in other news, Monday Night Raw Season 4 is coming back this Friday and Pete Quinnell
03:10 had some things to say about that yesterday, so now it's time to hear from me and my
03:14 expectations for this season.
03:16 Oh Scene Queen, you marvellous, marvellous, magical human being.
03:21 Your music has carried me through this series.
03:25 Oh hello there.
03:27 I'm actually glad that you're here and that I'm listening to Scene Queen, because
03:30 Scene Queen has carried me to exactly where I want to be in the Monday Night Raw.
03:36 You see, people think that I've been making mistakes, making simple errors, making stupid
03:44 choices, making thicco deluxe decisions.
03:48 And that is where you have got it wrong, because I have been playing 4D chess this entire time.
03:56 I'm not on a quest for first, I've been where I've always been destined to be, second.
04:04 And now I am on a path for the four Pete of second place.
04:10 And this time it won't be last place.
04:14 Say it with me now everyone, the rallying cry of Monday Night Raw.
04:20 Second place, second place, second place, second place, second place, second place,
04:29 second place, second place, second place, second place, second place, second place,
04:32 and now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the 'just watch Smackdown'
04:37 edition of Monday Night Raw, in about 5 minutes.
04:39 After a big recap of the Rock and Bloodline promo from Smackdown, Cody Rhodes opened this
04:43 week's edition of Raw to bring out Seth Rollins for their response.
04:47 Seth said that he had a story of his own to finish, and he wants to make sure that Roman
04:50 Reigns doesn't get all the power he desires in WWE, and again reiterates that he has Cody's
04:56 back.
04:57 He even came up with a new name for The Rock, Diarrhea Dwayne.
05:00 Yes, it's lame, but that's also the point.
05:03 It's supposed to sound lame as it's a jab at The Rock and the sort of childish nicknames
05:07 he comes up with for people.
05:09 Seth even hammered that point home by saying The Rock hasn't been cool for 20 years.
05:13 He added that he'll be on Smackdown this Friday, and Cody said he will do the same.
05:17 So the TL;DR version of this 20 minute promo was, "Watch Smackdown this Friday for, presumably,
05:23 another 20 minute promo."
05:24 Which, you know, is fine, but it sort of made this portion of this excellent pro wrestling
05:28 story feel like when I was having arguments with people on forums in the mid-2000s.
05:32 And you know, sometimes you'd have to wait a couple of days to get a response from the
05:36 person in another country that you're arguing with, and then you'd get caught up with something
05:40 like your school studies or university studies, and then it'd take you a couple of days to
05:43 respond as well.
05:44 Gunther beat Dominik Mysterio like he owed him money, and it was everything you'd want
05:48 the match to be.
05:49 Gunther dominated, Dom got in some lucky moves and some flukey near-faults, and Gunther murdered
05:53 him with chops, powerbombs and Boston Crabs.
05:56 Five stars.
05:57 However, the bigger talking point out of this was that both Michael Cole and Pat McAbee
06:00 shouted out Sting in his final match at AEW Revolution, which was a very classy move.
06:06 Cody made a reference to it in his opening promo, but this was a full-on acknowledgement
06:11 of the match.
06:12 Isn't it nicer when everyone just gets along?
06:15 Shayna Baszler and Zoey Starnt beat The Party Girls in a final match, with Damage Control
06:19 watching from ringside.
06:20 They'll have a tag title match next week, despite Damage Control already having a tag
06:23 title match for tonight's NXT.
06:26 Guess we know who's winning that one then, eh?
06:28 The rest of the women's tag scene had various conversation in one larger scene about not
06:31 getting on, with Candice LeRae insulting Maxine Dupree and Indi Hartwell apologising for her.
06:36 Becky Lynch and Nia Jax were having a very good match until, as I predicted last week,
06:40 Liv Morgan caused a DQ and argued with Becky after the match.
06:44 Nia laid both of them out, and backstage Becky and Liv argued some more to make a match for
06:47 next week, while Rhea laughed at the whole situation.
06:50 I'm glad that Liv is getting some focus heading into WrestleMania, but I feel like
06:54 it's distracting from the Becky vs. Rhea match at WrestleMania.
06:57 Unless, of course, it is going to end up being a fatal four way at WrestleMania, and if it
07:01 does that would beg the question, what was the point of Elimination Chamber then?
07:05 Speaking of focusing on WrestleMania, and we now have some direction for the Intercontinental
07:09 Championship.
07:10 After being decimated by Gunther, Dom was being checked on by Judgement Day and Damian
07:14 Priest told JD McDonough that he needs to take care of this Gunther problem.
07:18 We also had Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura chat with Adam Pearce about wanting their
07:22 shots at the title, and Pearce announced that on next week's show it will be a six man
07:26 gauntlet match to determine the number one contender to Gunther at Mania.
07:30 Ricochet vs. Chad Gable vs. Sami Zayn vs. Bronson Reed vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. JD
07:35 McDonough.
07:37 Sami cut a promo saying that his Rocky Story WrestleMania path has been revealed.
07:41 Which would really set him up to be the winner for next week.
07:46 However.
07:48 Chad Gable cut a promo on Gunther later in the show about him making his child cry with
07:52 a smile on his face last September, so he wants to take that smile and put it on his
07:57 little girl.
07:58 For the others it's just about the title, but for him it's so much more.
08:03 Listen, I love Sami Zayn and I want to see him get a big match at WrestleMania, but is
08:07 anyone else wanting Chad to win next week?
08:10 His story - though it has been ignored since last September - is so much more interesting
08:14 than Sami Zayn's Rocky angle that WWE have been having him do.
08:18 Let's hear it in the comments, Sami or Chad?
08:21 What do you want?
08:22 Andrade made his return to Raw, as did Apollo Crews, and the former beat the latter in about
08:26 three minutes.
08:27 Thanks for coming Apollo.
08:28 Andrade seems to be interested in luring Dom away from Judgment Day.
08:31 Speaking of Judgment Day, and they beat Imperium in a tremendous match.
08:35 But if you'd book this on MyGM mode on WWE2K24, Triple H would send you an email the following
08:40 week admonishing you for booking a heel vs heel match and it would have really hurt your
08:43 drama curve.
08:44 But it actually works IRL.
08:46 They basically let the crowd pick a side, and that crowd decided to go with Judgment
08:50 Day who played up as being babyfaces and Priest got the win with the South of Heaven.
08:54 Michael Cole explained that Priest's new gimmick is that he's pissed off.
08:57 He's pissed off because people don't think he'll ever cash in the briefcase or be a
09:02 world champion.
09:03 And later on in the show, Re-Generation X played 2K24 and Miz said he wanted to go for
09:07 those tag titles.
09:08 They announced Paul Heyman for the Hall of Fame and Drew McIntyre called Seth Rollins
09:11 a spotlight junkie who's ignoring both Raw and the World Championship, both of which
09:15 deserve better.
09:16 Once again, tell him when he's telling lies.
09:18 Sami Zayn beat Ivar in a fine little match with most of the focus being on Michael Cole
09:22 being given the Atlas by Valhalla and Bronson Reed attacked Sami after the match.
09:26 And the main event saw Drew McIntyre pin Jey Uso after a distraction from Jimmy Uso.
09:30 Sola Sokoa had also come out but he was chased off by Cody Rhodes, and Drew used the Jimmy
09:34 distraction to hit the Claymore for the win.
09:36 Again taking advantage of the Bloodline distractions, but that was not the focus of his character
09:40 for this week as Seth flew past him to take out Jimmy and Drew used this lack of focus
09:45 on him to hit the Claymore and stand tall.
09:48 It capped off a very entertaining but entirely missable episode of Monday Night Raw.
09:53 The wrestling was good, the promos were good, the show was good, it's just Smackdown appears
09:56 to be the focus right now.
09:58 This week's Raw is 3 out of 5.
10:00 Ahead of the launch of Season 4 of Monday Night War this Friday on partsFUNknown, check
10:04 out me and Pete getting our first look at the new and improved My GM mode.
