Analyzing whether the San Francisco 49ers will trade for New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.
Transcript
00:00 Here's another trade the Niners can make. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Jets
00:06 would be interested in trading Zach Wilson for a 6th or 7th round pick. Any team that trades for
00:13 him would have to also pick up his contract with back 4 or 5 million dollars. And Jeremy Fowler
00:17 listed the Niners and Rams as teams that would make sense. What do you think? Should the Niners
00:22 trade a very late round pick for Zach Wilson? When you have 11 picks and you need a backup
00:29 quarterback, the Niners essentially paid, was it Sam Darnold's 5 million dollars in contract?
00:35 About the same. About the same.
00:36 About the same. I think Kyle preferred Zach Wilson over other quarterbacks in that draft
00:44 class. I think that's why he ended up pivoting towards Trey Lance. I don't think everyone likes
00:48 to say Mac Jones. I think it was really Zach Wilson. He trains with Kyle's really good friend,
00:52 John Beck. So Kyle knows inside on Zach Wilson. I definitely think Zach Wilson would be much
01:00 better in this offense with weapons. I think he could put up similar numbers to the Niners
01:05 quarterbacks we've had in the past, including Brock Purdy with these weapons. We also got to
01:09 look at New York Jets. What was that? Similar skill set, similar build. Absolutely. And you
01:15 would get the Jets offense. They have not done Zach. They never did Zach Wilson any favors.
01:22 They truly didn't. Obviously, drafting Garrett Wilson was actually one of them,
01:26 but his offensive coaches were terrible. In my opinion, the floor, the younger and hack it.
01:32 Yeah, that's never, never, never really catered to him. So if you're talking a six or seventh
01:40 round pick and you need a backup quarterback, why not? Like if you really need, for example,
01:45 if Brock Purdy goes down, you at least could see what Zach Wilson is. I think he'd be a better
01:50 option than signing a free agent to be your backup quarterback better than Brandon Allen,
01:54 in my opinion, because you at least have Donald. I would personally keep Donald. I think Donald is
02:01 better, but it's probably going to get a little bit more because he showed
02:05 some flashes. So you might see Donald go to a team that actually needs a quarterback and get
02:10 an opportunity to compete for a starting job. Huh? Interesting. Well, how about this?
02:17 How about Mack Jones? Is he available? What do you think he'd be worth?
02:20 I wouldn't touch Mack Jones. I should be honest with you guys. Essentially you're not,
02:26 I don't think Mack Jones has the arm talent. I don't think he has the, the
02:30 foot talent ability, like the speed, anything like it's not coachable. He's great.
02:37 I don't know. I definitely wouldn't. I would, if I had to do, if I got, if I had to choose
02:43 between Zach Wilson and Mack Jones for a six or seven round pick, I'm 100% taking
02:48 Zach Wilson because of the arm talent, the mobility, like he has all the traits that Kyle
02:56 was looking for. But the thing is how developed is he? Did he really learn behind Rogers? Like,
03:02 is there a Benny benefit that he got from any of that? So definitely would look at that aspect as
03:08 well as obviously Kyle knows John Beck enough. So something to watch. I think it would be a little
03:15 arrogant on the Niners part because how are they good at developing quarterbacks or are they just
03:21 luck out with Brock Purdy? Did, did Sam Donald improve under them or is he Sam Donald still?
03:26 I don't know. It'd be like, I'd like to see the Niners trade for Zach Wilson and take on this
03:30 project. I mean, what the jets felt is that Wilson couldn't hit the layups. Nine is going to give
03:36 him a lot of labs. Maybe the jets are wrong. That's actually a good point. I mean, the layups
03:42 are more of the issue than anything else. And it's, that's what they felt, but the thing is
03:47 those layups are coming with Devo, Samuel, George Kittle, Brandon, are you not point? Oh, buddy.
03:52 A lot easier to throw to talent than it is to throw to try to make talent.
