00:00 Brandon Parker.
00:01 Offensive tackle came from the Raiders, seems to be replacing Matt Pryor on
00:07 the Niners roster.
00:08 We all remember the Matt Pryor era.
00:10 It was phenomenal.
00:11 What do you think of Brandon, the Brandon Parker era?
00:13 Well, he's only slightly better and more interesting than Matt Pryor.
00:19 I mean, he's a huge guy.
00:20 He's six foot eight, 310 pound offensive lineman, 35 inch arms.
00:27 He played at North Carolina A&T and, um, you know, the, the guy, his father
00:35 played offensive line at, for North Carolina in the early 1990s.
00:39 Now his coach in high school, his offensive line coach was Ron Mattis,
00:43 who played in the NFL for eight years.
00:45 Um, and you know, he's, he's an interesting prospect because he's got, you know, he's
00:51 six, eight with ridiculously long arms, but he's never quite been what anybody's
00:56 wanted, and if you look at the way he grades out, he hasn't graded out well,
01:00 according to pro football focus.
01:01 So, you know, he is kind of like Matt.
01:05 I think you said it perfectly.
01:06 Matt Pryor was this offensive lineman who had played in the league, hadn't
01:11 played particularly well, but he wasn't a rookie and he did have some experience
01:15 and that's what he brought to the table.
01:17 And now Pryor's moved on and they've gone to Brandon Parker, who
01:20 basically fills the same role.
01:22 I don't think he's good enough to beat out Colton McKivitts.
01:25 And if you're not good enough to beat out Colton McKivitts, you know, I mean, at
01:29 this point, what are we talking about?
01:31 I think they're going to find a real tackle or two in the draft would be my guess.
01:35 I'm just looking them up now.
01:37 I'm seeing that he played five games last year.
01:39 So why I'm looking Brandon Parker is that he was on IR.
01:44 Yeah.
01:44 He's had brought him back at the end of the year, I guess.
01:47 Right.
01:48 He's had injuries.
01:50 Okay.
01:50 You know, he's, he's had some moments.
01:53 I mean, he's like, he's like a scout stream.
01:56 If you look at him, you're like, oh man, look at this guy.
01:59 You know, he's got all the, you know, he's the, um, you know, he's,
02:03 he's, he's the son of a coach.
02:05 Third round pick in 2018.
02:07 You know, there's a lot to like, and he, you know, he was a four year starter in
02:11 college and, and, you know, he's got good hands and he can slide his feet and he's
02:16 got, you know, decent movement, long arms.
02:20 Then you flip on the film and you realize that, man, there's no consistency.
02:25 The footwork is totally uneven.
02:28 Um, anybody who's got like strong, active hands, he struggles against
02:33 body controls, just okay.
02:35 Um, he's, he's got long arms, but he doesn't get the most out of it.
02:40 You know, it's just, he doesn't strike with consistency.
02:43 He doesn't play with consistency.
02:45 So, um, but he, he is a six foot eight long armed offensive tackle who, um, once
02:54 upon a time was the third round pick.
02:55 So, you know, somebody liked him.
02:57 He's got some potential.
02:59 It just, I don't think he's, I think he's just veteran stop gap just in case
03:03 they can't find somebody in the draft.
03:05 Well, I'm seeing that in 2022, he played 17 games, started 13 for the Raiders.
03:14 And this isn't PFF, but I mean, I don't know how much stock you put into PFF as
03:19 opposed to other grading places.
03:21 Like CIS data hub is another one and it's free.
03:24 And they have a thing called like total points earned.
03:27 I don't know how they calculate it.
03:28 Not, I don't know if it's better or worse than PFF, but they
03:31 liked Brendan Parker in 2021.
03:33 So that's two years ago.
03:35 I guess he didn't play much.
03:37 Did he play in 2022?
03:39 No, he didn't play in 2022.
03:41 He only played five games last year.
03:43 So who knows what he has left?
03:44 I guess you're sort of taking a flyer on a guy who had a solid season two years
03:49 ago and he's still not 30 yet.
03:52 Yeah.
03:54 And, you know, he's a healthy, he's a healthy, I mean, you know, here's the
03:58 bottom line, like offensive tackles.
04:01 You know, you're not going to find those guys walking around, so you better have
04:05 a, you better have like a good depth plan and he's six, eight, he's now 320 pounds.
04:11 He has experience in the league.
04:13 You know, it's like if you put them out there, he's not going to wet down his leg.
04:17 I mean, he's played some ball in the NFL.
04:19 I mean, he's, he's had, he's had experience in the NFL.
04:23 He's he hasn't had consistent success, but he is six, eight with long arms.
04:29 And, and if they feel like, um, for sure can teach him something, but I still
04:33 think this doesn't change anything.
04:35 I think I still believe they're going to look hard in the offensive, the
04:39 offensive tackle spot in the draft.
04:41 I hate to think it changes something.
04:42 I mean, I'm looking into Brandon Parker, got a little draft pedigree, started
04:47 some games, he's not terrible, but is better than Colton Kivitz.
04:51 I don't think so.
04:53 I mean, Colt McIvitts is nothing is nothing special, but I don't, I
04:57 think Parker's less than McKivitts.
05:00 Right.
05:01 So he would be a backup to McKitt for, uh, an upgrade for McKivitts.
05:06 And that's a little crackly right there.
05:09 I'm getting a little bit of a.
05:10 Let me close some tabs.
05:12 I have like 14 tabs open.
05:13 That usually does it too many tabs at one time, too many tabs.
05:18 Is that better?
05:18 Yeah, it is.
05:19 Yeah, it is better.
05:20 Okay.
05:21 So look, I think it would be kind of a disheartening if the Niners stood Pat
05:27 at a offensive tackle with Brandon Parker and Jalen Moore as their backups.
05:32 Yeah, no, I mean, they, the 49ers only have a four, but they have a
05:38 49ers only have a few needs at this point because of free agency.
05:42 And those needs are offensive tackle.
05:45 Um, you know, maybe offensive guard, maybe center, you know,
05:51 if you're not a Brendel guy, but you know, definitely the right side
05:54 of the offensive line is a major, major question mark for them.
05:57 And then who's going to be the third quarterback, maybe a backup, uh, one
06:03 more receiver, if you could find somebody who is really dynamic, they
06:07 could help Brock out, um, and then.
06:09 You know, you could make an argument.
06:12 They're pretty fortified, but like whatever best player available
06:15 they see on the defensive side, they could use maybe one tackle, one
06:19 end, one linebacker, one safety, one corner, you know, uh, maybe.
06:24 And, and maybe some of those guys could be day three guys.
06:27 Some of them could be after the draft guys, but they, you know, they've
06:31 pretty much done a lot of their free agent work on the defensive side, but
06:34 they can maybe use one guy per, per spot there on defense, but the real
06:40 need is, you know, the offensive line center, right guard, right.
06:43 Yeah.
06:46 I'm going to say something.
06:47 I got a, I got a wild statement here.
06:50 I'm I agree with you.
06:51 I don't think this changes anything.
06:52 I think that the noise, a little bit more crackle.
06:56 I got a little more, more crackle.
06:57 It's crackle.
06:59 All right.
07:00 Let me get rid of all these.
07:03 Okay.
07:04 I think we're better.
07:05 I'm going to say my theory while I fix the crackle.
07:11 I'm going to say my theory.
07:12 I'm gonna come back to it a little bit later.
07:14 Okay.
07:16 No, I'm going to cast it.
07:17 And is the crackle gone?
07:18 Yeah.
07:19 Is the crackle gone?
07:20 Yeah.
07:21 Okay.
07:22 I think the, the extension for McKibbets and this signing is total smokescreen
07:28 city, and I still think they're looking for an offensive lineman, offensive tackle.
07:33 I think they knew that everyone that everyone expected them to be in the
07:36 market for one, and they tried to throw us off.
07:38 I think you're trying to throw us off Larry smokescreen.
07:42 Just make sure that you don't have teams targeting you as the team they have to
07:48 trade in front of for a particular tackle.
07:52 I think they just, I'll look, I think they look at it this way.
07:56 I don't think Shanahan really believes too many rookies at all on the
08:00 offensive line can really plug and play step right into the thing and play.
08:04 So I think he's got two approaches.
08:06 I think they've got the approach of let's get ready to play week one.
08:10 And that was re-signed Feliciano re-signed McKibbets, you
08:16 know, fortify with veterans.
08:18 And then I think they, they are going to utilize this draft because it's a great
08:23 draft for offensive centers, guards, and tackles, I think this, they're going to
08:27 build their offensive line of the future.
08:30 At least with two picks, maybe as many as three in this draft.
08:35 And, um, and I, and they may not come with the first pick may not come at 31.
08:41 It may be in round two and three.
08:43 I think some of the best offensive linemen are in the middle rounds,
08:46 not necessarily the guys up top.
08:48 So, you know, um, but I really think that they're thinking short term right now, but
08:55 when it comes to the draft, they'll think long-term on that offensive line.
08:58 I want to push back a little bit on the notion that Kyle wouldn't, or doesn't
09:05 want to start rookies on the offensive line.
09:07 Um, he did it with Burford.
09:09 He did it with McGlinchey and I mean, McGlinchey was never great, but he was
09:13 always kind of the same good run blocker, shaky pass protector, but he's
09:17 a good run blocker, shaky pass protector.
09:19 The offense was fine with him out there as a rookie.
09:21 I think the Niners would start a rookie at right tackle if he's good.
09:25 And I think the thing about this draft is it's supposed to be really good
09:29 at offensive tackle, and I think they should be able to find a right tackle.
09:33 Who's better than Colton McKibbitz and Brandon Parker.
09:36 I think they can do it.
09:37 So I think there's no doubt they can.
09:40 Yeah.
09:41 So I think that's why it's a smoke screen.
09:43 I mean, they're not, they, they extended Colton McKibbitz, but for one year,
09:46 not a serious extension you brought in Brandon Parker.
09:48 He's played five games in the last two seasons.
09:51 You're still looking for a right tackle.
09:53 Aren't you?
09:54 Aren't you?
09:55 I see right through it.
09:56 Can't put that past.
09:57 I see a smoke screen.
09:58 I can smell it.
09:59 It's that time of year, Larry got smell the smoke screens.
10:02 Well, and then the other thing is this just be, you know, there, I expect all
10:08 for Shanu, Fuaga, Latham, Mims, Morgan, maybe even Guyton, I expect six or seven
10:15 offensive tackles to go off the board before they pick, but I just think that
10:19 if you prepare this way and you fulfill, you fill the spots with veterans, if you
10:26 get to 31 and suddenly seven or eight tackles are off the board, but you're
10:32 staring at Xavier Leggett, who had six, three, two 30 ran in the four threes.
10:38 Or you're staring at, you know, some receiver that you love Brian
10:42 Thomas from LSU, or maybe Ladd McConkie.
10:46 I don't know who they fall in love with.
10:48 Um, you know what Malakai Corley or something like that, you're staring
10:52 at a receiver you love or another position that you love and you, you
10:57 can go best player available because I think there's 15 tackles in this
11:01 draft that are pretty damn good.
11:03 And you might be able to get, get your guy in round two.
