00:00 From 44th Street in Camelback, this is the Arizona Daily Mix.
00:06 And it all starts right now.
00:09 Right now. Right now. This very moment. Right now.
00:14 On this Monday, March 4th.
00:17 This is Arizona Daily Mix. I am Brad Perry. And I'm Lexi Romano.
00:21 Okay, this is pretty cool because today on the show, Paradise Valley City Lifestyle Magazine
00:27 is showing us the inside of their March edition of the magazine.
00:32 And of course, talking about who's on the cover there, the man, the myth, the legend himself, Mr. Randy Johnson.
00:37 Yeah, you gave us a little sneak peek of that last week.
00:41 But yeah, now we actually have him here to talk all about it.
00:44 Yeah, and we are all about giving back here on the Mix.
00:48 And the non-profit, Panda, is telling us how we can help with just a cup of lemonade.
00:55 You know how they say, you know, in life, if you make lemons, you make lemonade.
00:59 And that's what they're doing over at Panda.
01:01 Yeah, and it's awesome. So we got lemonade, cool, refreshing drink.
01:05 Yummy. Yes. And some donuts.
01:08 And then later in the show, I sit down with some of the folks from the new film, Ricky's to Nikki.
01:15 And you don't want to miss this interview. And it's one of two.
01:18 But this one is with one of my, I don't know if he's like my hero, but I just like his acting.
01:24 He's very good. Andrew Centino.
01:27 And he's from Dave and a couple other things. But this movie right here, I will say--
01:32 I haven't heard of it, but I like the name.
01:34 Yeah, Ricky's to Nikki.
01:35 Anything that's, you know, rhyming.
01:36 So, well, you know, all right, we'll wait until later.
01:40 Don't give it away yet.
01:41 Yeah, not going to give it away yet, but then we're going to--
01:42 People got to come back to watch.
01:43 Yeah, we're going to ask some questions about it, maybe get a chance.
01:45 But speaking of movies, this past weekend, I was over in Catalina Island.
01:50 I was going to say, what'd you do this weekend, Brad?
01:52 So I actually went to Bear Grylls. Do you know Bear Grylls?
01:56 Bear Grylls is like the survivor guy. Like, he teaches, he trains everybody, he has movies.
02:01 He takes people out and drops them in the middle of nowhere with literally a compass.
02:05 And then you got to find your way home, scavenge yourself and everything like this. It's crazy.
02:09 Is this like, I don't know, do you get to wear clothes at least?
02:11 Yes, we did have clothes on for this.
02:13 But what it is, it's part of the movie Arthur the King, which is after this amazing book here.
02:18 Which Mark Wahlberg stars in, coming out March 15th.
02:22 But it's about a group of guys-- well, a team, because there's also a woman in there too.
02:27 And they do these like, extreme races.
02:31 And so this was based on a book--
02:34 Based on this book?
02:35 This book here, right here, yes.
02:37 Of doing some extreme races.
02:38 So we went over there for the junket and we had to do all this extreme stuff.
02:42 From, let's see, zip mining, which I'm scared of.
02:46 And we did it over in Catalina Island.
02:48 Right, which you were saying is so beautiful. I mean, I haven't been to Catalina since I was a little kid.
02:53 Yeah, and listen, flew into Long Beach, got on the Catalina Express, got there, it was like an hour boat ride.
03:00 Very nice and smooth. And then got to the island and it's beautiful.
03:02 I haven't been there in a long time either, but it was really friendly, great.
03:05 I really suggest if you're looking for a summertime getaway, Catalina Island is the place to go.
03:09 So we did, so we were going through there and they have all this stuff that they had us do.
03:13 One, this plays a big part in the movie and this is pretty much meatballs.
03:18 So, meatball pasta plays a big part in the movie and we had to eat this and make it.
03:23 Okay, well how did you make it? Tell us all about it.
03:26 You know what, you're going to find out when I show you the clips.
03:29 I'm going to do a story on the whole thing, so I can't tell you.
03:31 Oh, well do we have clips of it?
03:33 Not yet, not yet.
03:34 We're just teasing it today, Phil's crew.
03:36 Well, I had a whole film crew out there. It was like I was in the movie.
03:39 It was really cool.
03:40 Cool.
03:41 I did survive the academy. I got an official hat.
03:44 Let's get a close up on this guys.
03:46 There goes the official hat.
03:47 He survived and all he got was this hat.
03:48 Yep, that's it.
03:50 But there was something I did eat.
03:53 Is this like fear factor status?
03:55 Yeah, yeah, it was really.
03:57 Wait, no, you've got to tell us.
03:59 Wait, let me guess, let me guess.
04:01 Grasshopper?
04:02 Mmm.
04:03 Snake?
04:04 Mmm.
04:06 It's worse than snake?
04:08 Oh yeah.
04:09 No, you've got to tell us now.
04:10 You know what, you're just going to have to find out.
04:12 Brad!
04:13 When I do the story.
04:14 Come on!
04:15 So you want to keep watching.
04:16 Give us a hint.
04:17 A hint?
04:18 Was it a quadruped, a biped?
04:20 It's something that I will not probably do again unless I was out there and I had no other choice.
04:26 You had no meatballs left.
04:27 I had no meatballs left and I had to eat something after maybe 20, 30 days.
04:31 The meatballs are gone.
04:32 You're desperate.
04:33 Rat? Was it rat?
04:35 Let's just say this.
04:38 I feel like I hit the nail on the head there.
04:40 If there were cameras there, I wouldn't have done it.
04:42 You would have just starved.
04:43 I would have just starved to death.
04:44 Well, starved to death.
04:45 That was it.
04:46 But we'll say the getaway was getting over there and fun.
04:48 I mean, yeah, that sounds great.
04:50 Catalina, I haven't been there since I was a little kid.
04:52 But yeah, I remember it being great.
04:55 I definitely remember though the boat ride was not smooth when we went.
04:59 So I think it kind of just depends on your day.
05:01 I went on the evening one, so it was like a 6.30 gap there, the water was smooth.
05:06 And you know, I saw the Queen Mary, the ship.
05:08 That was really good in Long Beach.
05:10 But I've never flown to Long Beach before.
05:11 Have you? I mean, when you go back, I guess not.
05:13 Yeah, I don't know if I've ever flown into Long Beach,
05:15 but I used to spend a lot of time out in Long Beach because it was like an easy jaunt over from Orange County area.
05:21 So yeah, Long Beach was cool.
05:23 It was really nice being over there.
05:24 But the island was great.
05:25 I ziplined, which was very, as you guys know, how I am about height.
05:29 Probably couldn't even get off the trapeze.
05:31 Oh, right, right, right.
05:33 I was laughing at you.
05:34 We're going to have to have a list.
05:35 We're going to have to have a whiteboard with a list of birds, trapeze, rats, snakes, rats.
05:42 Anything like that.
05:43 But yeah, blonde haired women, dark haired men, loud children.
05:50 It was good.
05:52 That sounds great.
05:53 So yeah, I'll have the story on that coming up next week.
05:57 So it's going to be good.
05:58 But coming up, we're going to be talking about how a cup of lemonade can change lives
06:03 when the show that's all good, the Arizona Daily Mix, returns after this.
06:07 Love it.
06:08 Sometimes giving back can feel overwhelming.
06:25 But what if I told you all you had to do was purchase a cup of lemonade?
06:29 Well, the folks from Panda are here to talk about their annual Lemonade Stand Day.
06:33 Welcome, everyone.
06:35 Hi, how are you?
06:36 Hi, guys.
06:37 We're so excited to have you all here.
06:38 Thank you for having us.
06:39 Yeah, so Ashley, we're going to start with you.
06:41 Okay, this is such an incredible thing that you are doing.
06:44 Tell us how it got started.
06:46 Oh, man, it's a beautiful story.
06:48 One of our founders, Penny Gunning, her neighbor actually unfortunately lost a child to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
06:55 And it just sparked something in her that she felt like there was something more that could be done.
06:59 Fast forward to--that was in the '80s.
07:01 Fast forward to 1999 when Panda, our board, came to be.
07:05 And now we're celebrating 24 years with almost 200 women that have been on our board.
07:10 Oh, my goodness.
07:11 Congratulations on that.
07:12 Thank you.
07:13 That is absolutely incredible.
07:14 And tell us what Panda stands for because it's kind of an unusual name.
07:18 Yeah, it is.
07:19 It's an acronym for People Acting Now Discover Answers.
07:22 And we believe, like, whatever we do now is going to really help children in the future.
07:26 Definitely.
07:27 Yeah.
07:28 Definitely.
07:29 And something I was reading about, you guys, that's so cool is you are all about children helping children.
07:34 So this isn't just about the moms.
07:36 Obviously, the moms are all involved.
07:37 Everybody is so, you know, supportive and behind this.
07:40 But this is really about the kids helping other kids.
07:43 So before we get to our awesome stars here, tell me a little bit about how, for a mom,
07:47 how does that make you feel to see your family and your kids helping out and doing this?
07:51 I'm so glad you asked that question.
07:52 And to be honest, it's something that really drew me to the board when I was first nominated for myself to go on.
07:58 There is just something about raising up the next generation of children who want to give back.
08:04 And that creates adults that want to give back, and we can actually make a healthier future for kids.
08:09 But to see our kids, my son and some of my friends' kids here today, and this isn't just their first time helping.
08:15 I mean, they've been at multiple lemonade stands.
08:17 They walked in our Panda fashion show last year.
08:20 And now here they are this morning.
08:21 And I did hear someone say that maybe they were happy they're missing school a little bit.
08:25 But ultimately, they're here because they do definitely want to help kids.
08:29 They know the importance of some of us have siblings who have needed Panda's help in the past.
08:35 And for all of us, we have friends that someday will probably need the same.
08:38 Definitely.
08:39 But I love it.
08:40 And you said something about raising up the next generation, that they will eventually become adults who give back.
08:44 So this is about changing the world because we really can do that, especially as adults.
08:49 But also when we get our kids to be involved.
08:52 Okay, guys, so I want to talk a little bit to you guys because this is really about you.
08:56 This is your guys' thing.
08:57 It's kids helping other kids.
08:59 So, Roman, we're going to start with you.
09:01 Tell me a little bit about how it feels to be involved with the lemonade stand.
09:04 It is really cool because we get to help other children, and we are kids to just help other children is really cool.
09:11 Definitely.
09:12 Because they need it more than we do.
09:14 That's really cool.
09:15 Well, thank you for what you do because it's really, really awesome.
09:17 How many years have you been involved?
09:19 About three years.
09:20 Really cool.
09:21 Congratulations.
09:22 Thank you.
09:23 Thank you for being here.
09:24 I'm going to move over here.
09:25 Harper, right?
09:26 I'm sorry.
09:27 We keep playing back and forth.
09:28 No, no, no, I'm sorry.
09:29 Harper, tell me about how it is for you.
09:30 What's your favorite part?
09:31 Well, it's just so amazing, and I love, yeah, like the concept where you get to like--it's children helping children, which just feels so amazing.
09:37 And I do know people that do need the help, and it just feels really nice that we get to like be a part of it and that we get to help people,
09:44 which really does feel like amazing, and that's probably my favorite part.
09:48 It is one of like the best days of the year, and, yeah, it's just like really amazing that we get to help other children.
09:53 Okay, so how many years have you been involved?
09:56 Yeah, probably around three or four years.
09:58 Very cool.
09:59 And how old are you?
10:00 I am 11.
10:01 She's only 11, so she's been doing this for four years already.
10:03 That's incredible.
10:04 Okay, Leo, we're going to come over here to you.
10:07 You have a panda in your hands, which I love, but, Leo, what do you love about it?
10:11 I mean, do you like the lemonade or do you like the donuts?
10:13 What's your favorite part?
10:14 I really like the donuts.
10:17 Of course, absolutely.
10:19 How many years have you done this?
10:21 Is this your first year?
10:24 Yeah.
10:25 Your first year being involved?
10:27 That's so cool.
10:28 Do you make the lemonade?
10:29 No.
10:31 That's okay.
10:32 I wouldn't either.
10:33 I would buy it.
10:34 All right, Leo, thank you so much for being here.
10:35 We love the panda.
10:36 All right, Ashley, so remind everybody when Lemonade Stand Day is happening.
10:40 So it's going to be in the next few weeks.
10:42 It's on March 24th.
10:44 And one of the things I do want to point out, too, is since we are a local board,
10:48 we have incredible companies and sponsors that have come on to really join us in our efforts.
10:54 One of those is Walt Danly Local Luxury, Christie's International Real Estate,
10:59 and then Sprouts Healthy Communities.
11:01 So they help us, and they've actually made the contact for us with Dan's Ice and Lemonade.
11:06 And this is a local family-owned business, and they supply all the lemonade that day for us.
11:11 So when it's fresh, it stays refrigerated.
11:13 So as much as we probably love the good old day, you know, mixing lemonade,
11:17 we know that we're getting excellent lemonade for sure.
11:20 100%.
11:21 Well, thank you to all of those companies who are involved.
11:23 This is just so, so, so special.
11:24 So what I want to do is I want all of us here to have a glass of lemonade,
11:27 and we're going to do a cheers.
11:29 You got it, guys.
11:30 You got it?
11:31 Leo, I'll hand you one.
11:32 There you go.
11:33 Harper, you can take this one.
11:34 I've got yours.
11:35 I'll take this last one.
11:36 All right, guys, so it's happening March 24th.
11:37 Make sure you guys get involved because we all need some tasty lemonade, right?
11:41 Definitely.
11:42 Cheers.
11:43 Thank you all for being here.
11:44 Thank you so much.
11:45 All right, stick around, guys, because coming up, we're getting an inside look
11:48 at the Paradise Valley City Lifestyle magazine in March.
11:50 Come on back.
11:51 Cheers.
11:52 [music]
12:05 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
12:07 is sponsored by Paradise Valley City Lifestyle magazine.
12:13 Our friend of the show, Nadine Buback, is making a monthly appearance,
12:16 giving us the scoop on what's inside the latest issue
12:19 of Paradise Valley City Lifestyle magazine.
12:21 Today she's here to chat about March's home issue, which is really cool,
12:25 and also we're going to talk about the cover story because it's very interesting.
12:28 And she has a special guest with us.
12:30 We'll talk to them in just a moment because I'm going to be buying a house today.
12:34 Anyways, Nadine, how are you?
12:37 I'm good, Brad.
12:39 This is our March home issue, and we got to go home with Randy Johnson.
12:43 Yeah, that is so cool.
12:44 It was amazing.
12:45 We were at, of course, the party that you did, and I'm so proud of you, Nadine,
12:49 because we've known each other for a long time, and your dream was to bring light
12:53 to the community in storytelling and stuff, and you're doing it.
12:57 But so is Randy Johnson.
12:59 So, you know, he's more than just a World Series winner.
13:02 He's more than that.
13:03 He actually is an avid traveler, and his passion is for photography.
13:09 And that's what he spends his time doing.
13:11 He travels all around the world and takes photos everywhere.
13:15 And, in fact, you can go view his photography exhibit for free in Old Town Scottsdale.
13:20 But we did celebrate.
13:22 We did celebrate Randy, the big unit.
13:24 The big unit, yes, we did.
13:25 At Dominick's last week.
13:26 We had a great party.
13:28 So many of our partners and friends showed up.
13:30 Dominick's was awesome.
13:32 You were there.
13:33 Randy Johnson even came.
13:35 And it was just such a good time to celebrate the community and our magazine supporters.
13:40 It was very awesome, and everyone coming through there.
13:42 And as we mentioned about Randy, too, you've got to pick this up, because people don't realize,
13:46 like, Randy went to school for this.
13:49 And so he was doing this before he was playing baseball, but everyone thought,
13:51 "Oh, well, he's doing this as something in retirement."
13:54 He worked for the Trojan at USC.
13:56 And that's what he started doing.
13:58 But he does have a great story of his favorite memory playing baseball.
14:02 He said, you know, he grew up in Northern California, and it was Little League Day.
14:08 And, you know, Little League Day, all the kids parade around the field.
14:12 Fast forward so many years, and he's playing at the Oakland Stadium in the MLB,
14:18 and he looks out, and he sees all the kids parading on Little League Day.
14:22 And he goes, more than anything, that was his moment that he will never forget.
14:27 Just that feeling of little kid to big dreams.
14:30 Yeah, that is so awesome.
14:32 And, again, he's a great guy here in the Valley, stays here and everything.
14:35 But I want to give one credit to your husband.
14:37 To Nate?
14:38 Yeah, Nate. He's a great supporter.
14:40 This guy is just so awesome.
14:42 But I'm a bigger supporter. It's Katrina Barrett. Trust me.
14:45 She's a way bigger supporter.
14:47 I'm just saying, and Nate's out there with you, because this is, again, your baby that you are doing,
14:51 especially with all your kids and stuff.
14:52 And you said you reached out to the community,
14:54 and that's where we come in now talking about the home issue, which is really cool.
14:59 Arizona is so exciting right now.
15:01 In case you didn't catch the Wall Street Journal article,
15:04 Arizona, or Paradise Valley, is becoming the new Beverly Hills.
15:08 But we're better than that.
15:09 We are better than that.
15:10 And currently, we have a $50 million listing located on the backside of Cameldale.
15:16 $50 million.
15:17 It's hillside.
15:18 And Sayota was the architect.
15:21 And Bratton is the local boots-on-the-ground architect.
15:25 Nice. And this is just rendering now.
15:26 This has not been built yet.
15:28 It's in the way of being built.
15:30 This is hillside.
15:31 It's one of the largest hillside envelopes available.
15:34 And it's got some really cool features.
15:37 One of the best features is a very showy garage, which seconds as a full-size basketball court.
15:43 Who has that hillside in Cameldale?
15:45 It doesn't exist.
15:46 No.
15:47 With that view.
15:48 When you mention Cameldale, tell people exactly where it is.
15:50 Some people might wonder, "Okay, wait. We have Camelback Mountain, but where is this located?"
15:53 So, it's the north side of Camelback.
15:56 And, in fact, the Lincoln and McDonald Corridor is kind of considered the Gold Coast of Arizona.
16:03 Yeah, houses being built just right and left up there.
16:05 And so, how many square feet is this one, do you know?
16:07 This one has an option to be 17,000 square feet or 11,000 square feet.
16:12 It could even be chopped to 7,000 feet.
16:15 Because it's yet to be built, there's some design options, including a living wall or rammed earth.
16:22 But there is a multi-million property.
16:24 There is.
16:25 One. Ready to go?
16:26 There is. Ready.
16:27 Ready?
16:28 Ready for you, Brad.
16:29 This is what I'm looking for.
16:30 What do we got?
16:31 There is one home that actually exists, built in Paradise Valley for $40 million.
16:35 It is 23,000 square feet under roof, 27,000 square feet total.
16:40 Has a guest house, an underground gun range, and an indoor pickleball court.
16:45 And it's ready.
16:46 It's ready to go?
16:47 It's ready.
16:48 Most of the homes that are listed in Arizona are actually, the highest end ones are sold on a rendering.
16:53 They don't yet exist.
16:55 This exists, and it's down a private driveway in between Casablanca and Wilkinson.
17:00 Extremely desirable, 2.6 acres, soaring views of Mummy Mountain.
17:05 Couldn't be better.
17:07 Is there an RV area?
17:08 Because I have an RV.
17:09 Can I park the RV there?
17:10 Are you really getting that detailed right now?
17:11 So, the RV.
17:12 I mean, you're really ready to jump in on this.
17:14 I think so.
17:15 How much do I need to put down?
17:16 This is a private compound.
17:18 Private compound.
17:19 Yes, you could charge it.
17:20 Like, ballpark if I wanted to put it down.
17:21 If I wanted to drop the American Express right now, how much could I?
17:24 Yeah, what is the down payment?
17:26 What's the down?
17:27 A down payment?
17:28 Yeah, what's the percentage when someone's looking like this?
17:30 So, this would be a cash purchase.
17:32 Cash purchase.
17:33 More than likely.
17:34 All right, no problem.
17:35 Go get your wallet.
17:36 It is one of the most expensive finished houses in the market.
17:40 It is the most expensive home that is a finished home in Paradise Valley.
17:45 And where can we get ahold of you to buy it?
17:47 Katrina.a.barrett.
17:49 Follow me on Instagram.
17:51 Say your company name because it's a long one.
17:53 Walton and Lee Local Luxury, Christie's International Real Estate.
17:56 I like it.
17:57 All right, definitely.
17:58 We'll talk.
17:59 We're buying houses.
18:00 We're going to Randy's house.
18:01 We're having a good time.
18:02 They didn't tell where they could find the magazine.
18:03 Follow us on Instagram at Paradise Valley City Lifestyle.
18:06 Thank you, Brad.
18:07 Thank you, too.
18:08 Thank you.
18:09 All right, stick around.
18:10 We have more of the mix after this.
18:11 Don't go anywhere.
18:12 We're going to talk.
18:13 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored by Paradise Valley City
18:20 Lifestyle Magazine.
18:27 This is the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:30 All right, welcome to the second half of the Arizona Daily Mix.
18:38 That's what I do to Arlo when he's in his bouncy seat.
18:44 I get all excited.
18:45 He jumps up and down.
18:46 Still to come, if you're having a hard time, quote unquote, eating the rainbow, well, we
18:54 have some tips to help you succeed.
18:56 It even involves pasta.
18:57 It doesn't involve Skittles, though.
18:59 No.
19:00 See, that's the rainbow we're talking about.
19:01 This is the rainbow.
19:02 Not the other way.
19:03 What's the old saying?
19:04 Taste the rainbow.
19:05 No, but what's before that?
19:06 It's taste the rainbow, catch the rainbow, catch the rainbow, taste the rainbow?
19:12 Taste.
19:13 But what's the catch phrase?
19:14 There's like a whole...
19:15 I think it's just taste the rainbow.
19:16 I thought there was more before it or after it or something.
19:21 No, I think that's it.
19:24 There's more, I'm telling you.
19:25 I'm looking it up.
19:26 All right, look it up.
19:27 Where's your phone?
19:28 Come real quick.
19:29 All right, while I do this one.
19:30 Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, so why not make it your
19:37 best and smile?
19:38 Best and smile max, 365 is here to help.
19:41 So there you go.
19:42 All right, we're smiling there as we're looking through it, which is pretty cool.
19:45 And also while you're looking through, I'll talk about you going to a spring training
19:48 game.
19:49 Because spring training's back in the valley.
19:52 And CW7 Spinato's Pizzeria and Family Kitchen, our team would have to send you out to the
19:55 ballpark and all you have to do is simply head over to aztv.com/win and enter your chance
20:01 to score four tickets to a game.
20:03 There's nothing better than a day at the ballpark with the family and thanks to Spinato's for
20:07 making it all happen.
20:08 So pretty cool for them to do.
20:09 Okay.
20:10 So here's the update.
20:11 All right.
20:12 So the taste the rainbow is obviously like the main part of it, but then they have another
20:16 part that's blank the rainbow.
20:19 So for example, eat the rainbow, taste the rainbow.
20:22 Got it.
20:23 So there's something out there, that was the catch.
20:25 Because that's what I'm thinking of in my head.
20:26 It's like, see the rainbow, taste the rainbow.
20:29 Eat the rainbow, taste.
20:30 There's like another thing in there.
20:32 So it's like, there's more than just taste the rainbow.
20:34 Yes, taste the rainbow.
20:35 Buy the rainbow, eat the rainbow.
20:36 Buy the rainbow.
20:37 Taste the rainbow.
20:38 You know, actually when I was leaving back at the Catalina Island, when I was leaving,
20:43 the rainbow happened because it was raining over there and it was really cool to see it
20:46 fall over the island.
20:47 Oh yeah, but that's beautiful.
20:48 Oh my gosh, it's nice over there.
20:50 Well, you know, it's kind of gloomy out today here.
20:52 I mean, we got like some clouds in the sky.
20:54 It's kind of, I walked out this morning, I was like, oh, it's so pretty.
20:57 Like I love when we kind of have gloomy weather.
20:59 I know, we should enjoy it because you know what happens, probably when we got another
21:02 week before, all of a sudden it's like 200 degrees outside.
21:05 So but, I know.
21:06 Makes me sad.
21:07 But we were looking through here because again, we just had Nadine on from the Paradise Valley
21:12 City Lifestyle Magazine.
21:14 And in there she has actually some spring break's getaway because actually spring break
21:17 is starting for kids in the valley.
21:19 Yeah, it is.
21:20 Coming up.
21:21 Yep, in March, beginning of March.
21:22 Absolutely.
21:23 So I don't know, some getaways to, dude, what about you?
21:25 Where did you get, where would your family go for spring break when you were younger?
21:27 We didn't really go anywhere.
21:29 We kind of just, I don't know, we were in California so we would go to the beach a lot.
21:33 I mean, I grew up like going to the beach all the time, pretty much on a regular basis.
21:39 So we didn't really travel a lot.
21:41 We also didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up so it was very like, what's
21:44 the cheapest way to have a vacation?
21:46 I don't know, what about, you were in Chicago so you were somewhere cool.
21:49 I was in Michigan.
21:50 Michigan.
21:51 Sorry, sorry, sorry.
21:52 And back in my day, I don't think we really had spring, maybe they had it, I didn't realize
21:55 it because I worked.
21:56 I mean like my parents had us working in the yard or we'd go to my grandparents and we'd
22:00 work in their yard, you know, doing their garden and stuff.
22:03 So that was our spring break.
22:04 There you go, got to earn your keep.
22:05 I believe my parents called it camp because we didn't have a lot of money either too and
22:08 so I think that was like, oh you're going to camp.
22:10 I'm like, oh cool, let's camp.
22:11 What are you going to learn how to cut the grass today?
22:13 Cut the grass.
22:14 You're just outside.
22:15 That's camp.
22:16 And that was, back in those days, that's how I think we spent our spring break was going
22:19 to a friend's house and be gone until the porch light came on.
22:22 Yeah, it didn't always have to be some big event.
22:24 It was just you're on spring break and you're just hanging out.
22:26 Yeah, so alright, let's get to some trending brought to you by Gerber Injury Law where
22:31 we were talking.
22:32 Oh, is that what we're doing?
22:33 So thank you to Gerber Injury Law for the trending that we just talked about.
22:37 Yeah, thank you, I guess that's what we were doing.
22:38 Spring breaking and stuff like that, so yeah.
22:39 There you go.
22:40 But what we are going to get to is our amazing lineup that we have coming up.
22:45 Oh, toss it to me?
22:46 Never mind, just toss it.
22:47 Alright, hey, Ricky Stickey is a laugh out loud comedy about childhood friends who create
22:52 a fictional character and best friend that has become a decades long lie and that goes
22:57 too far for these guys and I talked with two of the stars, Andrew Cettini and Jermaine
23:01 Fowler about the movie.
23:03 Ricky's been there for you guys your whole lives.
23:07 The demos and the details, my friend.
23:08 It worked.
23:09 Hey, here we come.
23:10 What we got?
23:11 Ricky's cancer is back.
23:12 Why does it have to be cancer?
23:13 Won't everybody get worried?
23:14 Yeah, and that's going to take us right into the World Series.
23:17 This movie is not a buddy movie.
23:22 This is a guy's movie because we know a guy's movie, you know, I got your back.
23:28 Buddy movies are like, oh, we'll stick together.
23:30 This movie right here is so crazy.
23:32 So Andrew, when you saw the script, did you knew going into this that, listen, I get to
23:36 kind of like stick up for my buddies?
23:39 Yeah, I mean, when I saw the script, I thought this is a perfect old school version of a
23:49 best friend comedy trying to get themself out of probably one of the biggest embarrassing
23:55 pickles they've ever put themselves in.
23:58 It was like a return to a great old comedy.
24:00 And when I first read it 10, 12 years ago, whatever it was, I was excited to see who
24:07 they were going to put as the three best friends and wouldn't you know it, I'm one of them.
24:16 And you, Zac Efron, it was a great combo.
24:19 Yeah, it's a good distinction between buddy comedies and guy comedies, right?
24:23 Like, yeah, comedy is about the chemistry is like they're tolerating each other.
24:27 Right.
24:28 And the guy comedy is like, yeah, you know, these dudes for a minute and you want to root
24:31 for him, you know, so yeah,
24:33 you did.
24:34 And I gotta ask, Jermaine, come on, bro, we've been in this situation where we had to make
24:40 up a friend.
24:41 Am I right?
24:42 No.
24:43 No, we begin to ask these sort of questions were like, did you grow up with an imaginary
24:51 friend?
24:52 Like, what's the biggest lie you've ever told?
24:53 I can't honestly, like, I cannot relate to this movie at all.
24:58 This is a huge, this is extreme movie, you know, which is why it's so funny.
25:02 But as far as like coming up with like a lie like this, it is insane.
25:07 The part that's more relatable is that you'll do whatever you can to protect your friends
25:13 and to protect, to protect, you know, the people you care about the most, even if it's
25:21 doing something stupid, like creating an alibi.
25:24 I want you to admit that Ricky Stenicki does not exist.
25:27 Let's talk chemistry.
25:33 You said something that's very important, the three of you having this chemistry together
25:36 and plus all the other cast members that played a part in it.
25:39 But was the chemistry already there?
25:41 Or do you guys have to hang out a little bit and then get it there?
25:43 I think you gotta start with the people.
25:46 Andrew's cool.
25:47 He just, you know, he's awesome.
25:49 Zach is amazing.
25:50 Zina is wonderful, you know, and they all came to set and brought that wonderful energy
25:55 and it wasn't hard to work with them all.
25:58 So it worked out.
25:59 It all just it was fun to come to work and make this movie with.
26:02 Andrew, I love is that you have a history of having these kind of raunchy moments through
26:07 all you know, I love Dave and all the different stuff you've done.
26:10 And I think you hit it on the nail of being one of those guys that literally was like,
26:14 dude, I'm here to have fun.
26:16 Yeah, I'm here to have fun, man.
26:18 And honestly, I think this movie is for dudes and dudettes alike.
26:24 And Jermaine, again, to your character, both you guys like just hit it right on the nail
26:28 of just having that friendship and sticking up for each other.
26:31 That's what life's about, man.
26:33 Thank you.
26:34 Yeah.
26:35 Thank you guys very much.
26:36 Thanks for joining.
26:37 Thanks, man.
26:38 Ricky's the best friend we never had.
26:44 It's a great fun movie.
26:47 And it's of course, comes out March 8th.
26:49 Yeah, crime.
26:50 So Ricky, Snicky and I have to ask you maybe tomorrow if you ever made up a makeup print
26:54 or somebody like that to get you out of trouble.
26:56 I mean, it is a good idea.
26:58 I like it.
26:59 Yeah, it looks great.
27:00 All right.
27:01 Coming up, we are talking with five time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin about disease
27:05 and the need to be aware of when the mix returns.
27:16 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored on behalf of Otsuka America
27:20 Pharmaceutical Incorporated by KEF Media.
27:26 March is National Kidney Month.
27:28 To recognize the importance of kidney health, I talk with Olympic gold medalist and retired
27:32 pro swimmer Missy Franklin about how the kidney disease ADPKD has affected her own family.
27:41 Good morning, Missy.
27:44 How are you doing today?
27:47 I am so great.
27:48 Thank you so much for having me this morning.
27:51 We're very happy to have you because this is a very important topic with it being National
27:56 Kidney Month.
27:57 And this is something that really is important to you and your family.
28:01 So let's talk about ADPKD and what it is and again, how it's affected your family's life.
28:09 Yes.
28:10 So it can be a bit of a mouthful.
28:11 So we shorten it to ADPKD, but it's autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
28:17 And it's a rare genetic condition that causes cysts to form on the kidneys that eventually
28:22 leads to a decline in kidney function and requires a need for dialysis or a transplant.
28:27 So ADPKD runs in my father's family.
28:31 So in addition to my dad, some of his siblings and my grandparents were all diagnosed with
28:37 ADPKD.
28:38 And I remember those early conversations with my parents that my dad lived with a genetic
28:43 kidney disease, but I don't think at the time I fully understood what that meant.
28:47 So when my dad's health really started to decline in around 2019 due to his ADPKD, it
28:53 was definitely a hard time for my family and myself.
28:56 Yeah.
28:57 Wow.
28:58 This is amazing because we hear about diabetes going through, you know, fam and stuff and
29:01 something like this we really don't hear about.
29:03 And that's why you're bringing this to the forefront.
29:05 So let's talk quickly about your dad.
29:07 Is he still dealing with it and how's he doing?
29:10 Yes.
29:11 Well, thank you so much for asking.
29:13 So we were so fortunate in that he was on the organ donor list, but those can take years.
29:20 And so we started our own search for a living kidney donor.
29:23 And in August of 2022, my dad successfully underwent transplant surgery.
29:29 And it was the day of the surgery.
29:31 This is the best part of the story that we learned that the living donor was another
29:36 Olympic gold medalist in swimming.
29:38 Her name is Chrissy Purham.
29:40 And we had no idea who she was beforehand.
29:42 She didn't know us.
29:43 She was just a perfect match for my dad.
29:45 And out of the goodness of her heart, donated one of her kidneys to him.
29:49 And both my father and Chrissy are doing fantastic.
29:52 And Chrissy is now a part of our family.
29:54 Wow.
29:55 That is so amazing having two gold medalists together in the family in a special way, which
30:00 is so great.
30:01 That's crazy.
30:02 So let's talk about why this is so important for families to get checked out to talk about
30:09 this and see if they do carry this disease.
30:12 Yes, absolutely.
30:15 So throughout our family's journey with this, I just began to truly understand the importance
30:19 of disease education for those affected by ADPKD or another kidney or genetic disease.
30:26 So our major encouragement is just to have the conversation about family health history
30:32 with your family to see if there are any diseases like ADPKD that could potentially be there.
30:37 And then you're able to be proactive and speak and work with your doctor and health care
30:42 providers about different ways that you can identify those diseases.
30:45 And we know those conversations can be hard to have, but they are so important because
30:50 we know that early detection can make a big, big difference.
30:53 Yeah, very important for people to do.
30:55 Okay, let's switch gears really quick here and talk a little about you.
30:58 I know you retired from swimming.
31:01 This is one of, again, your big missions here.
31:03 What else are you up to?
31:04 Yes.
31:05 Oh my gosh, so much.
31:07 So on top of working with the OTSCA American Pharmaceutical Inc. to bring awareness to
31:12 a topic as important as this, I am a mom to a two and a half year old.
31:17 So she's essentially my full time job, but I'm also a public speaker, a motivational
31:21 speaker.
31:22 So I still do a lot of appearances and engagements, which I love.
31:25 I work with several nonprofits, including the U.S. Sea Swimming Foundation and the Laurier
31:29 Sport for Good.
31:30 And I just started a podcast called Unfiltered Waters with my fellow Olympic teammate, Katie
31:35 Hoff.
31:36 And we're including conversations and having guests that are Olympians and Paralympians
31:40 that are sharing their stories and their journeys with us.
31:43 Oh man, that is so great.
31:44 Do you ever get out here to Arizona since, you know, we have some guy, I think he's got
31:49 a couple of medals.
31:50 I think his name's Michael.
31:51 I think something like that.
31:52 I don't know if you know that swimmer guy.
31:55 Kind of from New York.
31:58 We're actually dying to.
32:00 It's been amazing.
32:01 Of course, we've kept up with everything that Coach Bob Bowman is doing over there at ASU
32:05 and the amazing athletes that are there training right now.
32:09 And we've had several of them on the podcast, which is so fun.
32:11 But I think we're going to have to make a journey out there in person to visit your
32:15 beautiful state and to get all the amazing athletes you have out there on our show.
32:19 I love it.
32:20 Well, we'd love to have you on here.
32:21 Not just talking about, of course, swimming, but talking about this great journey you and
32:24 your family has been sharing with people to get checked out, especially for this type
32:29 of kidney disease.
32:30 So, Missy, we thank you for joining us this morning.
32:33 Absolutely.
32:34 And for anyone listening, you can go to adpkdquestions.com to learn more.
32:39 Thank you so much for your time.
32:42 Thank you, Missy.
32:43 Absolutely.
32:44 Thanks so much.
32:45 The preceding portion of the Arizona Daily Mix was sponsored on behalf of Otsuka America
32:52 Pharmaceutical Incorporated by KEF Media.
32:55 Making sure you eat a selection of fruits and veggies can be hard to accomplish in your
33:10 day-to-day life.
33:12 But registered dietician, Erica Barrera, is here with some great tips and a delicious
33:16 recipe that will have you eating the rainbow.
33:19 We're not talking about Skittles.
33:20 Welcome, Erica.
33:21 Thank you for being here.
33:22 Thank you for having me.
33:24 So March is National Nutrition Month, which is why I'm here.
33:27 So I'm so excited to be talking about the rainbow when it comes to fruits and vegetables.
33:31 Yeah.
33:32 So break this down for us because Brad and I earlier in the show were talking a little
33:35 bit about, you know, Skittles and taste the rainbow and all that.
33:38 But we're definitely not talking about Skittles.
33:40 We are talking about the array of different colors you can see in all these natural foods.
33:46 So talk about what we have on the table here.
33:48 Yes, exactly.
33:49 So I brought today some spring and winter vegetables since we're technically still in
33:54 winter and we're approaching spring.
33:57 So on the top, we have our red and our orange vegetables and fruits.
34:01 And these are going to be great for not only our eyes, but our skin and our brain health
34:05 as well.
34:06 OK.
34:07 In the green and yellow, we have some broccoli, some lemon, asparagus.
34:13 These are going to be great for the protection of cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance,
34:18 and even cancer.
34:19 Oh, wow.
34:20 And then the blue and purple group are going to be our anti-cancer nutrients there.
34:25 OK.
34:26 And I feel like everybody forgets about the colors of the browns and the beige and the
34:31 whites.
34:32 Yeah.
34:33 So you should see we have some onion.
34:34 We have some beautiful leek here.
34:35 Garlic, mushrooms.
34:37 Those are going to be important for anti-inflammatory.
34:40 That's such a great point because I think we naturally think the more colorful, the
34:45 better the fruit or vegetable is going to be for you.
34:48 But we do have some great tan or white vegetables, like you just pointed out.
34:51 I know garlic is super, super great for anti-inflammatory, like you were saying.
34:55 But something else that's great that is kind of a tan color is our pasta here.
35:00 We're making a delicious pasta primavera.
35:02 Yes, we are.
35:03 OK.
35:04 So I'm Italian and I'm always eating pasta.
35:05 As am I.
35:06 So I decided on pasta primavera because it's a spring pasta.
35:10 Yeah.
35:11 However, I added vegetables from the winter season.
35:15 That's what we were just talking about, is that this is kind of more of your fall/winter
35:19 style veggies.
35:20 You get some root veggies in there, brussel sprouts, some onions it looks like.
35:24 Some butternut squash.
35:25 Delicious.
35:26 All right.
35:27 Tell us how we would go about starting this guy out.
35:30 Yes.
35:31 So we're going to start off with vegetables.
35:32 So any vegetables that you have at home or want to have, you can slice them up, put it
35:38 in a mixing bowl, add some olive oil, some salt, pepper, garlic powder.
35:43 And then you're going to add that to a baking sheet and roast it at 450 degrees Fahrenheit
35:50 for 20 minutes or so.
35:51 OK.
35:52 So this is that end product of that roasting process.
35:54 It looks beautiful.
35:56 While it's cooking, you're also going to make some pasta.
35:59 So here I have some fafale pasta, some butterfly.
36:02 Some fafale pasta, like Giada would say.
36:06 Yeah, fafale.
36:07 Looks great.
36:09 And then once both of them are cooked, you're just going to mix them both.
36:14 And so since here we have a little bit cold, we're going to add just a little bit more
36:19 of extra virgin olive oil.
36:21 So those healthy fats for our heart health.
36:24 Yes.
36:25 Olive oil is so good for you.
36:26 OK.
36:27 Perfect.
36:28 So that's going to help mix it up a little bit better.
36:30 And then now to add just more freshness to this recipe.
36:35 Do you like arugula?
36:36 I love arugula.
36:37 Yes.
36:38 And we're going to sprinkle on some arugula if you want to help.
36:40 Absolutely.
36:41 Arugula is my favorite leafy green because it has this peppery, bitter taste.
36:46 And it's a great addition to like sandwiches, pastas like this.
36:49 Would you mix it in?
36:50 Yep.
36:51 We're going to mix that right in.
36:52 Delicious.
36:53 And then I'm also going to put some cherry tomatoes.
36:54 Yes, I love cherry tomatoes as well.
36:55 Because what's pasta without tomatoes?
36:57 You're totally right.
36:58 Yes.
36:59 And there's also lycopene in tomatoes, which is, again, another anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory
37:05 benefit.
37:06 Perfect.
37:07 And then our last step on here, because we're running out of time, is going to be our cheese.
37:11 Because you can't have pasta without some Parmesan cheese, baby.
37:16 And then do you do a little bit of the lemon on top?
37:19 So I get a zester, and just to add some citrus.
37:23 And we're just going to zest the lemon.
37:24 That looks great.
37:25 All right, guys, stick around because we have more of the mix coming up after this.
37:29 Thank you so much, Erica.
37:30 This looks beautiful.
37:31 Yes, of course.
37:32 Wow.
37:32 The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix is sponsored by SmileMax 365.
37:44 Believe it or not, your teeth have many functions throughout your day.
37:50 Well, Dr. Espinoza from SmileMax 365 is here to tell us just how important those functions
37:55 are.
37:56 So, Dr., you know, it's amazing that our mouth is the gateway to our other health problems
38:02 that we have.
38:03 That's right.
38:04 We don't realize that.
38:05 Because, you know, with our mouth, we are tasting food, we're putting things in it,
38:07 and it can lead to a lot of different things we don't take care of.
38:09 Am I right?
38:10 That's right, Brad.
38:11 For some reason, the man upstairs made the mouth really hard to take care of.
38:15 And if we're not taking care of it daily, brushing twice, flossing, plaque bacteria
38:19 is always building up in our mouth.
38:21 And even if we do brush and floss, we can still come down with periodontal disease and
38:27 tooth decay if we're not seeing our dental professional on a regular six-month basis.
38:32 So the mouth is warm, dark, and moist, a perfect breeding ground for growing germs.
38:38 And when these germs get out of control, that's when things go bad.
38:42 Yeah, and one thing that goes bad in that is our teeth.
38:45 And that also is a problem because people stop eating the proper way or they're putting
38:49 on one side of their mouth, which is not good.
38:51 And that's where you come in to help them out with implants.
38:54 That's right.
38:55 Implants can let people be them again.
38:57 They can eat the foods they want.
38:58 They can smile.
38:59 They can eat properly.
39:00 We're supposed to eat with our teeth and chew the food because that's where digestion starts,
39:05 Brad.
39:06 And if we're having problems chewing, then we're not digesting right.
39:09 And if we're not digesting and eating the right foods, then we're going to suffer from
39:12 malnutrition.
39:14 And then we get malnutrition, and that's where disease kicks in.
39:16 Yeah, and people are pretty much scared to go see the dentist about an implant because
39:20 they think of the old days where someone got it done, they're hurting, of course.
39:24 They don't want that kind of problem.
39:25 But you guys do it differently.
39:26 And the great part about it is that it's no longer in the good old days where they pulled
39:30 all your teeth to give you one good one.
39:32 No, not like that.
39:34 You guys do it a little different here.
39:35 We do it a lot different, Brad.
39:37 We're minimally invasive.
39:38 So our mini dental implants are less appointments, less time, less invasive, and less painful
39:45 and less cost.
39:47 I like that.
39:48 Can you talk very quickly about, of course, the different ways that people can get a great
39:52 smile?
39:53 Yeah, sure.
39:54 I'd love to.
39:55 Yeah, so a great smile starts with, it could be one tooth that's throwing somebody off.
39:58 And we can do that with a small mini dental implant, and then we place a tooth here.
40:03 Sometimes, Brad, people are missing several teeth.
40:06 And we can replace those teeth.
40:08 We have several teeth here.
40:10 And they can't, this is when they can't only chew on one side.
40:12 They can't chew on both sides.
40:13 But they have teeth on the other side.
40:15 And so we can replace mini dental implants, place permanent crowns.
40:19 These go in permanent, Brad.
40:20 They don't come out.
40:22 And then the patient can chew like they chewed before when they had regular natural teeth.
40:27 I love it.
40:28 Okay, let's talk dentures.
40:29 Because again, I remember my grandmother's dentures being in the glass next to the bed.
40:33 Mostly, yeah.
40:34 They're very uncomfortable.
40:35 Yeah, they're really big pieces of plastic.
40:37 It's like sticking a credit card in your mouth.
40:39 Not fun every day.
40:41 So what we have is we place four to six mini dental implants.
40:45 And we attach your denture to it right away, just like that.
40:50 And then the roof of the mouth is open here, Brad, unlike your grandma's denture.
40:55 And so the roof of the mouth's open.
40:57 That's important because we have taste buds on the roof of our mouth.
40:59 And we like to feel the ice cream when it gets hot over here, or the hot cocoa when
41:03 it gets cold when you're eating and drinking stuff.
41:06 You can feel it on the roof of your mouth here.
41:08 Okay?
41:09 Wow, okay.
41:10 I like that.
41:11 And then we have the lower.
41:12 The lower slips around a lot for folks.
41:14 And so we place four to six mini dental implants there.
41:17 And then we stabilize the lower denture that's always loose.
41:19 And people are always wearing glue and goop.
41:22 And that's just no good.
41:23 Because sometimes they swallow it and it can plug up your system.
41:25 It's no good.
41:26 Yeah, no good.
41:27 So then they can smile out loud again.
41:29 Okay?
41:30 I like that.
41:31 Now, the next level is when people want their teeth again.
41:34 This is zirconia teeth.
41:35 And you can see it's a lot less coverage in the roof of the mouth.
41:40 And they can come out once a year and we can clean them.
41:43 We place six to eight mini dental implants and it's zirconia based.
41:48 So it feels like, to the patient, it feels like having teeth again.
41:51 Wow, that's amazing.
41:52 Okay?
41:53 And then the top option for folks is the zirconia roundhouse.
41:59 So that's a full roundhouse.
42:00 We place 10 to 12 implants there, mini dental implants.
42:04 And then we permanently cement and it never comes off.
42:08 So that's it.
42:09 They're done.
42:10 Good.
42:11 I like this.
42:12 And of course, it's not very hard to do, people.
42:13 It's easy to go sit with you, talk with you.
42:16 Because also, you guys help them financially.
42:17 Because I know that's what a lot of people worry about when it comes to dental care.
42:21 That's right, Brad.
42:22 We offer all of our audience out there a free consultation.
42:26 No hassle, no push.
42:28 We just educate you.
42:30 We like to listen to our patients, see what's going on.
42:33 And then we offer a solution that is best tailored to their needs.
42:37 And then, obviously, everyone says it's expensive.
42:41 And we make it affordable.
42:42 We have monthly financing options that I know we can find some sort of option to make this
42:48 affordable and help people change their life.
42:52 I like that.
42:53 Have that smile back.
42:54 Doctor, thank you very much.
42:55 Thanks, Brad.

43:34 It looks delicious.
43:35 I'm going to try it.
43:36 It's tasty.
43:37 That's really, really good.
