00:00 - The following portion of the Arizona Daily Mix
00:02 is sponsored by Simply Divine Nutrition, LLC.
00:06 - From crunchy to smooth,
00:08 to eating it with apples or jelly,
00:10 everyone will have opinions on how they like
00:11 to eat peanut butter, especially me.
00:13 But one thing is for sure is that it's delicious
00:16 and nutritious, and registered dietitian Brooke Baird
00:19 joins us in honor of National Peanut Butter Day.
00:21 And welcome, Brooke, how are you?
00:24 - I'm good, how are you?
00:25 Thank you for having me.
00:27 - Well, this is awesome.
00:27 Okay, before we get started, I gotta ask,
00:30 are you crunchy or smooth?
00:32 - I love both, but I am crunchy.
00:36 - That's great.
00:36 All right, let's talk about peanut butter
00:38 and how it is very good for us to have in our diet.
00:41 - Yes, so peanut butter is a great source
00:46 of plant-based protein,
00:48 and it is also rich in healthy fats.
00:51 It has oleic acid and omega-6 fatty acid,
00:55 which actually helps maintain good cholesterol
00:58 and blood pressure.
01:00 - I like that.
01:01 Okay, let's talk also too about making some great dishes
01:04 for this month and making sure that you're enjoying it
01:08 on this day in different ways.
01:10 And so I know you have some ideas there for us, don't you?
01:12 - Yes, so I have here three of my favorite snacks
01:16 using peanut butter.
01:18 So we can start over here with these Snickerdates.
01:23 I am so happy to be partnering with Natural Delights
01:27 for this recipe.
01:29 So dates are full of fiber and natural sugars
01:33 so they won't spike your blood glucose level.
01:37 Peanut butter and dates are like a match made in heaven.
01:41 This combo is like eating your own personal candy bar,
01:45 except for better for you ingredients.
01:48 So this is one of my all-time favorites.
01:50 - I like that.
01:51 And we have like a date area that we can get right here
01:54 in Arizona and then put it with the peanut butter.
01:56 So I like that idea.
01:57 - Yes, and you can find these at Sprouts,
02:02 but they're at a lot of your local grocery stores.
02:04 But Sprouts is where I have gotten a lot of my dates.
02:09 - I like that.
02:10 So we got Sprouts right down the street.
02:11 I'm gonna get some.
02:12 All right, what's next on the menu?
02:14 - So these are pretty popular.
02:16 These are no-bake energy bites.
02:19 These make a perfect grab and go snack.
02:22 And they are made with ingredients
02:24 that you probably already have in your pantry.
02:26 So all you need for these are oats,
02:29 peanut butter, honey, and chia seeds.
02:33 - That's it.
02:34 And you know what's so interesting, Brooke, is that-
02:36 - Chips, and chocolate chips, if you have-
02:38 - You know, Brooke, what's so interesting is that
02:40 these are becoming very popular with, I mean,
02:43 people taking them to work
02:44 and putting them in the kids' school lunches.
02:46 'Cause like you said,
02:47 they're very easy to do and very healthy for you.
02:49 - So easy and so healthy and so satisfying.
02:52 And they keep you full for longer
02:53 because of the oats in them.
02:55 - Yeah, I love it.
02:56 Okay, what's there on the end?
02:58 - Okay, here on the end, we have overnight oats.
03:02 I did the peanut butter overnight oats
03:05 since we're celebrating
03:06 National Peanut Butter Lovers Day.
03:07 But you can make these a lot of different ways.
03:10 As you can see, I packed raspberries on top.
03:13 And overnight oats are a great way to make them.
03:16 Overnight oats are awesome
03:17 because they're packed with fiber, protein, and antioxidants.
03:21 So this is a great nutrient-dense breakfast.
03:24 I love this.
03:25 - And I love that too, it's very easy to do.
03:27 So, I mean, what a great way to celebrate,
03:30 you know, National Peanut Butter Day
03:32 than with some of these great treats and stuff.
03:33 And let's get to remind people
03:35 why this is great to have in your diet.
03:37 - Yeah, so peanut butter is just a great source,
03:41 like I said, of protein,
03:43 a great source of plant-based protein,
03:45 super high in healthy fats like the oleic acid
03:48 and omega-6 fatty acid,
03:50 again, helping you maintain that good cholesterol
03:52 and blood pressure.
03:54 And it's just easy.
03:56 It's easy, it's enjoyable, and people just love it.
03:59 So I love to recommend this to people
04:01 who are trying to get more protein
04:02 and healthy fats in their diet.
04:04 - I like it.
04:05 And then of course, adding the dates
04:06 that you can pick up at Sprouts, very important.
04:09 And there goes your, kind of like your peanut butter
04:11 and jelly in a way, and a different taste.
04:13 And it's good for you.
04:14 - Yes, yes, exactly.
04:17 - Brooks, thank you very much for joining us.
04:18 Where can people find more information?
04:20 - So people can find more information at my Instagram,
04:24 @brookbairdrdn.
04:26 And if you are still curious about natural lights,
04:29 they have an Instagram account as well.
04:30 Go ahead and follow them.
04:32 They have so many fun recipes featuring their dates.
04:36 And then I'll post this recipe as well on my Instagram
04:39 so you can go and make this and try it this week.
04:42 - Perfect.
04:43 Brooks, thank you very much for joining us this morning.
04:46 - Well, thank you for having me.
04:48 This is fun.
04:49 I appreciate it.
