00:00 This year, Mothering Sunday falls on March 10th. Given the opportunity to celebrate the
00:06 caregiver in your life, you might be wondering to yourself what special things are on offer
00:11 in the city. But will you be saying Mother's Day to your mum or your mam?
00:16 We say mum.
00:18 Yeah, we say mum. That's just us.
00:20 Mam. Definitely mam.
00:22 Mam.
00:23 It's always been mam for me anyway.
00:24 It's mam for me.
00:25 It's mam. And it's always going to be mam. As long as she's there.
00:26 As long as you're in the north of England. If you go past Birmingham, it's probably
00:33 mum. But up here, definitely mam.
00:36 A trip for afternoon tea always seems a springy staple for this time of year. Newcastle's
00:41 Prohibition Cabaret Bar is holding its own temperance tea party. From 2pm to 5pm on March
00:47 10th, you can expect to be in for some toe tapping, scone scoffing and foot flailing,
00:52 all whilst being serenaded by vintage singer and dancer Hilde Harland.
00:58 Alternatively, if you want a wine dine and look at Newcastle's Skyline, 360, which
01:02 is located in Hadrian's Tower on Rutherford Street, also offers an afternoon tea. Boasting
01:08 an elegant selection of sandwiches and cakes, your mother might be a fan if she's into
01:12 beautiful views with her cuppa.
01:14 If sweets aren't up your mam's street, then she might prefer a traditional Sunday
01:18 dinner. In this case, you have a couple of options. On the quayside sits Babucho. This
01:24 smart monochromatic brasserie bar boasts a three-course Sunday roast. You can sit in
01:30 the luxury bar, or if you prefer to eat in the comfort of your own home, they also offer
01:35 a take-away click and collect service.
01:38 Another popular one for Sunday lunch is Blackfriars. You can find this hidden hotspot on Friars
01:43 Street. Located in a former 13th century refectory and believed to be the oldest dining room
01:50 in the UK, here you can expect a hearty roast with a range of Northumbrian meats.
01:56 I bought Jimmy's mum, we're taking her to Blackfriars next weekend.
01:59 Yeah, I'm going to take mine to the Torvay for Sunday lunch.
02:06 Spending the day with the kids and my mam as well.
02:10 We were planning to travel down to Birmingham, meet some family and friends and go to a nice
02:16 restaurant there for a bit. Probably stay there for the night and then come back.
02:20 Maybe your mam would fancy a tipple or two. In this case, Slug & Lettuce is offering some
02:25 treats to spoil your mam with this Mother's Day. You can get a little bit tipsy with their
02:29 bubbles and bites option, or go all out with a boozy bottomless brunch.
02:34 Or if you fancy a bit of an activity, the Hancock Museum has a paint and sip tote painting
02:40 workshop on offer. Held on the 9th March, you can unleash your inner artist whilst sipping
02:46 on complimentary Prosecco.
02:47 Under 18s are welcome at this one, and there will be soft drinks available if you decide
02:52 that you don't want a tipple.
02:55 With a range of activities on offer across the city, your mam or mum is set to be spoiled
02:59 this Mother's Day.
