00:00 Hello there, good evening, welcome to your latest Met Office update. It's going to be
00:04 staying cold through the weekend across the UK but there will be some drier and
00:08 brighter weather on the way for Sunday. For the time being though we've got low
00:12 pressure still in charge, it's the same low pressure we've had all through today
00:15 and that'll be sticking with us through Saturday as well. These occluded fronts
00:19 wrapped around it as well will be bringing the focus for any of the
00:22 heaviest of the rain through tonight and into Saturday. A band will push into
00:25 southern areas of Scotland and then northern areas of Scotland later on
00:28 tonight bringing a spell of snow to the high ground here. Then we'll see another
00:33 area of rain but if it does turn quite persistent in we'll turn to snow at
00:37 slightly lower levels across southern counties as well as parts of the
00:41 Midlands throughout Saturday morning. But for many areas is going to be a cloudy
00:45 and cold night. In any clear skies particularly for western areas of
00:49 Scotland, some areas of Wales as well we could be down as low as -5 by Saturday
00:54 morning but many areas seeing a risk of some icy stretches on any wet surfaces
00:59 to start on Saturday. The temperatures will pick up quite quickly on Saturday
01:03 so any snow will quickly start to melt and any ice will also start to melt but
01:08 it'll still be a cold feel throughout the day particularly if you're exposed
01:11 to the wind across parts of Northern Ireland, western areas of Scotland as
01:15 well as parts of the southwest seeing quite a cold wind throughout the day.
01:19 That area of more persistent rain and sleet and that rain and hill snow will
01:24 push into more northern areas of England throughout Saturday afternoon so it will
01:27 turn a bit drier across the south but there's still a risk of some quite heavy
01:31 showers that could see that you could see some hail in too. So quite an
01:35 unsettled day to come on Saturday and as I said a fairly cold feel particularly
01:40 in the wind. That area of rain and sleet and snow will push further north into
01:45 eastern areas of Scotland throughout Saturday night. Further south it will
01:48 turn much drier because he's mist and fog developing as well as quite a
01:52 widespread frost by Sunday morning so it's going to be another very cold start
01:56 to the day but more of the country will see a drier start and a drier day in
02:00 fact through Sunday. So it will be a cold start lows of around -7
02:05 potentially across inland areas and some sheltered glens of Scotland as well. And
02:10 many areas will see a dry and much brighter day than Saturday on Sunday.
02:15 There are still going to be a few showers particularly across western
02:18 coasts through the day. You could also see some of this drizzly rain clip the
02:21 east coast through the afternoon but as I said by and large it's going to be a
02:25 dry and fairly bright day. It's not going to be water wall sunshine at all but
02:29 it's going to be a much brighter day than we've seen lately. And in the
02:32 sunshine we'll start to feel fairly pleasant. We are now into spring so highs
02:36 of 9 or 10 degrees in the south or 7 or 8 in the north with light winds it
02:40 should feel fairly pleasant. It does stay cold into the start of next week with a
02:44 sharp frost expected however it does look like it'll start to warm up from
02:48 midweek onwards. See you later.
