00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced that the next few days,
00:04 the decision will be made on whether to increase the premium rate of PhilHealth.
00:09 According to the President, if the benefit is good, the premium should be increased.
00:15 But if not, it should not be continued.
00:18 Alan Francisco is back.
00:20 The government is still studying how to increase the premium rate of PhilHealth by 5%.
00:28 This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said in a interview before he left for Australia.
00:33 It's under review.
00:34 What we are trying to determine is that if we are going to increase the contribution from 4% to 5%,
00:41 what should we do?
00:43 It's really a cost-benefit analysis.
00:46 The President admitted that PhilHealth is giving more services to its members.
00:52 This includes the support to those who are on dialysis where it is given three times a week or equivalent to full weekly coverage.
01:01 The health insurer also increased the coverage for those with case Z conditions like cancer.
01:07 PhilHealth has been expanding its services and trying to reach more people and trying to engage more people.
01:15 So if there is a benefit, if we can justify the increase, then we'll do it.
01:20 But if we cannot, we won't.
01:22 It's that simple. It's just a very straight forward cost-benefit analysis.
01:28 According to the Universal Health Care Act, it is mandated to increase the PhilHealth contribution rate from 0.5% every year since 2021
01:37 and to continue until it reaches 5% from 2024 to 2025.
01:43 The President is also suspending the increase of the ceiling and premium rate for 2023.
01:49 Meanwhile, President Marcos again defended the defense of the sovereignty of the country in the West Philippine Sea.
01:55 In the middle of this, there is an increasing number of electronic communications jamming activities against Philippine ships in the West Philippine Sea.
02:03 It's worrisome because there are two elements to that.
02:07 One is that before, it was only the Coast Guard of China that moved in our area.
02:16 Now, there's the Navy and fishing boats.
02:20 So the situation is changing.
02:24 But it's clear to us, we just watch of course what everybody is doing.
02:32 But really for us, we will continue. We just defend our maritime territory.
02:39 We continue to support all of our fishermen or fisherfolk who make their living from these fishing grounds.
02:50 We will continue to help them.
02:54 Alan Francisco for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
