Maks Chmerkovskiy Says Brother Val’s 'Massive' Nerve Impingement Meant He Couldn't Hold Son

00:00 I know Val posted a video recently about a neck injury that he had last year.

00:05 I guess nobody knew about it.

00:07 So how is he, I mean, we see that he's feeling good now, but was that a scary moment for

00:10 your family?

00:11 I mean, if anybody really dwelled into like what he's actually posted, we're also not

00:17 the type to like, "Hey, look at me, look what I'm going through," you know?

00:22 Especially while there's war going on and people that we know are going through it for

00:28 real.

00:29 But Val did have a massive situation where right around the time when Rome was born,

00:36 he had a really serious neck impingement that stemmed from his previous season and seasons

00:43 prior to where it was just go, go, go and no rehab.

00:47 And you kind of like go on injured and whiplashed, but kind of like on the back burner because

00:53 we're trying to win here.

00:56 And yeah, after Gabby season, she was also a little taller, so he had to scale.

01:03 Anyway, he had a nerve impingement that completely shut down one of his arms.

01:08 And so he lost feeling in his arms.

01:10 He lost all strength in his arm.

01:13 And this is now he has a newborn that he can't hold.

01:17 Forget the dance part of it.

01:19 It was just a devastatingly, sort of shockingly terrifying moment.

01:25 He was in the gym with me because we were getting ready for what ended up being Saber

01:30 After Hours, our stage show in Napa Valley that we put on during the summer.

01:35 And we were just kind of getting back in shape.

01:37 I stay in shape all the time.

01:39 Val loves to toggle back and forth.

01:41 He loves his Nutella.

01:42 But we were back in it and we're kind of working and then this happened.

01:49 Next thing you know, he's in surgery for neck fusion in three places.

01:57 And next thing you know, he can't move his neck.

01:59 And next thing you know, we're like, "So are you going to dance again?"

02:07 I mean, can we even say that?

02:10 So it was a brilliant situation that worked out for absolute best in his case.

02:17 Full doctors, he had a surgeon in Utah through Jenner's family relationships and connections.

02:23 Thank God for that.

02:25 So he's back and we're in rehearsal and we've worked the entire summer as if nothing ever
