00:00 Nicholas Galatine, hello mate.
00:02 How are you doing?
00:03 I'm doing very well, but I can't be doing half as well as you. It's been a mad 12 months
00:07 since the old Red, White and Royal Blue. How has life changed for you the last few months?
00:12 I mean, on the day to day, very, very little. But honestly, I think it's more just the amazing
00:19 doors that have opened, I think, because of the movie and the prospect of future work
00:26 is really, really exciting. So I'm just kind of bathing in it and enjoying it.
00:30 And the prospect of current work is pretty exciting as well. You're still less than a
00:35 stone's throw from Mr. Gamble, one of the greatest actresses of the generation. This
00:40 experience working with her on this brand new saucy little show, which we'll get onto,
00:45 I mean, that must have had your head spinning as an actor.
00:48 She's an icon. I grew up watching all of her movies. But I think you kind of have to forget
00:58 all of that when you're on set and build the chemistry between a mother and a son. I just
01:03 feel very lucky to be able to share the screen with her because you as an up and coming actor,
01:09 you're trying to absorb as much information as you possibly can. And she's so giving as
01:15 a performer and as a colleague. So yeah, it's great.
01:18 And there's been a real resurgence in recent years of kind of sexy period dramas. We had
01:23 The Great, we had Bridgerton. This has got, I'd say, a lot more bite to it than some that
01:27 we've seen. Who knew history was this much of a romp?
01:31 History is sexy. I mean, I think that is the elevator pitch for the entire project.
01:37 So tell us a little bit about this particular show. It's based on Mary and George. It's
01:42 this guy's relationship with his mother. How she's trying to kind of push the family forward,
01:47 push them into quite some dark territory.
01:49 Yeah. Well, so the family, the Villiers family, are kind of on the verge of oblivion, on the
01:54 verge of becoming impoverished. No sort of prospects. She sees potential in her son and
02:01 sends him off to France to become this renaissance man with the aim of coming back and seducing
02:07 the king of England, King James. And through that, they accrue all of this power and this
02:14 wealth and really help take their family from the verge of oblivion to basically being the
02:22 most powerful people outside of the king in the royal court. So very Machiavellian, lots
02:27 of intrigue along the way, lots of sex and fun. And yeah, it was such a blast to shoot.
02:32 What do you think your mum's going to think of it? Did it make you second guess your own
02:35 relationship with her?
02:36 My mum isn't probably as conniving as Mary is in this. She's a lot more giving with her
02:43 affection, thankfully. But no, there's a few scenes that the family in general probably
02:48 shouldn't watch. So yeah, we'll be watching it behind closed eyes.
02:52 And finally, doing this and Red, White and Royal Blue, has it given you an expensive
02:55 taste, in a way?
02:56 I've always had an expensive taste. I think, I mean, well, it's kind of the full perspective
03:01 in a way, because they don't come from much in the beginning. And I think the lesson is
03:07 very much, too much power can corrupt. And so it's kind of a bit of an Icarus story of
03:15 don't fly too close to the sun, otherwise you might get burnt.
03:19 A little bit of power is okay, though.
03:20 Yeah, this is a smidge.
03:22 A little bit. Congratulations, man. I'm really enjoying that. I'm sure other people are going
03:24 to do it as well. Have a great night.
03:25 Thank you. I appreciate you, mate.
